In 1998, I was in Borders Bookstore/CD's/DVD's just south of UCLA, where I had previously found the MAGIC of "Secret Garden" by composer/musician Rolf Lovland & violinist Fionula Sherry] whose's "Nocturne" became the winner of 1995 Eurovision Song Contest & the 1st instrumental track to take home top honors in "4" decades yet their most fameous song now recorded by thousands of artists, is "You Raise Me Up".....as a Black man, what forever blows me away is the INCREDIBLE gospel chorus led by Tracey Campbell-Nation, performed the middle eight, and the London Community Gospel Choir and Anúna provided backing vocals, ALL of witch has ZERO/NO EQUAL.....not eve Josh Grodan, etc.......and I have bought every one of their CD's since!! Back to Borders looking for another "Secret Garden"😢😢 type when I came across a Warner's CD, "Women & Songs" which featured Beth Nielsen Chapman & 9 other major headline female singers. What caught my eye were Emmylou Harris, Carly Simon & Joan Baez, so I bought it. At home given my very heavy-audiophile system, I dropped the CD into the player to hear the 1st track, Beth Nielsen Chapman's "Sand And Water" & before my 1st drink of Wild Turkey, I was in TEARS/TOTAL EMOTION because it was SO DROP-DEAD BEAUTIFUL & HEART STIRRING!! The stanza, "All alone I came into this world.......all alone I will someday die" given my now age of 84, is SO TRUE & blows me away among other wonderful stanzes in the song. I recently learned this was part of the soundtrack of "Loving Anabelle" which offered "2" alternate endings.......needless to say I vastly preferred the ending with Anabelle re-uniting with her lover. It's been 27 years since I 1ST heard this AMAZING song & it STILL VERY MUCH GET'S TO ME/MY SOUL!!

Hello Edward, Thank you very much for your impressive memories and commentary on the beautiful song by Beth Nielsen Chapman “Sand and Water”. I heard the song for the first time about 25 years ago when I listened to her CD of the same name. Like you, I was impressed and touched by the melody and lyrics of the song. I am now 65 years old and have been searching all my life for songs that touch my heart and soul. Because then music is more...it heals for a brief moment from everyday life and a world that is increasingly falling apart at the seams and gives you a good feeling. With this in mind, many greetings and a Merry Christmas from Germany. Albert PS: I would be happy if you would find other songs on my channel My Songs “50 Years Favorites” e.g. My Tips: (unfortunately for copyright reasons not on my channel but on You Tube) the song by Patrick Davis „If it`s Love Give up your Hate“ and one Song by Aimee Mann „Poor Judge“ from LP: “Mental Illness“
