Been to see her in concert. She is one of the most honest performers. She has been through all kinds of shit, and has to fight her demons constantly. Not only is she a great performer, she is a great song writer, who never gives less than 110% when she performs. But more than this she is a great human being

Great reaction! Beth Hart HAS had her share of difficulties! She's the ultimate survivor! There is a documentary about Beth. You can find it on KZbin. A lot of the Blues is ad-lib but that doesn't mean time is spared on the arrangement and rehearsals. When you know a song backwards and forwards, and trust your fellow musicians, it gives an artist the freedom to improvise!

There is another live version of this song with different band mates, that is really hard core and earlier on in her career that gives you an idea of how far she has come physically as well as mentally . Thank God she made it else the world wouldn't have been blessed with what has come since. A great artist, one who deserves all the recognition she gets and should get!!! If you have a minute, check out this lesser viewed version, you'll be amazed. P. S. She is also a former Star Search contest winner!!!

Excellent comments at the first stoppage. Technical perfection often interferes with emotional depth, which is what drives the timeless performances. If you feel what you are singing, you are more likely to make the audience feel it as well.

Beth Hart was classically trained in music school for voice and cello when she was a teen, although she primarily plays piano on stage (and also guitar and bass). And she's not just a blues singer, she also sings rock, hard rock, soul and a little bit of jazz.

It actually takes a fair amount of courage to allow yourself the freedom to just be IN the moment with a song….follow wherever your soul takes you in that moment in time. Robert Plant is this way. And so is Beth Hart. Another very sensual performance by a female singer is Grace Potter covering Gold Dust Woman with Warren Haynes and the Gov’t Mule band. Darkly sensual.

Thank you so much for reacting to one of my suggestions after your last Beth Hart video. Beth is also classically trained since age 4. She started with the piano and later added cello and guitar. This entire concert is amazing. She also has some real rockin songs at this concert. Please react to "Immortal", "Broken & Ugly", "Get Your Shit Together", "I Don't Need No Doctor", "Whole Lotta Love", and at the piano "Mama", "Leave the Light On", "Monkey Back" all at Live at Paradiso! I believe I gave you other songs last time like Beth Hart "Caught out in the Rain" live at Royal Albert Hall, Beth Hart & Joe Bonamassa "Somethings Got a Hold On Me" live in Amsterdam. There are so many more but this is a great start. Love your reactions!! Please continue reacting to Beth.

I am so excited to so you react to Beth and how marveled you are of her as I was when I first discovered her. You need to see what an accomplished pianist she is as well, and react to the song (MAMA) from this very same show "Iive at Paradiso". Her voice is just as powerful but controlled as she was in this song, but her piano abilities are just as impressive. By the way she plays the Bass and guitar as well in her live shows.

Beth is not just a blues singer, she can rock the house. She and Joe Bonamassa did a version of Tina Turner's Nutbush and she just came out with a tribute album of Led Zeppelin songs. But whatever she is performing, she wears her emotions on her sleeve, so to speak, for all of the world to see and hear. You did a great reaction to both this song and her "I'd rather go blind", an Etta James cover. Like you mentioned at the end of this reaction, she must have lived through some things. That she did. She had a very tough childhood with an abusive father and then headed down the path of hard drugs and rehab. In fact, this concert was not long after one of her rehab stays. But through it all, she has had her musical talent. Long before there was such a thing as American Idol, there was a show called Star Search, which was a national competition. She won that show singing this song that she wrote on her own. I love her music because of the raw emotion that she can add to it and her precise control.
@ben-schulman
@ben-schulman 2 жыл бұрын
Her father wasn't "abusive" (in the usual way)---it's just that he divorced her mom and abandoned the family. (She had a great relationship with him up to about age 5). She's spent her whole life trying recapture the love of her father and getting into abusive relationships with other men along the way. When she sings "I'd Rather Go Blind" (not her song), she is thinking of her father. She wrote the song "Tell Her You Belong to Me" about her father. To me, he's seems like a real asshole, but she's had a very good relationship with him for the past 10 to 15 years so. But it is not correct to say he was (physically) abusive to her.

