She’s actually trying her best and improving. As you can see here in the video, she is clearly getting a little bit better with her English proficiency because she mostly understands most simple things being said by Beth Behrs and Kelly Clarkson. How do I know this ? her reaction is natural and spontaneous (she even responded to one of Kelly’s questions with an “Oh..” instead of “あの”). No pause nor tilting her head over the translator. Her pronunciation of “excellent” no longer carries a heavy Japanese accent. At this point, she only really needs the translator’s help with conveying her formal statements in a timely and efficient manner and gathering more confidence to enunciate simply words more naturally. She’ll definitely get there (but it’ll take more years as long as she’s patient)

The questions are prepared in advance so she knows how to answer them, and although she understands some English, for the most part she can't speak it fluently, so that's why she has a translator with her.

Editing. When they're at the table to fold, you can see the translator speaking at ther same time as they're talking. Also, sometimes it's easier to understand than to speak. But, mostly, tv editing makes things awkward at times.

Speaking a language requires a different set of skills than understanding. It's a common issue for a lot of east Asians. Even though English is almost compulsory, they spend far more time on comprehension than they do actually speaking it. She is most likely not confident in her ability to speak English effectively on the spot.

There is another translator that is translating in their earpiece so it doesn't take up too much time. The male translator sitting next to Marie is translating what she is saying in real time.

The director of the show should know better!!! When you have people who have a hieght challange, then you stay away from that freakin wide shot that immediatly puts every one in comparison to the person standing next to him first and second, to the rest of the group ...hell I didnt go to cenimatography school and I know it...
