I don't usually have trouble separating artist from artwork when the person has great flaws, but it's a sliding scale based on how much talent/brilliance you have otherwise, and she seems like she mostly left toxicity not inspiration with others. It makes her negligible/forgettable for me.

My favorite Bette Davis movie is "All About Eve." I believe a lot of that character was her in real life. She was brilliant in it. I read about her troubled personal life -- the husbands and children. She never moved to Hollywood. To juggle a top-notch film career with family life was very difficult, especially if you didn't live there. That said, she was a remarkable actress. P.S. Can you do a deep dive into Natalie Wood? She's one of my favorites.

You can see Bette's houses- she liked to move a LOT!- online, search for the homes of Bette Davis. Once she got her movie contract, she moved herself, her sister, and her mother into a house she bought. She made so many films and had so little time off that it would have been impossible not to live in Hollywood. One of her houses was a block from Warner Brothers.

‘The bathroom was not going through some things’ if she truly knew how to cook beans. It’s a common misconception beans always cause gas/diarrhea/etc. When they are prepared/cooked properly then this isn’t necessarily the case! They need to be soaked at least 12 hours then cooked slowly on low simmer until well done & very very soft. Even with canned beans you can cook them longer to help prevent gas. Just sharing some bean advice from a Mexican lol.

I can give many examples. The belt scene was true, Joan reading the book and getting the idea for the movie and coming to Bette to star in it all true, all the drama that happened between them on set was also all true, a lot of their conversations were all true and can be found in many interviews, press releases all confirmed by them, and so so much more. Olivia de havilland in the show might have some discrepancies because she tried to sue Ryan Murphy for her depiction in it but idt there was she and her sister were known for their feud with eachother in Hollywood and I think it was TOO accurate and that offended her even more Lolol. Depicting her family drama in a TV show. I’m an old Hollywood historian I study this shit for fun.

I took her daughter's book with a grain of salt. I once read that her daughter was angry because her mother stopped giving her and her husband money because the husband would not keep a job. I also read that she decided to write a book because Christine Crawford wrote one about her mother and made a lot of money. I think it was cruel to write this book because at least Christine waited until her mother died. This is what hurt Bette Davis, she was still alive. True. My parents always told me EVERYONE smoked back then. I've visited museums that had cigarette ad posters from back in those days. They ALL had things written on the ads like "#1 Dr. recommended cigarette to soothe your sore throat!" "#1 Dr. Recommended to reduce stress & relax!" Dr's smoked. I've always been told everyone smoked & the kids growing up were ALL subjected to all the 2nd-hand smoke in their homes. My Dad's mother, my deceased Grandmother on his side, did NOT ever smoke, & she lived to be 100 years old. She lived pretty independently until her mid 90's, but then needed a care facility. My biological mother's parents both smoked. HER mother quit in her 50's, but died in her late 60's of a heart attack. Her Dad...smoked Marlboro Reds like a freight train his whole life. Weirdly, he lived to age 85, & had just developed the very beginnings of Emphysema the year he died. He barely had it yet but his Dr. told him. He basically died of natural causes/old age. However, the average life expectancy back in Bette Davis' Era was much shorter than today's. Due to smoking, sure, but also bcus we've come so far since then with medicines, treatments for all sorts of illnesses etc. I LOVE the old black & white films. Joan Crawford films are my favorites. She was SUCH a force to be reckoned with. Bette Davis is my close #2 favorite. My favorite black & white film is "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" bcus it stars both Joan Crawford & Bette Davis. That's a heavenly pair in one film, & they BOTH rocked the hell out of that film! 🏆 🎬 🌟 ❤ My fave Bette Davis films are All About Eve & Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte. ❤🎉❤

I too think Davis was beautiful, but she wasn't afraid to not be beautiful in the part. She played many parts where she was aged, or made to look fat, and she never shied away from such roles. In fact, she seemed to persue these roles. She wanted to play complex characters that were really raw and gritty. She didn't care about being beautiful. She cared about being the best actress, and she truly was. She may have been a beautiful starlet, but she was an actress first. Love her!

So, it’s one set of siblings vs an other set of siblings opinions. There has never been any proof to the allegations, and many people who knew Joan personally, vocalized support for her, but the book, and movie, became such a media storm that those rebuttals where lost in the zeal of judging and canceling a dead celebrity. No one can ‘know’ other than God and the people involved. You have chosen to believe Christina based on your personal opinion. Sadly, these women are not alive to defend themselves against the continued allegations.

@@suzyque The abuse happened to Christina and Chris. The sisters are younger and possibly didn't witness it. My mother had 3 siblings. She was the oldest and her brothers were closer to her age. She told me stories about abuse by my grandmother that my aunt never saw because she was the youngest. I've heard of this happening in families all the time. A parent will single out a kid or 2 for some reason and the rest are treated better. Or by the time the "baby" of the family comes along the parent stops the abuse. I think this is more about nonsensical celebrity worship with people not wanting to believe their idols could be monsters. Especially in the US.

Bette was devastated what her daughter said when she addressed it on her autobiography. She had an interview in 1980 before My Mother’s Keeper saying how her mother was hard working. Even her adopted son dismissed the book.

My sister was a huge Bette fan. My favorite movie is “ Whatever Happened To Baby Jane” and “ All About Eve.” I never saw the resemblance to Drew Barrymore til you mentioned it… I now see it too.

I haven't read daughter B.D.'s book but I've been meaning to. (She's an evangelist so I expect the book may be true.) Some of my favorite movies starring Bette Davis is Another Man's Poison with husband Gary Merrill and my most favorite is Dead Ringer. She was great as Elizabeth I. She's always interesting to watch.

Agreed is see the resemblance to Drew 😊 I like the fight in her as well she wasn’t the typical Hollywood beauty but I do think she was alluring with those eyes, she had confidence in her craft . I respect that, one of the greats. I love old movies 🍿 old Hollywood, they are the best. There was and still is a lot of scandal though.

I love your content. I suggest you cover Natalie Wood. You have a beautiful voice but the background music is migraine inducing just because of the level being too high and the repetition. I would bring the level up on your voice so the music is much less prominent.