I fully understand the structure thing. Ad the lead guitarist in our band, I too was classically taught, and when im soloing I've got to know what I'm playing, and when or I freeze up, or resort to running a blues scale, and it can sound rather generic if i haven't worked through what I'm gonna play. I wish I had this level freedom. Our rhythm guitarist does some soloing on some songs, and he wasn't classically trained, so he has more freedom, and he'll hit some notes soloing off key, but the freedom makes it sound good even off key. I kinda get jealous sometimes of that freedom to just play you, and not the music. Loved this reaction!

This video is at least 15 years old. Maybe 18. I think it came out in 2004. Beth was a very different person back then. She was touring Europe after almost blowing her career in the US for all kinds of drug issues. She lost her recording contract. And the best decision she ever made was to get out of LA. The people of Europe were what she needed to turn herself around. Beth's Career will make a hell of a movie one day. She is the greatest performer that nobody knew for such a long time. I've been a fan of Beth all the way back when she won best female vocalist on the American talent show "Star Search" in 1996. She has a lot of amazing songs. My two favorite performances include, another one from live at the Paradiso, "Immortal." That is why women like Beth , Janis Joplin, Ann Peebles and Millie Jackson are so much better live than on their records. They give it their all . And as audience you can feel that . All that hurt , despair or anger or even the ecstasy of sex or dance it swipes you up and takes you to her inner self , her soul, After the concert everybody is completely satisfied . Band and audience . James Brown has that too . Seen him 3 times , same idea . Always great concerts , and that evening in Paradiso, on the Weteringschans in Amsterdam Beth Hart wrote musical history .I tried to get in that night .Couldn't , so disappointed, I cried ,I did . And since I saw clips of it on you tube I realized even more what I missed .Pure magic from a great performer and her band .

This is one of those performances that we have been lucky enough to witness on film. It's one I keep going back to, along with two Gary Moore clips (The Messiah Comes Again Live At Montreux & Red House Live At The Strat Pack Concert), Rush's Xanadu live from 1980, and Floyds Comfortably Numb from 1994. Love the reaction, and chuffed to see you're going down the rabbit hole of Beth. A perfect combination would have been Gary Moore performing with Beth live, as he played every single note from the heart. He sadly passed away in 2011 though. Joe's performances with Beth are excellent though. Happy viewing. If you like incredible solo's check out Gary some time, you will not be disappointed. :-)

Here's an exercise for you to try. Setup your phone (or camera) to record and then just ignore it. Then sing one of your favorite songs but don't think about your singing. Just imagine you are all alone in your room or in the shower and just sing what you feel. Don't make it karaoke or a rehearsed stage performance. Just sing what comes to you. Do this a few times. Then watch it back and see what you learn from the exercise. You may just find that it's just confidence in trusting your gut and feelings rather than structure.

Why the heck is there such a fixation on this one of Beth's show in 1st 2 showings of her stuff? She has so much depth and tons of other stuff to view also from intimate small settings to larger venues with her playing piano and or guitar and singing. This one is good but most people assu e she is high on drugs etc. Folks it is an act. And it is how she feels the music and such a people person. The girl she is singing to in crowd is her good friend....she was classically trained on piano

...because it's phenomenal and there's not another performance like it...right, once you're blown away by this, you find it's just the beginning. Not sure what you mean by "Folks it is an act"--this is NOT an act, this is just BH doing what she does and she innovates on the spot. The girl in the crowd is NOT a friend--she's a 17 year old fan, there with her family (her mom is the one taking pictures), and she's been to many BH concerts.

this concert was supposed to be MUCH smaller and it was her re-entry back into the business after her drug use caused her labels to drop her. She was clean for 18 months before the concert. The venue sold out the other place, kept selling tickets and rented this place....so her gratitude is genuine. Her guitarist is still worth her and I think is better than Bonomassa with her.

