one confusion i have : why is it called PBPs ( penicillin-binding proteins) when the cell wall structure is of bacteria. Why the bacterial cell wall structure is named with penicillin?

Bacteria k paas Vo normal protein hi hoti h jo h.. But during the drug discovery pencillin was found to bind on the specific site of protein and was named as PBP's.
