Do you sometimes find it a challenge to keep the arms strong, mindful and elegant when you're working to create all the other movements and isolations in the dance?

All three ideas are basic but never thought of this perspective, what a great teacher. What a unique perspective! First time i've heard someone else mention the arms hurting too- it put me off belly dance in class! Thanks so much for mentioning the change in focus - my posture has transformed. Focusing on the the mid back lengthens the neck, feels good, looks strong, graceful and relaxed. I wish you taught in England!

Belly dancing must keep you young, you are gorgeous and positively ageless!! I have a comment and a question. First thank you for this video, it's so important to take the time to develop graceful arm movements! These are excellent tips for beginners, start early with these good habits and your dance will be balanced and beautiful! Here's the question: i heard this the other day from a traditionally trained Raks teacher. She said that you are never supposed to face your palm to the audience because it is considered a rude gesture to them. Have you ever heard of this?? I haven't and have been dancing for awhile! Anyways thank you again for this wonderfully informative video!

I cannot confirm that I have in all sincerity, will have to do some research on the palm to the audience question. Thank you for asking this.

You are a fabulous teacher. These 3 concepts helped me a lot. I always had trouble having my arms be more directed. You broken it down for me as to how I will become more directed with my arm movements in dance. Thank you!!!!

It’s sooo flowie, Lol This reminds me of flamenco, hardly surprising considering the moors were in southern Spain for centuries, must have brought the influence with bellydancing, Incidentally everyone thinks that drawing a bow comes from your arms, it doesn’t it comes from your back if you do it properly, You basically draw your shoulder blades together, no archer can slouch, even if they want to lol, Lead with your wrists 👍

Moving my arms were always hard and I got tired. Now with this explanation that You have to engage your back and schoulderblades, it became easier. Thank you soo much !! And the idea of pushing something liquid( especially dark chocolate my favourite) made things clear. Simple yet worth the trying. !!!🤗🤗🤗

Thank you so much Sahira! I truly appreciate this video and the analogy of me using my muscles to push through liquid space. I tend to have a stiff left arm/ wrist connection and have been setting goals and intentions to become more fluid within my arms and flow. Your first set of guidance regarding letting my wrist lead my fingers was at first a little challenging for me to mentally visualize within the left side of my body (the stiffer side). However, I just chose to be more gentle with myself and start small in my left-sided wrist motions.

One aspect of love is to share knowledge & talents. You have true compassion, for the caring of others, especially with us strangers. I just started belly dancing class this month. My hands and arms are stiff, and to me are the hardest thing to learn. With both of your tutorials on hands and arms, I now, have a good start, and I will continue to practice. Yes, the hands makes all the difference! Thank you very much from Florida.

Thank you Sahira! This is very helpful. My arms are very skinny. I think their boney look visually amplifies the stiffness in my arm movements and makes them look less fluid. Glad to know your tips and will try them!

Hi Sahira! I have been belly dancing for 2 years and I'm still not comfortable with using my arms/hands, which really limits me. Could you do a video with simple arm/hand movements in a dance? I feel that I look very stiff and edgy and not fluid and wavy. Thank you!