He is a good old friend, for sure, but musically miles away beneath JoBo.

COMMENT #1: I’m really liking your reactions (but metal is not my favorite genera). If you go back to my comment in your first BH reaction (I’d Rather Go Blind), I left a list of 17 Beth Hart Rock or Blues-Rock performances (from earlier in her career). Here’s another list of another 17 songs that are more recent and primarily and “singer-songwriter” type ballads and blues, soul, R&B, jazz (except, of course, the new album of LZ songs!): 2022 “A Tribute to Led Zeppelin” (released February 25, 2022-the studio recordings of all 9 songs, including two medleys, can be found on BethHart.com). 1) Live cell phone video of “Dancin’ Days” / “When The Levee Breaks” (medley) from the Warner Theater in Washington, DC (02/24/22): kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5KkmHV5Zbx5eNE STUDIO RECORDING: 2) Phenomenal version of the “The Rain Song”: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXrCnWCOgr-hr9U 3) Beth threads the needle here for “No Quarter / “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You” (medley): kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4DTkoCEiqimp6s 4) A fairly traditional arrangement but a killer version of “Black Dog”: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rn_KgqeGad-ea6c 2019 PLANET ROCK STUDIOS (4-song set; 20 minutes): kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2WYg2qMpLB8m7s This is a mind-blowing 4-song set Beth performs at Planet Rock studios to promote her recent album of original songs (“War in My Mind”) in 2019. It’s an eye-popping deep dive into her personality-both the songs themselves and her behavior and explanations between songs. 2018 ROYAL ALBERT HALL CONCERT in London: 1) “Caught Out in The Rain” (about an unhealthy relationship with a dangerous man) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqvHe5ltfdanqs0 2) "Leave The Light On" (about her turbulent childhood) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4XNaZ6Og6anq6c 3) “Sister Heroine” (about losing an older sister to AIDS) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4WakI2GfqaieZY 4) “Baddest Blues” (inspired by Billie Holiday & her mom) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnuwnGBvebmYZ9E BLUES (with Joe Bonamassa) 1) “I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know” (from the “Live at Amsterdam” concert in 2013) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIC0YWqci7t3gLM 2) “I’ll Take Care of You” (from Joe’s 2011 ‘Live at the Beacon Theatre’ concert in NYC) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXfTmaifgt10bas MORE INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCES 3) “Love Gangster” (Song she wrote about Leonard Cohen; this is how Beth Hart makes an entrance in Paris 2018) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHnEo4yMoJljiK8 4) “A Change is Gonna Come” (Sam Cooke cover from the Echoplex in LA in 2010) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5-sfWt3gLyFhLM 5) “Learning to Live” (With a full orchestra in 2007) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHeVnaJ4rdqrapo COMMENT #2: This whole concert from 2004 is just as epic. There are three terrific documentaries available on KZbin: (1) “The BH Story: From LA to Amsterdam” (kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXjOppWvhLhqoNk) covers her career to about 2018 (32 min). Another great one is “Beth Hart Documentary”(30 min plus 10 min song) which is about the legendary 2004 Paradiso Concert (this reaction here) and is part of the 2005 Paradiso DVD (kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3ermqaYeNekmsk). A third great profile & interview is a recent Giselle Fernandez LA Stories piece (2020) entitled “Beth Hart's Soulful Tale of Survival and Redemption”(22 min)”: spectrumnews1.com/ca/la-west/la-stories/2020/02/17/beth-hart-s-story-of-survival-and-redemption

@@corneliusantonius3108 oh man, mad respect for the "Nightwish Army"...what Beth needs is a "Beth Hart SUPPORT GROUP" chiming in from all parts of the globe! Thanks. (Yeah, she's so well-known in Eastern Europe that lots of young female singers routinely cover her songs).
