Yesterday I noticed my 26 yrs old son was crying during our bbq. I had to ask him why. He told me that a great artist died (DMX). He said he was his most important motivation because he reminded of his brother who has the same exact problems he had when he was on the streets. He also enjoys all of his songs. Left home and live homeless at age 14, which is where he began to make friends with stray dogs. He was extremely intelligent and always had straight A's, until his anger got the best of him and he started to get in trouble. They way he talks in the book, he seemed to care about people and wished things could better, but he never had people who loved him, which led to his anger and troubles. 2Pac's story is very similar.

He did say his whole family was poor beyond words. He wanted to go to his grandma but his mother wldn't allow it, he wld usually go for food and had to be back. I suspect his mum had her own demons, sadly.

I saw DMX at an old skool rap concert several years ago, though I would not have considered DMX "old skool". He came with his large entourage and interacted with the audience. It was a good concert. RIP DMX, you will truly be missed.
