There's an amazing KZbin video out there that smoothly ties together the lore from Doom and Legend of Zelda, suggesting that Doomguy and Link share the same soul, or are the same person. And the demons of Hell are the same beings as Ganon and his minions. They're just evolved tremendously in Doom games, since it's like millions of years after the events of Zelda games, and in another dimension/universe entirely. The video is just for fun, but it's awesome. It's now my own personal head-canon that the Zelda and Doom franchises are connected lol

The only criticism that arose for me with Doom Eternal is that I really miss the 'realistic' environments from Doom 2016. Every environment on Mars felt real, every environment in Hell made me want to know more about the demons. Doom Eternal turned the environment into a silly cartoon with impossible architecture. I mean, the Cultist base on Earth was just silly as hell, like, where did that facility even come from?

To clarify the lack of finishers: the glory kill system was changed. Instead of dedicated animations, you can now aim for specific body parts of demons from any angle and use melee/weapons to deal precise damage, without being locked into an animation. So I could cut off the arms of a demon, ignore it, and continue fighting others. Or with the Pinky demon riders, I could aim for them, and hit them off the Pinky, etc. The main purpose is to keep the gameplay fluid.

i feel like ID has what a lot of Japanese developers have but western ones often don't, which is an actual long-term work environment where they can hone their skills over multiple projects in a row. A lot of the reason why many western AAA franchises are subpar now is because the companies are managed by investment-brained tech freaks who view skilled creatives as interchangeable resources that they can mass layoff after a project is done, which doesn't happen as often in Japan. This allows creators to work together for long periods of time and iterate on their past ideas, programming, and assets rather than being constantly shuffled around. ID at least feels like they have that kind of work environment, which is what is best for workers and best for games.

@Ageleszly2 күн бұрын
Basically every game I played so far who decided to go the way with Sliders and "Presets"( that are just "packages" how the sliders are set by default) were atrociously balanced if you really wanna play them on a high level. I know people love the feeling how it gives them absolute control about their difficulty, but the truth is to implement such a system you forfeit wider, much more meaningful ways to influence the challenge in pursit of player agency. Everything must be parameterisable, everything that can't is fixed and stays that way which eliminates the potential of different difficulty levels feeling substantially different. Furthermore, take this example: There's an smaller an enemy like an carcass with 50 HP for example, (just arbitrary numbers) let's say you set the enemy HP to 300%, now the Carcass has 150 HP. In contrast, let's say an Tyrant has something like 300 HP and now with 300% more health has whooping 900 HP, there is an increase of 100 next to an increase of 600. Enemys with lower values from begin with, won't feel that much more difficult until you barely feel a difference, while high values suddenly explode that it feels almost laughably overtuned. What an finetuned challenge actually needs to accomplish is setting the values in relation to what the actual enemy is supposed to mean in the context of the game, but with higher growth that relations begins to shift very drastically. Games with good difficulty options that feel satisfying do exactly that, they use different multipliers for different enemies or sometimes using even fixed values. You can't do that with general sliders that always affect everything, especially if you increase them, should a higher difficulty make parrying more nifty to execute than it needs to be? I think not, at some point gameplay doesn't even comparable anymore, such things shouldn't have too much variance.

I believe it’s gonna have the main bad guy and likely a titan or two. Remember Hugo said the story leads into the codex entry’s from 2016. Those entry’s mention a fight with a titan and the betrayers son turning into the icon of sin.

From doom 1993 to 2025. EACH game better and refined through the years. Inspiring this 2025 release. Looks SUPERB.

Dude, as someone who is a low level employee in a corporate, I can tell you - it's ALMOST never a one-sided thing. Especially in a team that big. I'm sure both parties argued on what THEY think is right - id claims Mick didn't deliver despite multiple deadlines, and Mick says he didn't have enough time and didn't get his payments. I'm sure the actual reason for all this is in a grey area and never black or white. It's expectations from an employer vs an employee finding the work culture harsher than his expectations. There is no who's RIGHT here. It's simply a matter of perspective. If you ask a workaholic, they'll probably side with id, if you ask someone who prefers a healthy work-life balance, they'd side with Mick. Realistically how much did Mick delay his work? Nobody will know. I have a few fellow employees who slack at work and complain no work-life balance, while I see other fellow employees who are workaholics who think the former employees are slackers. As I said before, the truth is only a matter of perspective who you ask, but nobody could REALLY know how much work Mick had to put in in what amount of time. I'm gonna sit neutral here. But I'm still buying The Dark Ages though lol.

@@zerotactix5739I agree. We don’t know the full story. Considering it’s one guy against Marty (Who seems like a nice guy) and no else of significance have stood up and corroborated with the allegations I have to give Marty the benefit of the doubt.

Mick wrote a 15k word account with evidence. How is that one-sided? Lol. A corporate fucking a freelancer over is infinitely more likely than the other way around. Its just how power structures work@zerotactix5739

Seeing Marty Stratton still at ID software after what he did to Mick Gordon already makes me not want to play this.

@@s.k.1082 Bullies always win, whether it's Marty Stratton or Donald Trump. That's the way of the world. Let's not pretend Hugo Martin is some amazing guy either. Anyone with basic intuition can tell that guy is a huge prick too. I guarantee you there's a bunch of people out there who both of those guys have made life hell for, and not in a fun Doom kind of way.

As if Mick gordon would want to work with them again for what their did to him. it would be a surprize to see one of their tracks but seems very unlikely at least the soundtrack already seems promising improvement from doom eternal from what we got to hear already of some tracks in this video.

Man i just love how interactive and grandiose everything is. The environments themselves are jaw dropping and constantly moving. The sense of scale and npcs in the background and the sky gives it that extra presence and punch. Everything around you is living and bigger than you. Amazing work!!

it looks so good. Eternal is my favorite FPS game ever but there was no way they could top that, I think it was so smart to go for a completely different gameplay loop and pace with this. id just keeps delivering incredible games, one of the few big devs i still have total faith in
