I was in the audience and met her shortly after... there was nothing frail about this woman, actress, person. What a model of integrity Miss Davis was and always will be!

I agree with your observation. The contrast between the frailty of the body and the agility of the mind is striking.

Her last years were tough, but I'm glad that she lived long enough to witness the public adulation and ovations that she received whenever she appeared on any talk show. The lady was a Treasure.

Bette forgot....It wasn't Marilyn's 1st film...it was Ladies of the chorus made in 1948, then she made A ticket to tomahawk 1950, The asphalt jungle 1950 then All about Eve the same year but she only had a small part in the movie.

smoking back then is glamour celebrities like her joan crawford clark gable and many golden age star intend to promote the tobacco company..... and for bette why she's skinny because she suffered from stroke and she got hospitalized in 1983. before that stroke incident, bette was first diagnosed with breast cancer in year 1983 Within two weeks of her surgery she suffered four strokes which caused paralysis in the left side of her face and in her left arm, and left her with slurred speech. She commenced a lengthy period of physical therapy and, aided by her personal assistant, Kathryn Sermak, gained partial recovery from the paralysis. Even late in life, Davis smoked one hundred cigarettes a day

Her comments about Marilyn are interesting. She said the men in all about Eve didn't find her that attractive and didn't think she would make it. But Bette says she knew she would make it - I'm not so sure Bette is telling the truth though. She likes to always say she always knows things ahead of other people. I'm not so sure....

She looks so tiny here, but she's kind of gone back to the size she was, when she started out in movies as a slim blonde.
