Nice guy and undeniably a talented singer, but I just don’t hear “Robbie” in his voice at all. It feels too contemporary, the singing accent doesn't quite have that harsh American twang he sings with, and it’s missing that nasally bass and high-pitched gravelly timbre that defined early Robbie. I thought this would ruin the movie for me, but it actually worked in an unexpected way - it felt like we were hearing “Robert” sing rather than “Robbie.” The only time Robbie’s signature voice really came through was during Rock DJ, which made sense, as all that bravado was pure Robbie, not Robert.
