This guy is a natural born teacher . He teaches from paying attention to his own riding experience , not from some theory . Teachers that teach in this way are always clear and easy to understand . People that teach from theory are generally not as lucid and lack the ability to transfer that knowledge to the student . These are exceptionally helpful videos with a lot of emphasis on visual explanation .

Kyle - I don't do KZbin comments often but felt compelled to write. I'm a road cyclist who has fallen in love with mountain biking (identity crisis!). Anyway, mountain biking is so much more about skill and while I have seen many videos by many creators, yours are the absolute best. I can't tell you how much I love and appreciate your videos. They cover great topics, you talk about the concepts and physics, you then walk through the exercises in logical progressing steps, and make it easy for people to emulate. And on top of it, you and April seem like you could qualify as nicest people on the planet. Thanks SO much and please keep them coming!

It’s funny how if you just “drop the anchor” as Kyle said, you don’t come to a complete stop, but instead your back wheel just kind of skids or bounces off the surface, and when you increase breaking power steadily than it’s much easier to come to a stop. This is really helpful. Thanks Kyle and April!

Hey guys, Just wanted to say your videos are helping my wife feel more comfortable on the mtb bike. She watched all your video's and used them on our first bike park day at snow summit. I used to desert race Motos and it was fun hanging with friends but I've always wanted to do something with the wife and wanted her to find a hobby. Thats when one day she suggested we rent bikes in big bear and try mountain biking on the local trails. Man was she in love and so was I. I looked at her completely different she was 100% more attractive in my eyes. So seeing how much she loved it and was into it It prompted me to sell one of my spare dirt bikes and we spent a month doing research on different classes of bikes and settled on enduro cause we'd be mostly riding park with a little bit of trails. So we searched everyday on offer up for like 10 hours a day and finally bought us a pair of used bikes. A 16' Norco range 7.2 (mine) and a 2011 Specialized enduro comp (hers). In our 11 years together Its one of the best things we've done together and its honestly brought us closer together, it almost feels like we've fallen in love again. I recommend it for any couple out there thats adventurous type. She's 25 and I'm 27. Now our only problem is finding a baby sitter for our 1 y.o hahaha.

@@AprilRideMTB I'd love to see a similar video when rolling steep, loose surfaces (either dirt, loose gravel, and sandy slopes). Yeah I have a few of those where I bike. May only be 15 feet of more or less a chute (hence the loose bits). Too much rear and its a skid show and too much front will compress and plow the front tire into the soft terrain. I'm under the impression the really loose or soft slopes must be ridden faster?

That does make more sense and I tried that at first since I came from moto too, but for some reason I just had Kyle switch it back to North American MTB standard. I don't seem to have any problems going back and forth from moto to mtb. -April

Single handedly the best mtb tutorials out there. It makes sense, it's relatable, you show the logic behind the do's and don'ts and you are just a wonderful coach. Whatever video you guys make next, it will be great and educational and we will love it.

April is just killing it! Nice job. Amazing what the front brake can do especially in a straight line. My vote is for cornering next. I went riding with my daughter at Beacon Hill in Spokane on Thursday and we talked about looking through the exit and turning the shoulders into it and the grip and flow through a berm is mind blowing. I know what to do it's just getting the body to follow the brain!

The way you explain things just makes it click for me. I've always been afraid to use my front brake for the fear of going over the bars, but now I want to try it on my next ride this weekend. Thanks. You two are awesome.

I'm used to the power of front brake stoppage from riding motorcycle but the "braking position" / "joint stack" is a fundamental I've never considered and it will be a game changer in my (braking) riding!!

A vote for cornering. And thank you for these videos! It helps to see someone who knows what they are doing, but it is WAY more "oh, maybe I can do that, too" to see someone go from first attempt to amazing progress (you set the bar high, April!). Your style of coaching is one of the best I've seen on these videos, Kyle - easy to follow without talking down and your positive motivation is such a confidence builder.

Yes I have been afraid to do some of the more steeper hills on the trails because I didn't know/was afraid of falling! At 32 years of age and with 4 kids I cannot afford to injure myself lol this is so valuable! Thanks!

I’ve been pedaling for years, but mostly asphalt, farm and ranch roads, and easy mountain bike trails. I’ve recently started trying harder trails, and your info could literally be saving (if not my life) me from a trip to the ICU. Thanks!

You guys are absolutely killing it. Such great advice, clearly explained so that I always walk away with *understanding*, not just *knowing* what steps to execute (that way my instincts on the trail come more naturally, I’m not in a state of constantly reminding myself as I ride). It sets your content apart from every other channel. So sick. Loving it. Keep going! ❤️

I would really appreciate a cornering video. This braking video was really helpful and I wish I had seen it before I crashed this last weekend during my 3rd time riding since my husband got me into mountain biking this year. I really appreciate the time you put into the videos and April’s point of view after riding.

I've found your videos to be very helpful generally, but rarely is any one piece of advice instantly helpful like this about braking. I did a longer descent a few days ago that completely smoked my hands and I came away feeling weird about my braking and wondering if where I was going wrong. I watched this video that evening, and the next day my partner and I, armed with the knowledge, were riding even steeper terrain with much more confidence. Even though this will require a lot of practice just like every other bike related skill, for some reason we saw instant improvement from the advice and were amazed by it. Really appreciate your coaching style and content!

This is an excellent lesson and way to describe braking. The hill brake timing is almost identical to how we learnt on a motorbike as the theory is the same. Some extras - in the UK to pass your motorbike license you need to learn to emergency stop going faster than 50kmph and the examiner is looking for two things, 1) how quick you stop based on where your front wheel stops and 2) rebound from your front suspension. At those speeds (straight line) it's about progressive braking with about 90% of braking from front brake and the rear brake only used for final 10% to stabilise the bike as you stop. Front brake is king.

April and Kyle, thank you very much for being such awesome Content Creators! This video saved my rear the day before yesterday.
