Guys, we get RF whenever I try to connect a long wire. I found the filter first and then your video confirmed what I thought would be a fix. In our case, we would plug the filter into the soundboard.

Isn't this just connecting the shielding to pin 1 on the XLR connector, or is there more trickery going on?

Good to know that filter exists - I may need it sometime! For context, I'd like to understand which mixer output connection you're using to send broadcast audio to the Scarlet audio interface. Is it balanced ot unbalanced sent though a DI box or directly sent? It looks like it is a microphone-level signal, based on the fact you're plugging it into the microphone XLR input of the Scarlet. If so, how did the output of your mixer get reduced to microphone level? Thanks if you can shed light on this for your viewers.

Hey! Thanks for the comment. That's a great question! We are planning on a video explaining all of our audio setup in more detail. In short I'm using an XLR balanced send. We have a SQ6 and are in somewhat of an in-between stage right now after relocating our video equipment. I definitely want to rethink the audio interface we are using and get another balanced mix ran over so that we're not just running mono. You have any suggestions? What are you using?

@@RevisionMedia I have used the AES/EBU output from the board, which is essentially the same digital format as S/PDIF as found on CD and DVD players. The advantages to keeping the signal in the digital domain is to avoid the possible issues of RF interference, and/or clipping the pre-amps on the audio interface. The higher end Scarlett (8i6 and up) models have an S/PDIF input, which can be adapted to accept AES/EBU with a $40 transformer. (If using a fully analog connection, I'd rather use an audio interface having a balanced line-level input that can accept up to +18dBu, which can then be driven with a pretty strong signal and doesn't depend on having an input gain knob correctly adjusted.)
