yes. it works like the one in the first two Zelda games except link is replaced with Samus. *EDIT:* and there is also a playtime counter that is in hours that is labeled as days. Nintendo couldn't have made a feature that simple any more confusing

Saving only wasn't possible in the western versions of Metroid. In Japan it was exclusively released for the Famicom Disk System, which had saving. It even had a Legend of Zelda style save menu with a sprite of a crouching Samus. There were no passwords in the Japanese version.

@1:47 Metroid 2 was not the first metroid game to have a save system. The original release of Metroid 1 which was in japan you could save. They just drop it when it went international to cut the cost of the battery
@UP877 жыл бұрын
MysticGamer The japanese Version didn't use a battery. It was on the Famicon disk system.
@TakaG7 жыл бұрын
The international system would have required a battery though. Hence the cut.
@UP877 жыл бұрын
But the video mentioned Metroid 2 as the first game in the series to have a save system. That's just incorrect.
@Guts_Brando6 жыл бұрын
UP87 Its correct, password is not the same as a save system.
@neovegaproductions6 жыл бұрын
Gattsu Brando The Famicom Disk release didn’t use passwords, it saved to disk, and had a three-file save screen just like LoZ. That’s what OP os referring to. And no battery is needed for disk saves, only ROM carts (which is why cart releases either used battery backup or passwords, the latter chosen for Metroid US).

If I may put in a request I would really like to see a video on Dinosaur Planet. You know, that Rare game that turned into StarFox Adventures on the GameCube? I’m really interested in the production of that game because of 2 big reasons. 1. Why it turned from it’s own thing into a StarFox game and 2. I just want to know what happened behind the scenes since it was last Rare game to ever be released on a Nintendo home console. Thank you for taking the time to read my comment.

Ooh shiny flashy cutscenes, a one hit kill parry that looks sweet but totally doesn't have to be used every *5 seconds* (despite the game encouraging it by making enemies tanks), whooshy whooshy low poly 3d environments, a rad 360 degree aim that requires you to stop dead in your tracks in a Metroid with more emphasis on twitchy reaction, soooo cool. Maybe I'm an old fart who's too busy noticing obvious things, but I remember when this fan base held the series to a higher standard and preferred methodical (yet speedrun-able) gameplay and substance in our Metroids.

The moral of Metroid is that technical limitations always lead to some of its best aspect. The lack of a crawl animation in Metroid I led to the Morph Ball power-up, and the lack of color in Metroid II led to the creation of the Varia Suit's design, Samus's most iconic suit. Enough so that it's the one she uses in the Smash Bros. series. And in the world would it be impossible to remake Metroid Fusion? That just sounds dumb. While I'd definitely love that, I'd love a remake of Super Metroid next, no contest. That would be too amazing for words. Wait-*spits out drink.* Ridley's in this game?! AND YOU HAD THE GALL TO SHOW IT WITHOUT A WARNING-

Metroid 2 didn't add the ability to crouch and shoot, it added the ability to just crouch in general. Also the original Metroid had saving, just not the American version. The Japanese version was on the Disk System and used the same save system as Zelda where you had to die/perform a specific input on Controller 2 to save.
