I’m starting my Beta Bionice ILet pump in a couple weeks. My endocrinologist just ordered it. After doing a lot of research I decided to get this particular pump. It is now a dual hormone pump. I don’t like carb counting so this is a no brainer. It takes about a week or two for the pump to learn your habits and automatically gives you the correct dose to keep you in the range. My current A1c is 10.4. My second choice would have been the Tandem Slim X2 but I’m glad I went with the iLet after researching. Will update this after three months of use.

Great video! Just found your channel and subscribed. As a dad of a young diabetic, the idea of not only not having to carb count for my daughter but one day her not having to spend the time doing it herself, is such a breath of fresh air. Keep the amazing content coming.

Oh my god, my jaw dropped when you said they’re working on introducing glucagon to the system! That is INSANE to me. We’ve heard about a “bionic pancreas” aka little to no input insulin pump/CGM closed loop system for decades now, and it is really cool to finally see some concrete tech being made. I’d love to get my hands on one next year. Thanks for the video, subbed!! 😄🫶💉🩸✨

I would definitely give this pump a try, especially if they get the glucagon to work with it this pump could be a game changer for sure it will have the other companies trying to catch up to this one. If they need someone else to try it, I would 47 years with this disease, and something like this comes out its a win for diabetes. Will be watching for your interview.

They were requiring new patients to take training before using the system. Apparently there's been issues of people trying to fool the system instead of letting it learn

WOW!! The Beta Bionics iLet Pump is an overwhelmingly exciting innovation in pump technology. I am, t-h-r-i-l-l-e-d with the prospect of being able to significantly reduce or eliminate having to carb-count! It is my greatest diabetes management challenge. Thanks Justin for sharing info about it.

Ask the CEO: 1. Any estimate on when the iceLet will be Medicare approved? 2. Any estimate on when pre-filled insulin pump cartridges will be available? 3. Catheter lengths available? 4. I race cars, and have seen a 150-unit drop in BG during a race (extreme amounts of adrenalin)...estimate on HOW LONG until we get the glucagon vials?

Any estimate on when pre-filled insulin pump cartridges will be available? Already avail. Fiasp is the 1 so far. they have refillable cart as well 3. Catheter lengths available? 23" so far 4. I race cars, and have seen a 150-unit drop in BG during a race (extreme amounts of adrenalin)...estimate on HOW LONG until we get the glucagon vials? This is a interesting one. Time will tell. GRAPE JUICE or a APPLE Grape Juice in your water bottle may help for now.....

I use Omnipod dash (with DIY Loop) and while not carb counting is intriguing, I just can’t fathom the idea of going back to tubes. Had tubed pumps for years (Medtronic and then Animas), and tubeless is WONDERFUL. I get great results with DIY loop, which enables me to be imperfect with my carb counting.

I would for sure use this pump, I’m currently on an older medtronic 640g which I use in manual mode as the medtronic cgm is inaccurate on me so I use the dexcom g6 ….. it will probably be years before it gets introduced or approved in Australia though as we are nearly always way behind in new tech.

Great video, Justin. I can't believe it's finally being approved. I've been excited about the possibility of bi-hormonal therapeutics for some time now. My fear is that if this platform launches with insulin only , it might get swallowed up by the big dogs of the industry or not taken seriously, like the case of Affrezza. Fingers crossed 🤞.

Question 1: is low blood sugar still a possibility if the pump adjust itself? if so, how does the user of the pump adjust the settings if applicable? Question 2: In the case of pump failure, how will this impact users who do not use set ratios or correction factors anymore?
@diabe_tech

Yes low blood sugars are always still possible, but occurs WAY LESS with closed loop systems like this. Not sure about your second question...

I’ve been a Type1 for 56 years. I use a Medtronic 670G pump and wear a Dexcom which does not talk to my pump. My pump uses batteries which I prefer. When you have a plug in one do you have to sit there for two hours while it charges? I hope Medtronic never changes to that. Also on the pump you’re talking about, how does it help people with gastroparesis? My pump has a setting which is called dual wave. It gives some insulin up front and the rest over an amount of time you set. Gastroparesis is delayed stomache emptying. How does this new pump deal with that?
@tylerblind07
@tylerblind07 Жыл бұрын
I use a Tandem t:slim, which has a rechargeable battery. The battery lasts a long time, so you can go days without even thinking about charging the battery. That said, I have some time every day where I'm on my computer, so when that time comes around, I just plug my pump in (which is also the time I upload my data to the app so I keep my doctor happy), and it charges up. Honestly the rechargeable battery is no more or less annoying than having to change out batteries. Actually, I don't have to buy batteries, so rechargeable is better in that way. And I'm not producing a bunch of electronic waste, so I like that better too.
@chrissyfoley7361
@chrissyfoley7361 Жыл бұрын
@@tylerblind07 thanks. With a battery your not stuck sitting for two hours. You just change it and go. What if your pump needs charged in the middle of the night? Or do you just charge it at a convenient time when you see it’s getting low? I still prefer batteries so you’re not stuck sitting for two hours while it charges.
@tylerblind07
@tylerblind07 Жыл бұрын
@@chrissyfoley7361 I could certainly understand your trepidation about it, but I will say that in the 2 or so years I've been using a rechargeable battery pump I've never once had an issue with inconvenient charging. I couldn't speak to this new pump of course, but I imagine the 2 hour measure might mean that's how long the pump takes to go from 0 to 100. The way I charge my pump, I am only ever going from a low of 45 to 50 percent up to 100. And it's unusual that I let it get that low to begin with. I would be surprised if there wasn't regular time in your day during which you could charge your pump, like when you take showers and prepare breakfast, etc. You could dose for your breakfast, take the pump off (plug it in), shower, make breakfast, and put the pump back on. That's a good chunk of time in which to charge the pump.
