Cait Sith/Reeve was always one of the most interesting characters in the original IMO, but i felt he was a bit underused. I'm glad he got a bit more screentime in Rebirth, or at least it felt like. Haven't had time to get through the game yet, just seen some clips on youtube so far. There was a moment in the original that I thought was really great, when Cait Sith and Barret are having an argument aboard the Highwind, Barret is calling out Reeve for being a Shinra stooge and Cait Sith is like "bro, you were literally a terrorist". Ultimately Reeve is one of the only guys in Shinra with a moral compass, and he's just trying to do what he thinks is right in the position he's in. He's still there to help the party in the end, so he does care about doing what's right. He comes from a different realm of experience than everyone else in the party, so he approaches things in a different way. He's probably the most "law abiding citizen" out of all the main characters, so when the rest of the party is stacked with mercenaries, eco-terrorists, ninjas, edgy coffin dwellers, and disgruntled pilots, he brings a refreshing perspective to the game. Everyone always remembers the main characters like Cloud, Sephiroth, Aerith and Tifa, so Reeve has always been underrated IMO. One of my favorite characters out of the whole cast of characters from FFVII. I don't think I cared all that much for him the first time I played the game many years ago, but I eventually appreciated him a lot more on subsequent replays over the years.
@firetools7 ай бұрын
As someone who never got to play og FF7 when it came out, the lower half of your comment brings up a good point about character focus. From my perspective I only knew of FF7 through the frequent appearances and cameos of Cloud, Sephiroth, Aerith, and Tifa. These new games however have brought these other characters to the spotlight and shows me how interesting the rest of FF7's cast are.

They did want to play up the fact that Reeve was pretty much the only good person in Shinra. It was to make him more consistent. Like with Tseng slapping Aerith in the original game, when canonically, he befriended Aerith had is implied to have feelings for her. Reeve was basically the only good person in Shinra, as he actively wanted to help the people. But him threatening Marlene wouldn't for with someone of better moral fiber like Reeve.

this is something that always bothered me when these betrayals happen: - betrays their party for enemy - refuses to elaborate why they did when the enemy already left - gets confused/sad on why the party is upset with them
@dinorex34643 ай бұрын
This was actually the english localization's fault, they changed some of the dialogues and ended up making the meaning harder to understand. In the japanese version it's made very clear that Cait Sith is not confused because the party is upset, but rather that deep down a part of him grew very attached to them. So his final line is something among the lines of "Damn, in the end I really liked you all...", which makes sense considering his character. He knew it had to end this way and yet he grew attached to them and still felt bad.
