while this guy is an absolute beast and sadist, he has nothing on Drukhari. He let them off relatively fast, they barely suffered before death and didn't last more than a few days of torture. The Drukahri slowly kill slaves over days, with little barely poisoned cuts that inflict unimaginable pain, without causing outright death, the subjects can't even sleep because of the pain and when the effect is wearing off, they cut a little bit more. When the subject appears to be about to die, they cure him just enough not to die and continue sometimes for years just for amusement. The Homunculi are worse as they do their many experiments on live subjects and experiment on their subjects until they die, then they bring them back to life only to continue until they get bored of the abomination they have been "working" on.

The story just tries to justify it by making all the important characters shitty too but the reality is that if people were this eye for an eye about injustices. We’d just end up killing each other. He could’ve absolutely got his revenge in a way that didn’t involved the slaughtering of millions. Maybe just brainwash the princess into being a better person, or simply exposing her crimes and moving on would’ve been better. Hell he could’ve teamed up with other marginalized people to bring down the oppressive monarchy. There had to be better options that feeding some dude that killed his mom his own son.

The twisted and corrupt kindgom with an MC out for revenge trope. The nobility and priests being twisted and vile remindss me of Akame ga Kill and Redo of Healer. I'm sure there are a lot more wirh this trope gaining popularity. It's definitely cathartic to see a man driven to insanity getting his revenge on those that wronged him. I like that he's reminding his victims of their sins before killing them. That way, they know they're absolutely screwed because he knows their sins. To make things even funnier, he's killing them using the very methods they enjoyed using. The guards sodomized and impaled like they did with his comrades and villagers. The priest that liked to waterboard got waterboarded. The woman killed with her poison that she enjoyed making. The servants forced to uncover their mass graves and thrown in them. The prideful cannibal swordsman beaten in a fight, then forced to his son, and then being fed to his other son. The irony is just beautiful. Definitely enjoy the creativity of his Darkness powers. He's able to see a soul's past and its nature. He's passing judgment on humanity.
