I am only a boarder who rents a room. One of the biggest assets of the house is its outdoor patio and lawn. However, its lawn is overrun with dandelion weeds and looks very unkempt. My problem is, I developed a problem with balance and tend to fall down now and then. I really want to sit down while pulling the weeds, so I was planning on buying a Flexrake weed puller from Amazon which happens to look just like the last weed puller Yuri tested and counted it the best of the handheld tools. Amazon's price is $15.51, and since it seemed to do well in his test, I will feel confident at buying it. I am glad I took the small amount of time to watch your video. Thank you for putting out the energy to film you fulling testing quite a number of different weed pullers. It should enable quite a few viewers with lawns in need of their help choose the one best suited for the job.

Weed removal actually has a function of aerating the lawn. Some weeds like dandelions grow in places where soil is compacted so if you don't like them, then removing them and allowing time to fill in the spot will allow the soil to loosen up. Me, I like dandelions because they are liked by pollinators.

I have the green one (mine is black) and I love it. To get a deep tap, you twist more often - three or four times around - using the tap to loosen itself before pulling it up. You twist it like a piece of rope all the way down. Only one twist, and you just break the main stem, leaving the rest underground, so you didn't really give it a chance. They all leave fragments of taproot, but it doesn't matter because it takes time for the dandelion to recover and make it back to the surface because the crown is destroyed. The same model with a spade makes a bigger hole than this simple design. Exposed soil accepts new weed seeds, so the smaller the better. If missed, the divot can be easily filled just by snapping release of grass plug back in the hole. Best results after a rain or sprinkler when the ground is soft. Toss the weeds into water instead of compost. Seeds sprout or go dormant in compost, and are spread back out. Weeds in water, water log seeds so they can't germinate, and takes the functional 'skin' off roots to they can't regenerate . The liquid is full of nitrogen and potassium and just smells like wet weeds.

The long forked hand tool is my weeder of choice. Works in nooks and crannies that others don't. And works with every type of weed. And it's far cheaper and easier to store. Dandylions are perhaps the easiest kind of weed to pull - try a lawn full of oxalis...
@PlanofBattle5 ай бұрын
Fantastic review. Writing from the UK I have used a German Wolf-Garten corkscrew on a long handle which you screw in and then out. It makes a big hole, tears up the soil and in my case through overuse gave me forearm tendinitis which ended my weeding for 6 months. Your distinguishing between large and small weed performance was also excellent.

I have the first one shown that is green. It's a weed hound and I think it works great and I would put it at the top of the list, not the bottom. I also don't twist it at all. Center it, push down with your foot, release it by pushing down the top knob. No bending over at all, no twisting, easy peasy. None of them gets the whole root most of the time, so I think it boils down to how big the hole it makes and this green one pulls very little extra dirt. Opinions differ I guess...

I have Grandpa’s Weeder and I don’t like it for two reasons. 1. It’s very slow because you need to manually remove the weed. It doesn’t have an ejection device. 2. More often than not the weed root breaks off near the surface, which means most of the root remains in the ground.

I have been using the weed hound for years, which is the green one with the nails. I have never twisted it, and it pulls up the entire tap root on the dandelions. I think your twisting it is breaking off the root, as the nails are tight around the root. Try it and see what happens.

You don't twist the green weed puller. All you're gonna do is break the tines. 😂 That's also why the root is breaking, you're twisting it off. I have one. It is a little bit of a pain, because you have to get it perfectly centered. But when you do, it's better than any of the others. The root comes out clean, with very little soil brought up with it, no hole left behind. One tip, pull up on the knob at the same time to keep a good grip on that root when you're pulling it out.
