Out of the two I’d say knuckles he has a very strong sense of duty he might receive a vision from tikal or chaos of sonic doing something that could be destructive to the master emerald or others for all we know it could be someone like fleetway escaping into the master emerald and pulling the strings by messing with knuckles through his connection to the emerald. That's what I was thinking about Tails too because he has a dark form and some how or anytime, he could betray Sonic. There could be more enough possibilities when Sonic's closest friends will betray him for a bad reason or a good reasons. First, we need tô remember that Mephiles is a saddistuc character, he loves tô play with the fear and despair of one's heart using false Hope to illude it's victims and them triste itts prey mind to make sure It doesn't wake and finally after torturing from inside out for só long and its prey has lost the Lost drop of sanity he kill, just like Voldemort at the Dark Ages. But the duo of villans would be caught of guarda once Shadow and Silvia not only was still loyal to Silver but also discovered their Plan and goes tô warn Silver and the 3 of them goes to fight Mephiles and Infinite, breaking the illudions and mind controll that was taking over others and everyone in Endgame style defears those two. Mephiles could bê telling the truth (again in a certain way) and really trying to save the save the world this time, or he could following what he chose tô be sincee both, is to ealy tô know, but fight now, he can't be trusted, Silver can be close tô Mephiles, he can not trust: Keep your friends close and your enemies closet.
