ik the points on this show aren't real, but the scoring system on this game isn't set up right and i can't take it 😭 it should be: guess correctly and you get 200pts fool one person and you get 100pts fool two people and you get 200pts Otherwise the contestant who wrote the caption has 2x as many available points per round and can jump way ahead if they wrote multiple captions (as seen here w Beth)

Great point. The first time they ran this game, they had one caption from everyone, or maybe doubling up on one person. But yeah, if they want to do stuff like this where all three are from the same person, that's a good idea to adjust the scoring. If everyone guessed randomly, they'd have a 1/3rd chance of picking the actual author. But the author would have a 2/3rds chance of *not* being picked by a guesser. So indeed a 2:1 ratio is appropriate to represent how much better than random chance you did.

Soft G (as in gin or giraffe) is the "official" pronunciation, as decided by the guy who designed the file format. He was a fan of Jif peanut butter. But even knowing this, many people still prefer to pronounce it with a hard G in Graphic, which is what it stands for in the acronym. The GIF wikipedia article has a whole section on it. I like the hard G pronunciation, but I don't have a problem with people who say it with a soft G. But only because the designers of the format made the silly choice to choose that pronunciation.

Do you have a source for the creator of the format initially going with the hard-G pronunciation? I hadn't heard that before. (But I was already familiar with the fact that they paraphrased a Jif peanutbutter slogan to promote the file format, etc. I have read stuff about the origins of the name (as well as how GIF actually encodes image data in binary) but hadn't run across that.)
