I believe the most underrated source of high runes is trav and glacial trail. Glacial trail might be the most underrated farming spots in the game. Also contain ghosts which have the highest rune drop % by any normal mob.

Farming travincial with a pally hammer is pretty fun. Great chances to drop hrs, you don't have to deal with magic immunity, you don't need a merc and you get more uniques then cows. When you have 75+% fcr, the council is always getting stun by the hammers and die quickly. You also have Vigor aura and Charge skill to get there quickly. And later on you can recycle your pally into an uber smither.

also, farm your keys for ubers. nihlathak is actually not bad and the HoP layout is very, very predictable, only 3 maps down to Vaught, and readable signs to Nihli in Vaught. nihli has great drop chances for Tal Armor and high runes, and you'll want those Keys of Destruction. plus, now that portal to Pindy doesn't vanish, Nihli is a fun spot.

The only bit I could really argue to here is that no matter what - p7-8 will be better for hr. You get alot more rolls that land on dropping an item over dropping nothing, which means more chances for those rolls to roll into the rune table

Acording to what I've read, /p7 is best for Ber while /p5 is best for Lo. Sur isn't as much useful, so I would make this a deciding factos for the /p setting chosen. I'm not doing LK runs often though, even though I'm on single player, it's too tedious. Superchests are nice for gems, jewels, charms and rares, however... and gold, as we have autopickup in D2R. Regarding Councils: The best fire protection is the Rising Sun amulet. When wearing it, you are basically immune to the hydras of the Councils, even at negative fire resists. In fact, the fire absorption will heal you! Also, once only the cold immune council is left, your cold sorc can put him in hit recovery with telekinesis.

What I tend to do on my blizzsorc for travincal council is going first where they are, let's say inside, then cast glacial spikes since freezing multiple/aoe'ing helps merc stay alive. Then after like 3 GS casts/when they have all spawned their hydras, I tp outside to line of sight the hydras, blizzard the ones that are there and spam GS until hydras start to spawn outside. Then tp back in to line of sight again etc etc. Essentially going back and forth depending on where the hydras are and this has been a very fast and efficient killing strategy for me. Not once died or taken alot of dmg since I started doing this. Try it out and I hope it works as well for you guys that it does for me!

Love your content! Been farming a HELL lot of travi myself, on a blizz sorc. The first 100+ runs i did like you: teleporting all over the place to keep my merc alive, while periodically dropping blizz. But i found out if you use a couple of sec to bait out all the hydras at 1 spot, and then tele so you 'line of sight' the hydras, u can just nuke all the council members super quick without your merc being in trouble (unless council has conviction aura). If i remember correct hydras dmg is like 400% to mercs compared to players. When i started doing this my runs became noticeable faster.

You can do the council safe (ish) although it takes longer, by luring them out. That way you're not fighting them all at once, maybe 2-3 at a time which is much easier.

Very good advice! The only thing I'd do differently in LK is using a TP after the last super chest instead of teleporting back to the waypoint. The waypoint in Act 3 is very close to the TP base, so you might save time (and definitely charges if not on a Sorc) to go to Act 4.

I found a ber in travincal yesterday morning. I’ve also found a sur in chaos in the morning. Seems mobs are more apt to drop in the morning ha ha. Traded the ber for 2x Lo to make grief and fort. Probs my best d2 day ever finding that ber and wearing Grief and fort by the end of it :)

Best base for grief is phase blade and damage of phase is 34 max Fort ED work with weapon damage and the bonus of grief apply after this step so you must put fort on your merc and use treachery or chain of honor if you drop another Ber 🤗 (I have work hard the subject because of a pot on ancient tunels with a Lo under 🥵, 38-400 god is sweet 😄)

Well I did like 6000 LK runs on p7 and I got lots of high runes, including Ber, Sur, Lo, etc. But I found out, trav on p3 to be even more effective. Usually for 400-500 runs, I find Sur, Jah or Lo. It takes me the same time as LK. These dudes also drop high amount of gg items too. But to kill them fast and survive, you have to be well geared, which is not a case for LK.

No kidding, like alright guys this is the best spot. The best spot: needing to run the shit 700+1500 times to even POTENTIALLY get a single drop The terrible drop rates in Diablo 2 remind me as why I got burnt out on it so quick. Basically forced to play a Sorc starting out because she is the best farmer, which you will need so you can have a chance at gearing your other characters in a semi quick manner, which still requires grinding your ass off and killing the same bosses or opening the same chests hundreds of times.

Wish I could go back in time and slap the dev in the back of the head but that's just me. I'll admit there's pros and cons to the drop system but the game feels stingy AF. 3,5,7 are the break points for Magic Find, Magic Find doesn't effect Runes, the LK has a bunch of patterns (basically prewritten specific drops) its like 65k+ or something. the amount of players determine what patterns are able to drop. The amount of players that has the most patterns that contain HR's is 3-4 that is why LK is specifically 3-4 for best odds for HR's (it is only for those SUPER CHEST) as the super chest are not effected by anything else other than the patterns / players (MF also doesn't work for the super chest)

For a blizz sorc it's easier to just do lk chest and clear Ancient Tunnels until you get an hr. Also try to lure a bunch of monsters in the lost city and clear them before entering the tunnels. You might get an hr if you keep killing monsters. You got to keep running 100's and 100's of runs to get an hr.

