About the part when you broke the ship and the nails sank to the bottom: if you had been unable to pick them up by swimming over them, you could try jumping from the shore and seeing if when you sank you could reach them. Happened to me. The taller the jump, the deeper you sink, so the higher the chances are that you'll be able to pick things up from the bottom.

Or you can build up the bottom withe the hoe, raise land option

I agree, having to wait to play to the halfway through ashlands to transfer metal through portals is ridiculous. I get the game is suppose to be difficult in single player, but the amount of time it takes having to transfer a certain weight of ingots takes so long, and to wait past mistlands is crazy. They should have updated it to where stone portals can be build-able from either mountains or plains biome. If swamp wasn't so easy to get to on the base game without any alteration of settings, I'd say midway of swamps just make mats to make a stone portal higher because of high much iron you can get from a single sunken crypt. Hope they change this in the future, I hate having to alter game settings to make it a more enjoyable experience. Want to make it more vanilla, then allow transport of mats based on what boss you've beaten, having to spend time to get tin and copper after beating the 2nd boss to make the forge iron updates is very annoying and time consuming. The game takes a long time to complete even as a "incomplete" game when starting a new character. I don't want to download mods to completely cheese the game, but I still want a better experience, and for god sake please increase the spawn rate of turnips in the swamps.. This is my current dilemma on my ashlands playthrough, takes me several swamp biomes to find a single wild turnip plant. Had this problem on my last 2 playthroughs too. I should be able to find turnips when exploring at least 1 large swamp biome.

I'm doing something similar, I started a new world, but I'm bringing my old character over. I also turned off build costs, portal restrictions, and raids. I still have to discover materials and such before I can build something, have to do the same scaffolding, etc. However, I already invested the time in previous worlds farming all of the materials to build my structures and hauling them across the world by boat. I'm not doing it again, I just don't have the time to invest. I see this more as a transplant of my previous progress into a working (proper biome generation) seed. I also just hate the raids, so they are gone also. There are plenty of other challenges that still remain and plenty of farming that needs to be done for weapons/armor/food, etc.

I actually love when games give you the ability for character progression separate from world progression. I’ve take. Tougher characters in a few games (Enshrouded was the most recent) into lower level or new worlds. I feel like it’s a great kick-start to a new game. Especially in this sort of case. Good compromise.

problem with the compromise is your character is so powerful it makes everything trivial, which is pretty underwhelming for a survival game

I personally decided for myself if i start a new world, i take all resources i need from previous worlds. I collected them, spent a lot of time, never used any cheats, so why not to use them.

maybe because it's not really a new game if you take a character that has all of your progression and makes 90% of the game trivial due to your food, armor and weapons. you still have to "do" everything, but why bother? its like wanting to play a new game but not wanting to commit. may as well just use an old save

@@starbreeze7249 it's more like you want to progress with your character and to see all the new content and improvements, but you don't want to do things you already did, especially when it means to do a lot of routine stuff. Farming iron again - no thanks 😂

The compromise is what I plan to do. And when the final biome is released, I intend to delete all but one old worlds and start a full fresh game. The old world will be to have the option to have a builder character sample the materials, so I can freely build my way through that world. Without that, I tend to barely put down throwaway stuff until after I get iron and tar. After that point I never go back to make nice builds on the early locations. It just feels unsatisfying before and after.

My friend and i just tried to check the new stuff out, we were hitting 100% gpu load in the main menu, my gpu hit high 80 degree temps (i monitor this closely at all times just because i cant afford to replace my PC right now and i undervolt my gpu for lower temps, my 3080 doesnt usually go over 65 degrees), if you're reading this be very careful if you plan to test the new stuff.

I finally played this game.... And I loved the building system as much as I thought I would from watching your videos. ....I also ended up kinda hating the game for the reasons I thought I would from watching your boss videos. Like I played through to the mist lands with combat set to the easiest and enemy agro turned off.... And used the kill console command for the goblin boss because the dragon boss fight felt like it dragged on too long.... The bronze age was kinda the peak point for the game... After that it felt like everything was just find a dungeon... And really... After the first troll encounter I had to turn off enemy agro to keep the game in a playable state. Like the most fun the combat stuff was... Was when I had gear that's two bosses ahead of the world I'm visiting. Like I really wish they'd let you turn down the combat difficulty even further. Like I want the easiest combat difficulty to let me just go and kill the troll that made me turn down the difficulty with my bare hands in like one hit... And to basically take no damage even when not wearing any armor. I want to be able to tame bored and wolves and not have them immediately killed by a troll.... I want to be able to make progress in the game and with whatever I'm trying to do in the game and not have that all wrecked and have hours of effort just wiped.... rebuilding gets tedious and boring and I don't want to even bother trying after a while if it's just going to get wrecked. Like if I spend an hour mining ore only to have it lost because a sea serpent attacked... Or my boat sinks for some reason.... Spending another hour or more finding and mining ore feels like a waste of effort. Like if I'm going to put that much effort into something I need something tangible afterwords. Like figuring out how to use curl in PHP means I can control my WeMo outlets with PHP. Overcoming programming challenges results in having a things that does stuff and works for years. Games need to make learning their mechanics and "getting good" actually feel enjoyable and rewarding.... And this game feels like it doesn't respect my time. And it feels like the devs don't know how to fix that.... The world modifiers and the fact they call out some "intended experience" really sounds like they failed to deliver an "intended experience" and don't know how to add difficulty options that actually work with the game's mechanics.

like i kinda wish i had a term for games that i want to play because i think they have or might have interesting base building.... that i end up hating because of combat that feels super clunky... (though maybe if you're really into it isn't as clunky as it feels) like i got starbound because i wanted to do base building stuff... but the mouse cursor aiming combat stuff was probably one of the combat systems i hate the most in any game i've ever played. like i don't like twin stick shooters... and mouse and keyboard for that sorta combat in a side scroller was by far the worst way to do this sort of combat. (and i'm sure if you liked the mechanic it probably feels super precise using the mouse to aim... but for me it was basically barely better than having the character just randomly aim wherever whenever) and it's like.... i want a building focus game... but these games end up being combat focused...
