Best Wrench Organizer ever, with French Cleat BONUS

I've been organizing the shop. This wrench rack or wrench organizer video shows what I've come up with regarding wrench storage, as well as socket, and other tool storage. Super easy build, and the bonus integration into the popular french cleat wall that just kind of popped into my head well after the design adds another level of utility. Wasn't sure how useful a wrench organizer would be, but after using these wrench racks over the last few months, I'm surprised at just how much I really like them. I have also come to realize a much greater benefit of using these modular tool holders. It practically forces you to put the tools away when your done. If you leave a tool on the bench or floor and glance at the wrench rack, its basically screaming at you to get that wrench or socket and make the rack full again. Since my racks are always in the open, on the side of my toolbox, or on my french cleat wall, they will constantly yell at me if they aren't full of tools. Never have to search for the 10 millimeter ever again! This truly has been a gamechanger in my shop. Simply had to share.
I've included some links to magnets like the ones I used in this video, and if you purchase any of these products from my links, I think I might actually make a penny or 2. Honestly though, there are so many to choose from, it doesn't really matter if you buy the ones I've linked or some other version. A magnet is a magnet, search for the best prices you can find. They really are great for so many things, only your lack of imagination can hold you back. Give it a try.

I like the approach and the explanation, thank you. My question is, do the tools get magnetized over time and start collecting all the metal dust in the shop?
@brett328
@brett328 3 күн бұрын
Havent had that issue. If I had a metal lathe or something like that maybe it would be different. Tools have been in these holders a couple years now, not showing any magnetic properties.

I love the modular part... (ur sockets too) because u put them away while using them. When ur done u wanna go, not stand there and go .... umm 1/2 in ... here... 14mm.... uummm... Saves time, if you got the wrong size... starting a project. Saves time, cleaning up... end project. *GENIUS* Keep up the vids, thank you

I like these! The issue I have with the socket organizer is the sockets are upside down. If you turn the drive side up, you find the socket you want, then just put your ratchet right into the hole, no removal needed. Right from holder to ratchet!

So now, 2 of my son's have bikes as well as a couple of their friends, and this roll around toolbox gets a lot action. This system has proven to keep things organized and better yet, tools always get put back where they belong. Never was the case before. Not tooting my own horn, it really is a game changer for me and my messy kids.

You mentioned sticking these to the car while working on said car. I can see being under the car, getting done with the project and forgetting the holder and all the tools stuck to the bottom of the vehicle. I have done something similar while using a pair of locking pliers clamped to a part of the car and forgetting them, (also done that with a magnetic bolt tray) finding them a year of more later all rusty. Totally my fault but mechanics will know this does happen. I do think this is a great project and I plan on making my own version, thanks for the tip's

This is the fastest and clearest access to tools that can still be used in different places. Disadvantage: Iron attracting metals and space. Everything has its pros and cons, I don't think you can change it much more. It stays in the top 10.

I did something like what you did in college when they had 4 drawer Snap-On toolboxes. I hated my wrenches unorganized. Everytime I picked it up or put it back they move around. So I took them and one scrap 2x4 my wrenches all stayed in one spot.

This completely eliminates the need for a tool box for wrenches. If you magnetically attached the tool carriers to a piece of sheet metal imagine the space you would save. Good use of the imagination. I've got a 2013 Electra Glide FLHTP for sale if anybody is interested. Retired so no need for a police bike anymore. Holla.

I have 3 of every size up to 3/4 and then 2 of each to one & 1/16th inch. I'm using screws in a piece of pallet wood and I'm looking for something a little nicer. I'm a heavy truck mechanic and am maxing out a 72 inch box so I don't have any spare room. If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated 🙂

There are lots of tools in the drawers believe me, wish I could put more on the outside. Things like Large wrenches, torque wrenches, soldering equipment, various odd shape pliers and snips, tap and die sets, gear pullers, impact guns, etc, etc ... I'll never have empty drawers, always some tools stored up on shelves for lack of drawer space.

Awesome wrench holder! Quick question: Why did you double the magnets and present the edge to the wrenches instead of using a single magnet flat? Would that have made the pull too great and hard to remove the wrenches?
@brett328
@brett328 Жыл бұрын
Doubling the magnets seemed like a good way to strengthen their hold on the wrenches. Just seemed like the way to do it. No reason you couldn't try it in the other orientation. And I wouldn't worry about the magnetic attraction being to great, my worry was the exact opposite.

For those of us that can't measure, and couldn't tell a table saw from a tabletop.... Do you make these for sale? Say if a person sent you a wrench kit, and you returned a holder? I looked on Etsy for a woodworker, no luck.

I appreciate the offer, haven't really considered that. But honestly I dont think I could make them and sell them at a price that would make my time worth while, AND at a price that people would be willing to pay. This is more of a hobbyist type or DIY type project that I feel is worthwhile for individuals who spend a lot of time in the workshop.