Just thought I'd mention that at 3:10 you mention some statistics for the Lower Kurast superchests noting you may be wrong, and you are but that's okay! The odds are even better than what you mentioned! There are about 84 known drop patterns for Pul to Ber runes out of 65,536 patterns. This means there is a 1:780 chance of getting one of these runes from a single superchest. But if you reroll your map as mentioned to get two sets of bonfire huts, that nets you 6 superchests in total per LK run, which nets you at about 1:130 chance of getting one of these runes each run. Note that these stats are for /players7 drops.... Number of drop patterns on players 7 for those who wanna know (update this in comments if anything has changed BTW): Ber: 3 Sur: 11 Lo: 2 Ohm: 5 Vex: 6 Gul: 11 Ist: 7 Mal: 15 Um: 10 Pul: 14 Also just saw this video is old news as it was posted last year in 2021, but screw it. Hope this comment helps folks. Also, don't be afraid to check poppables for runes as well. Chances are obviously lower than superchests, but from personal experience I got nearly half my high runes (Gul, Vex, Ohm, Sur, and yes, a Ber) from poppables so far. Just don't waste time each run going for every poppable on the map as you're better off starting a new run. Peace.

you should try switching to an Eth obedience + ias vamp gaze + treachery. He will kill so much faster due to the 6 frame jab, crushing blow and all the elemental dmg from venom and enchant that enemies wont hurt him. also he will have full elemental resist and 35% phys resist

Found my first ber farming council. As a fishymancer you can do this pretty well. I'll usually run pindle and build my army, then Trav wp. Use attract on one of the non unique council, dash for the durance stairs. Then go back up to Trav. This repositions your army to take out the council and keeps your Merc safer. Until stacked with infinity+andys I like obedience Eth thresher, treachery, and gaze or another LL helm. I've never found the cold damage too much of a problem for my CE chains. A harmony bow on switch for vigor aura and an insight iron golem are nice to have. Edit: if you have teleport from enigma you probably aren't as desperate for a ber. But I really like the cheap reposition from the stairs to durance.

I had a little existential crisis after my first 200 Pindle runs. It hit me, that this was already close to optimal play for most items, or running the ancient tunnels, Andy and Meph ad nauseum. This feeling of "that's it, there's very little reason to go elsewhere". Say what you want about D3 pre expansion, but at the very least they eventually equalized the drop chances across the entire game so you could farm anywhere. Luckily the feeling goes away with every decent drop, the skinner box works perfectly, even after 20 years.

The council members located at Mephisto’s Durance of hate level 3 has a chance to drop high runes as well. They are also easier to kill as they are less frequently cold immune. My strategy is to kill Mephisto then teleport around to kill all the council members. It is not true that Jah runes and above can only drop from act 4 onwards Debrunski has a video where he got Jah runes from Act 3 Durance of Hate council members. I got my Zod rune in Ancient Tunnels.

If you have 1:40 000 chance to drop a HR from chest, then 6 chests wont make it ~1:10 000. Math doesnt work like that. It doesnt matter how many chests you have, it'll always be 1:40 000. Just more of those chances.

Now lets consider two chests. The correct way to calculate the probability to not get a drop is (999/1000) x (999/1000). The chance to get a at least one drop from the two chests are 1 - (999/1000) x (999/1000) = 0.001999 = 0.002 Using the "add-method" of small probabilitets we get that 1/1000 + 1/1000 = 0.002 As you can see for small probabilities this is a correct estimation.

It's funny, you're right, math doesn't work like that, but it's actually better. 1-(39999/40000)^6 = 1/6667 So your chances in finding a 1:40000 item in any one of 6 chests is 1:6667

In reallity to understand how chances work in games like Diablo you need to understand the difference between open and closed chances. A closed limit chance means that you are guaranteed a loot in every 100 runs. So if Mephisto drops 10 items with 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10% chance means that in 100 runs you are guaranteed 1 of item 1 , 2 of item 2 ..... and 10 of item 10. On the other hand if chances are open you are not guaranteed anything at all. This means that you might drop a 10% item in 10.000 runs or even 0 or even 50. The chances are a metric used to show you a rough estimate based on other people's findings. In such games you play and pray. Same works for WoW. Some people farmed for thunderfury since its release on the same character and found 0 or 1 pieces.

You’re way off on the numbers for lower kurast. You need to run players 7-8 and you will find a HR about every 600-700 runs. Dbunski did 10,000 lower kurast runs and that was his results. 10,000 runs is enough runs to show the drop rate.

