That’s a great observation. To a certain extent I get where she’s coming from in the sense of “I’ll pray for you and let God work through you” faith based mentality however knowing something is wrong like you said and not addressing it, I was shocked when I heard that too.

I think this is a perfect example of why you shouldn't have more children than you can take care of without help. I know things happen but these people specifically went out and Just kept reproducing with the intent of having help from the children. You can't really spend the time necessary for each child that's truly needed to know them well as your own children.

I feel the same way. They were keeping an eye on him and yet he managed to molest 3 more girls. I think that they did not want to admit that they were in over their heads. And they were more concerned with the family reputation than anything else. When you separate yourself from greater society you are out of touch with his your methods will be recieved. Then they go and start a reality show based on their family and their way of life and set themselves up as a moral christian family and they have something like this in their history. In fact they were dealing with it when the first specials were taped and released to the public. All their talk about purity and living a Godly life was just that talk. Instead of doing the right thing where Josh was concerned they chose to just cover it up and not get him the real help that he needed. I wonder if they feel guilty about it now. I wonder if they realize if they had gotten him proper help he may not be in jail right now. I wonder if realize the injustice they perpetrated against their daughters. I guess not when you consider what Jim Bob did on the stand and when you consider what Michelle said in her letter to the judge. I find it interesting that Jinger has decided to release her book about how she has separated herself from the IBLP. I can't wait to read it.

This made me want to cry. I was assaulted, and have punched a guy for trying to touch me inappropriately but when I went to tell someone, especially the cops, nobody believed me. The cops gave the person who SA me and also sent revenge porn/harassed me and my family a warning after me having all this evidence. It was like a slap on the wrist, I remember leaving the station in tears and my dad asked me why I was crying, and I said "I didn't get justice..I didn't get closure." He just told me to stop crying, and we went home. This happened in my early 20s and im 33. I do believe Anna was brwinwashed, and shame on his parents too

I’m in New York State, and only in the past couple of years has the minimum marriage age been raised to 18. Until 2017, 14-15 year olds could marry with parental and Family Court consent(16-17 only needed parental consent)before it was raised to 17 with parental/judicial consent.

The fact they kept emphasizing he only touched the girls over the clothes and the girls supposedly didn't know it happened is absolutely them downplaying the horrific and disgusting assault their son did to his sisters! This makes me so upset! As a victim of sexual abuse by multiple family members, even in the same scenario, I woke up and knew what was happening. Regardless if it was over the clothes, them "not knowing" or "remembering" them asleep or not, it is a horrific crime and as parents they should have done better to protect their girls! They didn't want the negative publicity and wanted to sweep it all under the rug because they knew it would ruin their picture perfect godly life they claimed to have! I also want to add I love how they constantly tell the girls to cover up and wear things that won't tempt boys or cause them to stumble, yet their daughters were still assaulted. 🙄 they seem like the type of people who would probably say it was their fault if their shoulder was showing while they were asleep and blame the girls. So true. Also they may have pretended to be asleep hoping it would stop him. The dissociation is real, it can come out in physical reactions/memories, or a trigger happens and you have some sort of freeze, fight, flight or appease reaction - over reaction. Also the disassociation overlaps in other areas of your life. I would do things like at work and out with friends and then not remember later. Had a lot of counselling young which helped immensely! Also - don’t come for me anyone- but religion can often hide abuse and in fact is used in nefarious ways. It’s a shame as it took a long time to find any sort of spirituality later. Why do people/kids/youth abuse? Is it always because it was done to them? I just wonder why josh would do this to his siblings and others. It’s a forever heal. Your never the same after. My heart goes out to those girls for what they went through then and the healing they will always need to work on.

As a Christian, this is so heartbreaking. I have four teenagers, a 19 year old son and three younger teenage daughters. Never, EVER, would we lie to protect our son at the expense of our daughters. I don’t know if something happened to Josh as a child or what but I wouldn’t trust him around any child at the moment. I’ve read and watched several interviews where “experts” say individuals with these behaviors cannot be rehabilitated. I’m not sure how accurate or true that is… What Josh did as a teenager to his sisters is very sad. I wonder if he had received proper help during that time what would the outcome have been? @@betheecommentator I completely understand where you’re coming from and as far as his parents, keeping him away from other children including, but certainly not limited to his own siblings, is absolutely correct. If you look at the studies about the psychology behind child molesters, it’s always some kind of trauma that they went through when they themselves were children. And in this case, it seems to me to be pretty obvious that the belief system he was reared in or at the very very least the way his parents read him to look at it was what did it to him.

While there are definitely issues with fundie Christianity in general, so many of the issues the Duggars have are issues *they* created, and another fundie family like the Holts being horrified by their behavior and hypocrisy says a lot. Like, the audacity to claim the media is victimizing the girls, when Jim Bob and Michelle did it themselves by protecting Josh. And the way their kids’ (especially their daughters) opinions apparently didn’t matter when pursuing their tv show…the skated around the question super subtly! Also, it’s interesting to me that Jim Holt worked with juvenile sex offenders. It makes the fact that Anna’s family is in prison ministry even more incriminating…like, they had to find someone who would be conditioned to excuse his past, since his first courtship fell through because of it.

I think it is important to realize that these are ONLY the things Josh has been CAUGHT doing. I highly suspect that there is more out there. No one is caught e every single time they do something wrong. We also learned that the whole spin that Josh came to his parents and admitted his actions was a LIE. He only said something AFTER he had been caught by Jill. I am terrified as to what his sweet children or younger sisters will tell once they have grown up. Let's not forget when Josh was raided by homeland security (said raid was also lied about by the Duggars) he asked if things were being uploaded or downloaded. Per the Deptartment of Justice and other government agencies, the CSAM websites,typically require uploading and sharing content before content can be received. I certainly hope this is being quietly investigated by protective services.

As someone who has been through SA and had it become gossip, it is really terrible how it was handled. All we should have known was he had sexual misconduct in his teens and the family mishandled it. No other details. However, no, it is not ‘worse’ than the act. In fact, the pain is still because of the act itself. You can push it out of your head to an extent if nobody is talking about it but hearing it become gossip makes it impossible to avoid. You have to think about it on their terms, not yours. It really does hurt, but if the abuser never abused you then you would never have to go through that… so it is still on the abuser. I’ve gone through a lot of therapy to get to a place where I understand that.

You know kids do this more commonly then people think. 13 year neighbor when I was 6. I was told it was a game by him and didn’t tell anyone until I was older. At the time I felt very shamed, but didn’t understand it. I was told by my mom that adults shouldn’t touch me inappropriately. However what that meant was not clarified. Honestly, people think it’s only adults who are a threat. I can attest that is not the case. You should be monitoring your child all the time regardless of age, gender, etc…and very early teach what’s ok to be touched and what is not. Using words that are the actual word not something like “pocket,” etc…also to trust your gut and tell even if your not sure.

The girls themselves said on TV they had no recollection of it and had to be told by their parents after Josh ousted himself to them. That is the Duggar's official telling as well, that Josh told on himself. Whereas other accounts, including some of more recent accounts of the daughters, maintain he got caught by one of his victims who then told their parents - he can't have been the one who told on himself and also have a victim tell on him as a first account. One is false - the Duggars are lying to downplay the severity of his actions.

From what I understand, Anna Duggar was pretty much given to Josh. I can’t remember exactly what I read, but it was something about Anna wasn’t Josh’s first choice and people theorize that basically Jim Bob bought Anna’s courtship and marriage from Anna’s parents because Anna’s family was poor. Something along those lines.
