It’s a perfectly timed wake up scene reminding the viewer that Jimmy is no saint. He’s cold; he’s a criminal. This isn’t a good guy’s story. Just like breaking bad,. Your opinions of Howard and Jimmy will change yet again as the series continue. As with real life, these characters aren't stiff and stagnant. They're fluid and spectral. As for now, Jimmy is finally free of the unbearable and impossible pressure applied to him by Chuck. Jimmy did everything for him for years only to be told he didn't matter to his only flesh and blood. Chuck was incredibly abusive. He was a manipulative, deceitful, and treacherous brother who cared more for his own ego than his caretaker little brother. If you've never been in an abusive relationship, or known abuse in any way, I wouldn't expect you to understand how at peace it feels knowing you're safe. Jimmy is finally safe to be Jimmy.

I find it interesting how quickly everyone on the couch ignored how selfish Howard was being this whole episode. yes, on the surface it looks like he was being helpful to Jimmy by taking care of Chuck's obituary and handling funeral arrangements, etc...however not once did he stop to think how what he was saying or doing would affect Jimmy. why do you think Jimmy stopped listening on the phone when Howard's obituary went on and on about Chuck's accomplishments? how do you think Jimmy felt when it was Howard who was informed first about Chuck's death and not him? and then that scene when Howard is trying to unload his guilt onto Jimmy, someone who just lost his only surviving blood relative...did he stop to think how Jimmy might be feeling? throughout this episode it was clear that Jimmy was dealing with his own guilt and so when Howard gave him an excuse to deflect it, he obviously took that chance. that's in his character. was it right? of course not. do I fault him for it? no. at the end of the day, Chuck made the decision to end his own life and neither Jimmy nor Howard are to blame. Chuck had a mental illness, pure and simple. I'm not saying I don't like Howard, I do, but I can't agree that he was completely blameless in this episode. I just can't. neither of them were.
@jkhillhaha
@jkhillhaha 4 жыл бұрын
In fairness, Howard is currently writing the obituary for a man who just sued his firm and caused him to personally pay him off. Even ignoring that, it's also a bit unfair to criticize his reaction to such a sudden tragedy. Nobody would have perfect emotional timing, especially considering that Howard and Jimmy don't really have a personal relationship. "going on and on about Chuck's accomplishments" is basically the point of an obituary. It might - and does - make Jimmy feel worse, but he had to do it. It would be unfair to expect Howard to write an obituary for someone without at least reading it to his only blood relative. He didn't even ask Jimmy to make arrangements, a phone call is a pretty low expectation for an immediate family member.

@@jkhillhaha Howard and Jimmy pretty much have a personal relationship. Howard obviously liked Jimmy more than Chuck and considers him as friend. The tragedy is that Jimmy never realised that Howard was the only real friend (besides Kim) he had after Marco's death. By the way it was Jimmy who started this whole thing with the insurance but he's in denial about himself being responsible as much as Howard for Chuck's death. Howard is a selfish person (just like Jimmy) but this doesn't change that Howard always wanted to be a true friend to Jimmy.

Mike wanted to have a presence at the company as if he legit worked there. He's on camera, he spoke to people, etc. The worst part of what Jimmie did with the insurance was it was malicious. In the past he did what he did for self preservation. Leaking the info to the insurance company was going to do nothing for Jimmie. It wouldn't help him in any way. It was just to F over Chuck. Who he already beat in court.

Also important to note that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is a story with an unreliable narrator, so it's just as likely that Booth got stomped or never even actually fought Lee. And watching that scene, it's entirely reasonable that Booth could have tossed Lee around like that. Lee didn't know how experienced Booth was, and he was also just using the exact same kick Booth let him land seconds ago.

Am I the only one who noticed something the normies should have noticed? Yes the obituary was well done and kudos to Howard. But it says nothing but the achievements Chuck has made through out his life..... But who is Chuck as a person? I don't only mean as we the audience viewed him so far, but as an individual. Is this all Chuck was in his life? Just accomplishments? Chuck told Jimmy while he finally admitted he did not want Jimmy to be a lawyer that he "Committed His Life to This" as in being a lawyer.... Makes you wonder how committed was he? He felt he had nothing else in his life but the law when Howard wanted him to retire, maybe because he never tried to have a life or live in the moment. Yes he was married, but why did it end? A happily and secure married man would not be jealous just because his brother knows how to tell jokes.