@@fartdonkey8290 Just don't play with the goal of finding high runes, or any other good drop, unless you're willing to waste your life away or cheat (e.g. buying them or using mods). The payout:effort ratio just won't be there given the limited time you have. Some things are more important. My arbitrary goal when I picked up D2 recently (not D2R; I'm playing oldschool offline with plugy) is just to finish hell difficulty with every class. I did a bit of Mephisto mf'ing with a sorceress to get some uniques, and while playing through Hell with 6 classes I haven't gotten anything higher than a Gul rune. But it's fine because I haven't needed any to finish the game yet, and I only have barbarian left at this point.

Instead I had to opt for a less powerful hybrid setup to wrap up Hell on the Sorceress (Lightning + Frozen Orb), and get some decent gear to swap to for lightning immunes on my Amazon (a lucky Thundergod's Vigor drop also helped).

Started doing pit runs last night. Mostly garbage gear on. IK helm with 2 p topazes and exceptional upgraded Bonesnap. Had a SUR drop from a skelly in front of the entrance at the start of the run. Did about 5 or 6 runs. Garbage drops mostly.

3/4 is the worst to do it on if your looking for Ber/sur you want to roll players 7 players 3/4 you are gunning for a Lo rune with (8 patterns). There are 3 chest per bonfire.

Helpful video. Still, I don't get it: statistically speaking if you count 1min/run (incl load times), you'd still spent 22 days x8h with nothing else to get that 1 rune. How can people afford spending (and not getting bored) 1 or several months of pure repetitive farming? Crazier still: How can people do such in ladder?

This is only efficient if you can kill them all in under 1 min using a char specifically designed to killing them. Like a posion necro or a hammerdin. Just jump in cast skill all die reload. 90% of the time at least one of them will be immune to cold so its not a good idea. But anyway the best way to find runes is to kill mass amounts of enemies like at cows.

Problem with cows on battlenet/online density is so low when play solo and multiplayer all other people with steal your loot

The best way to find runes is to pick the area with the highest drop chance that you are most efficient killing. If you play a hammerding, who is average at clearing density areas like cows but apsolute king in killing boss packs, then travincal on the long run will average you more high runes. To make it simple, lets say each travincal minion/boss has 20% chance to drop a high rune and a cow has 1% for a high rune. Travincal has say 10 members and cow level has 400. This means that on average, every travincal run will give you 2 high runes and every cow run will net you 4. This doesnt mean cow lvl is better for runes. Lets say a player can clear travincal in 1 minute and cow lvl in 3 minutes. This means that on average, for every 3 minutes he spends on farming, Travincal will net him 6 runes and cows will net him 4. For this specific player (class/gear) its more efficient to farm travincal.

Fwiw, unless you’re really well geared, the blizz sorc isn’t great at Trav. Poison Necro can do It with pretty mid gear and without Merc. Great place for the poison Necro to farm

Has anything with this changed with the Lower Kurast rune chest recently? When I do rune farming, I take my BlizzSorc on Hell to Countess, Lower Kurast, Travnical, save an exit, rinse and repeat. I used to always get some type of rune out of the Lower Kurast chest, however lately, no matter how many times I run it, no runes drop at all.

How are those drop chances calculated? Are they just data fed from players? Because if so I wonder if the monsters with "higher" chances like the council aren't just because there's more people farming them and better data. I've gotten stuff like mal and lem from random monsters but generally I see that players skip most of the enemies and focus on bosses or unique bosses.

A very old but useful place I loved faming in the pasted, you would not believe what kinds of things dropped there . I did the same trick to get two spawned super chest buildings and farmed the crap out of it every chance I had.

On my Mercenary I use an Act 2 Jab | Holy Freeze with "Obedience" (Eth Cryptic Axe base), "Fortitude" and "Andariel's Visage". He does over 7K damage and he'll only die if he gets crowded or stuck in a huge Mob bombarding him. I cannot overstate how helpful Holy Freeze is for Mob Control, especially with my Hammerdin. My .02 cents.

Lol. This video got me to whip out my level 92 single player hardcore barbarian I've played on and off for over seven years now. No joke at all when I say this but in my first four runs of LK an Ohm and a Lo rune dropped. You can imagine my surprise. I'm sure the drop gods will now make sure that I find nothing the next seven thousand runs.

The super chests have never given me anything above a TAL rune, but the random chests and corpses have given me 2 MAL, 1 IST, and 1 OHM rune since D2R release. From my 20+ years of playing this game it just comes down to dumb luck when these things will drop if ever. The drop rates for items in this game need to be modernized since it's not 100% true RNG.

A lot of times, I find items that aren’t from the normal farming spots. I was in LK and found a LO and a VEX but they were from random basket and a random corpse. This happened a couple days from each other.

dwarf star is also good with max fire rez you can just stand in the hydra's and face tank them. i do this with a hammerdin 45sec to 1min runs the only thing i need to watch for is a conviction aura and kill him first.

certain places definitely have better chances at what you're looking for, but dont forget to have fun! i found a Ber rune in hell cows just because i got sick of running andy/meph. switch it up so it doesnt get stale, and you may find things you can trade for what you want :) gl all!
