What made this song hit so hard was because I thought littlefoot was *ACTUALLY* going to leave. We've had obvious fake outs with someone of the gang thinking about leaving the group, but we never took it seriously... but THIS? THIS?? It was as convincing as it could get. Littlefoot leaving the group was being built up BIG TIME the entire movie and unlike all other times, when a friend thought about leaving, this time got a whole freaking SONG. And not just any song, the LAST song in the movie. To top it all off, Land Before Time 10 was hinted at being the final movie in the series by the producers (Since Littlefoot's story would come full circle: having lost his mother in the first movie and meeting his father in the final). Not to mention LBT isn't scared to tackle tough issues for kids to learn life lessons, meaning they wouldn't be worried about the ending being too sad for Kids to handle. When I was watching this song as a kid, I honestly thought "Oh My God... This is actually happening. LITTLEFOOT is the one who ends up leaving the gang??"

I have a very abuse stepmother. I have three half-siblings who are her kids, they are all under 5. I never said anything to my mom about the abuse because I was afraid if I did I would never see my half-siblings ever again, so I kept it a secret. Until finally I couldn't take it anymore and I opened up to my mom and like any good mother she had me live with her full time, but we did not call social services because we didn't want their family to get broken up. After I left my dad's house, my biggest fear came true. I haven't seen my little siblings for over a year now because my stepmom left the country with them, most likely because she was afraid we would charge her with child abuse. Every time I listen to this song it makes me think of them. Cara, Lucien and Evan, I hope you know how much I still love you and that I will never stop loving you. Ever. No matter where you will go, when you reach your journeys end.

This song hits me hard because in the seventh grade like Littlefoot I had to move away from the only home I ever knew. Sadly now a sophomore in high school unlike Littlefoot I am no longer best friends with one of the friends I had to say goodbye to now I blame myself for allowing that friendship to be destroyed I’m lucky to have a new best friend but it just doesn’t feel right ever since August when we last fought I haven’t been myself because of cutting ties with that friend. If I could tell my child self anything it would be to learning from these movies and the mlp friendship is magic show if I had I might still have my friend I don’t know

This song always makes me cry because I think of all the friends I had growing up all the way through high school, and how we all said we would stay best friends forever. And like everyone, that didn't happen, and we just naturally stopped talking because our own lives were very different from each others and we drifted so far apart we stopped being friends. But the memories will always last. This also makes me think of my childhood in general though. I had lots of people I loved die, and it was difficult getting over it, and still is. And when I hear this song, I just relive all the memories with them, my siblings, and friends. All the different memories that have made me who I am today. The message being, even if you stop being friends now, you'll always be friends in your memories (unless there was a bad reason for being friends lol)

After rewatching all 10 films, I know there's more but idc the first 10 are all that's canon to me. But anyways, a part of me thinks that Littlefoot should've left with his dad. And that 10 should've been the end of the series. It would've shown kids that yes, friends do sometimes leave to go on a different path and there's nothing you can do about it but show love and support. That's life, but it's the love and memories that you hold onto that keep your friendships alive. If this had been the ending, as well as the end of the entire series, it would've been more impactful and been a very risky but very good message for kids.

This is a situation where I think both answers are correct. Little foot leaving and land before time ending would have been absolutely perfect here. If that was their intention they could have made the lines about friends in the dad song less antagonistic to better fit the story. (Because relistening to those lines is incredibly out of character for little foot for what he’s been through) and it would have been beautiful. On the other hand, littlfoot spent a very little amount of time time with his dad when you think about it, and only really talked to shorty in the rest of the heard. Taking a young child away from their social group is really stressful on them, so if little foot left he would have been very quickly stressed in a situation that was more physically taxing and more dangerous than the life he had been living for a very long time(tho the danger isn’t too bad with his plot armor. So generally I agree with you. My Headcannon goes like this: every movie happens every year or year and a half or so, and they actually grow up, so that by the time the great migration happens, littlefoot is at least half as tall as brawn(aging dinos in human years because we never weren’t using human years) and mentally he’s about college age and goes to live with brawn. The next three movies(Wich I mostly like btw) are not cannon. But the series is. It doesn’t take place in the great valley though, instead I think a wandering here is a much better device for a series, and we get too meet new dinos and returning dinos often, and we return to the great valley every once in a while, where Sarah has taken voluntary charge of things. Also there should be arcs where they migrate with different herds for a bit to keep other characters around for a bit.

I know this song is about friends leaving to somewhere else but...i can’t help but relate this song to one of my best friends I have had for over 5 years who has been there for me through so much but I have never met him in person before (because he was in America and I’m in Australia), he was the greatest guy in the world and he passed away this year a day after his birthday at the age of 23...we were very close and he even told me that I was his one and only best friend..he believed in heaven and even though I don’t believe it... he’s still alive in my memories and we will always be best friends...

I love the Best of Friends song as well as Olivia Newton-Johns version. Even though it's different and it's an original theme song to this 10th movie but I can really imagine the characters singing "If we Hold on together" to Littlefoot because they is something inside this song that makes me think of the main theme from the LBT.
