What a fantastic character. The preening was priceless, add the lisp, it beckons tears to stream down the cheeks and then the one thing needed to have you off the sofa and rolling on the floor...the leap over the ropes into the stage. To top all that off some exciting, classy boxing. He seems like a nice man and a romantic with some soft edges that he's not afraid to show. All in all a pretty class act...I knew someone who was much like him -it's a small world in so many ways, isn't it?

Kaabbaaq.....you are right, and it was always cool to see two legendary American fighters going at it like Tyson, holyfield, lewis etc and our fighters were never quite good enough. But being such a large country you have more % of people to choose from and boxing at that level was big money in the us unlike the UK where its sort of looked down upon (until they win) and the backing isn't there, so they are normally blokes training part time and working a job.

The comment by Benn's promoter about Eubank pretending to be born with the 'silver spoon' was rather ignorant. Mr Eubank chose a character in a brutal sport to bring finesse and some form of uniqueness. To anyone who chooses to better themselves through their own way of education, be it speaking or reciting, shows character.

Say what you want about Eubank, he held himself better than Benn. Look at Benn now, a born again Christian. The man wouldnt dream of publicly stating he hated someone, he would probably hate himself for even thinking he had hate for another man. Granted Benn was an explosive fighter, the McClellan fight was one of the most profound displays of a fighting heart I have ever seen. Eubank was too smart to embrace feelings of hate. And at the time I was none too fond of Eubanks persona!
@robz870115 жыл бұрын
Brilliant. You just don't get feuds like this, I hate all this mutual respect between fighters. Your going to war, slate each other with words as it builds it up. They are actually wonderful together in this. Neither of them goes over top unlike some where it just gets embarrassing. But they come over well matched in the interview, neither of them seeming to come out on top, yet both having their moments. And they would actually make a great double act. They were both very different in the ring, their styles. And yet both their fights were magnificent in quality.

Benn is a gem I admire him as a fighter the best i've ever seen! ..But communication isnt his forte as one can see here..ppl may argue that its important to produce the goods in the ring which is what he does..but still one needs to be good with the verbal aspect too sensible talk ...Eubank here clearly schools both Benn and the other guy ..with his words spoken softly but conveyed his msg....the tongue pierces sharper than the spear or any punch for that matter..

@kez197915 жыл бұрын
You said he never fought in America (he started his pro career there, which was very unusual for an Englishman). BTW, I take your point that most of the best boxers are in America but both Eubank and Benn were amazing fighters. In their era, the sport wasn't as global as it is today, at least for English fighters, so a lot of them didn't travel. There was a big boxing scene in Britain then (as there is today).

Yanks are good at certain weights, Super Middle is not one of them. You say Brits (Most people from GB prefer to be called by the nation they are from and not the collective just so you know). The only SM fighter from America that was pure class was RJJ (a true legend) but you really shouldn't say fighters from our shores cannot hold a candle to your country or any other, pure foolishness.

Eubank really got under Benn´s skin. I dont think it was ever something personal for Eubank. He just tried to get the other guys worked up and hype the fights. If Benn had tried to methodically outbox and wear down Eubank he could have won. Instead he tried to KO him and Eubank had the much better chin. Back then it was strange to see how Benn´s punches couldnt do much damage to Eubank. But when Eubank connected with hard punches Benns knees were shaking.
