I love your new bettas. You have such a good eye for breeding. Hopefully things are calming down some as you complete your fish room. Being a momma, wife, you tuber, voice actor, etc. is difficult at good times much less throwing a move into the mix. Your energy is contagious! Love watching your program.

Woohoo for unboxing! Can't wait to follow the breeding projects. OT... My daughter, who moved to Austin to try and work for Roosterteeth is beyond happy that Mom's small world syndrome struck with you. LOL She accused me of finding new hobbies as a way to continue connecting with her now that she left home. She hasn't figured out I was just waiting for her to do so that I might have space for a fishroom.

Happy for you that you are able to focus on your betta project. Can't wait to see what it is! I don't know if you have ever had crowntail female bettas before but in my experience, the females tend to get egg bound and their already big bellies get HUGE. I've had one expel her eggs on her own. Another literally split open and I could not save her :( Currently watching 6 others in my crowntail sorority and hoping they will be able to expel their eggs. I'll never own any more crowntails because my heart just can't take it. I just wanted to make you aware of this as I have read similar accounts online. I just love how you make their quarantine containers all comfy and homey with the catapa leaves and frogbit!
@crazycritterlady02 жыл бұрын
I've heard that bettas (and other fish) can autophagate ("reabsorb"?) their eggs if starved for continuos period of time. That seems a bit cruel, but still better than death in my opinion... Never tried it myself tho.
@tree.652 жыл бұрын
@@crazycritterlady0 Thanks for your reply! I once tried holding feeding back for three days. But I couldn't bring myself to do it any longer. I'm not sure how long we are supposed to "starve" them. I've read that they can survive 5 days without food. But I was too afraid to attempt it. I can't hold back food in the sorority though because those ladies can get real mean to each other! Considering letting them mate with one of my males just to get the eggs out but not raise the eggs.
@SimplyBetta2 жыл бұрын
I have heard that about CT females, too! That they get SUPER plump with eggs. I wonder why that is. I'll also cut back on food if I have a fish that is about to explode, haha. Like feeding only 3x/week. A chubby fish will be fine with a schedule like that

Awesome to see you settle in and get going with the betta again. I have had all sorts of fish in the past and started with betta for the first time and i love your channel. I have 2 small planted tanks. One with a betta and the other with crystal black shrimp...unfortunately the shrimp and bettas didnt do so well so i had to get rid of one of my bettas. I have a samurai betta that i kept. It was interesting as he was young and was black with silver scales across the top and the fin veins were also platinum. 5 months later he has little red tips on his fins and looks even more awesome.

@crazycritterlady02 жыл бұрын
Yea, that's a very interesting topic. I'm sure this channel has followers from all over the world (i am from Russia for example), and sometimes finding a good quality fish for a specific project in your home country might be very hard or even impossible.
@ingesexton8112 жыл бұрын
Honestly if you’re starting out, save your money and buy cheap bettas from the pet store and try breeding with those first. Mine has gorgeous fish from 5 to 30 bucks each. Breeding bettas isn’t as easy as some fish so make sure it’s your thing before spending $$$$ on imports. Also you’ll need to invest on a rack and water system for all the babies you could end up with. Also…. How are you going to get rid of all those babies? Some fish stores will give you credit for them but you’ll need cups or bags to transport them. Also if you breed you’ll want high quality food for all life stages maybe start some live cultures of your own… also you may want a brine shrimp hatchery setup.
@crazycritterlady02 жыл бұрын
@@ingesexton811 On the other hand, higher quality fry might have better chances at finding good new home. Also some people might have a particular interest in a certain colour/type/etc (which can't be found in their home city/country), and strong interest plays a key role in achieving success (in my opinion). I absolutly respect your opinion - i just think it can work differently for different people depending on their personal traits :) I would also recommend the author of the original comment to delve into betta genetics (if it hasn't been done yet) Thus you will be able to roughly predict the results you might get from crossing a pair. And it's also really interesting :)
@ingesexton8112 жыл бұрын
@@crazycritterlady0 of course it's whatever works for the individuals situation. My local fish store has beautiful fish, like I said for the 5 to 30 dollar range and I don't have to pay shipping. Thats why a lot of people who import buy so many fish at once, the shipping is really high so for a beginner it may be better to start local. Get into some of the fish clubs, see what everyone is wanting. Save your money from other fish sales to invest in that expensive super exotic pair that everyone wants after you have some breeding experience. Like every adventure in life do research, then research more and never listen to someone who says their way is the only way. Figure out what works for you.
@edz12282 жыл бұрын
getting a pair of fish for breeding is absolutely easy, but you might want to think twice when they grew up. On average spawn, there gonna be like at least 100-300 fries. The most important part of keeping them is space, but before you start a spawn, do you have experience keeping A betta and for how long does your betta live with you. Im asking this because water is a very important part for the fries. You need to change them everyday or every 2 days. There's actually so much more to consider, but i agree with Inge Sexton that what you gonna do with them after the grown up? And if the quality is bad (from buying unknown line bettas), what you gonna do with them (2 months old you'll see their quality). Are you up for feeding them to big fishes? If not you dont like the idea, then you better not start breeding.

Woo hoo 🥰 Very cute Taylor, love the video I have a question, I got a betta spawn from a contact in Chinatown, of mostly female, that I turned into a sorority, and I think 1 or two boys snuck in there. So far everything is fine but I know I’m getting close to when if there are boys, I need to separate them, so far there is zero consistent aggression, an occasional flare, very minor. Question: I’m having trouble identifying the boys of if there is any, it’s not immediate obvious based on what I’ve researched, any advise?
@SimplyBetta2 жыл бұрын
The first thing that is noticeable is the length of the ventral fins! males will have obviously longer ventral fins. Honestly, if you're not seeing aggression and there are only a few males, you can probably hold off on removing them. I have had spawns where the males get nasty really fast and I've had to remove them, and I've had spawns where the males were really chill and I just left them in!