I'm not sure if anyone will ever read this but VERY long post incoming: What we have to realize here in the terms of big picture for Jimmy and his family. His Father role was compromised. He looked up to his Dad in the beginning, a good man who was business owner and a pillar of the community. But he was soft, too soft. He let himself be stolen from by Conmen because he always wanted to see the good in people. Learning this lesson at a young age means he shifted his center of admiration from his Father to the Conman. His father taught him never to hurt people, but the Conman taught him that you don't have to hurt people to get what you want and if they're dumb enough to fall for it, it's their own fault. Granted not the best lesson to learn but he was a child and those things carry over into adulthood. As Jimmy got older that mentality kept working for him. Because let's face it, Game of Thrones showed us a somewhat more realistic view of the world. The strong will prey on the weak and they will often win. The Universe is indifferent to morality and the bad guys will usually come out on top because being underhanded, cheating and being terrible works. Jimmy's brother Chuck then becomes his polar opposite. Upstanding, lawful and a more typically favored by the world around them and at some point Chuck takes on that Father role that's been essentially vacant since the day Jimmy learned that being a Con pays off. Jimmy get's in serious trouble, Chuck bails him out and then what we see is that Jimmy really and honestly tries to turn himself around. Of course Jimmy is still Jimmy so his way of doing things isn't always the most proper but he plays the game and he does what he can to make his brother proud. But the interesting thing here is that over that time Chuck becomes jealous of Jimmy. Jimmy has a personality, Jimmy is good at making people feel for him even to the point of their parents sometimes taking on a more favorable attitude toward their less successful son. Which Chuck then resents Jimmy for and they just go on this way. When it came to Chuck, Jimmy was willing to do the work. Take care of him, give him every opportunity. He saw Chuck as his own Father. But Chuck always saw Jimmy as a screw up, someone he had to follow around and clean up their messes and never got any praise or acclaim for it not even from his own parents. It's possible his parents worried about and therefore seemed as though they favored Jimmy more because they knew he needed more attention to keep in line while Chuck was always the confident and level headed one that was already successful. When we start the series Jimmy is trying to do things right. But being underhanded just keeps working. He pushes it, straddling the line and they tell him this many times. You can't do this or that even though it's just barely legal and would work. And for a time Jimmy tones it down. But what ends up happening is that his situation with Chuck keeps getting pushed further and further along down this spiral. Eventually Chuck flat out starts to attack Jimmy and for good reason, not saying either of them is clearly in the right here. And Jimmy takes this more and more personally. In the end being underhanded and lying works out. It may not seem this way but Jimmy won. He's alive and his brother isn't. His brother and the world beat Jimmy into submission. Jimmy knows he can't do things “the right way”. He knows it doesn't pay to be the strait arrow. The world has proven that to him time and time again. I think what we see in this episode is that Jimmy has just snapped. If the Universe is telling him to be the bad guy then fine, he'll be the bad guy. He'll lie, he'll cheat and steal his way to success because it never worked out for him before. But I digress. It wasn't fair for Jimmy to make his brother his father and it wasn't fair for Chuck to have such a deep rooted disdain and jealous for his brother. Nobody actually won here. It's just like life. Sometimes your story doesn't get told and sometimes the story that doesn't isn't the one you planned on. Overall excellent writing, just wanted to point out why Jimmy is such an ass now. He's just done with it all. Yes he could have done things differently but I think we're shown enough throughout the series that we know his view of the world is slanted because everything that was “right” turned out to be either wrong or out to get him, so why not do what he knows? Well that answer to that is in the flash forwards. We don't fully know what's going on but all this bad has finally caught up with him. Thanks for reading if you did lol

First off, Chuck killed himself. He chose to die, no one killed him. Jimmy is just done with Chuck. He doesn't want to feel anything for him good or bad. Remember, the last time they talked Chuck told Jimmy to stop feeling remorseful. That's what Jimmy is doing in regards to Chuck. Even though he hates him Chuck still has influence over Jimmy.

People who feel that Jimmy's an asshole for what he said to Howard here probably completely forgot about Jimmy and Chuck's last interaction. Chuck literally said that Jimmy didn't matter to him, and that he should stop feeling bad for everything he chooses to do. This is him doing that. Jimmy saw the first opportunity to let someone shoulder the blame and took it.

"Howard is the kind of good man that is coming to say that I killed your brother during the day of the funeral". I wouldn't call that being good, I would call that being selfish and stupid. It's interesting though this show and Breaking Bad manages to manipulate us to think the situation is something completely different than it actually is. If your brother dies and someone comes and says I caused this, and there is evidence to support it, Chuck's relapse, it would phuck up anyone big time. Jimmy isn't psychopath, he was the most caring brother anyone could hope for. Sure he had his issues, but not towards his brother before it got revealed that Chuck torpedoed Jimmy from getting job at HHM and lied about it. And at the same time he revealed that he thinks Jimmy will always be just a con-artist phuck up, and thus he robbed Jimmy's Sandpiper case from him to HHM on purpose. Still Jimmy cared about him. He is probably the most caring adult in Breaking Bad universe.
