I’m leaning towards giving away the Logitech and getting the Wemo due to the field of view. As always, your channel has helped me more than you will ever know! Best $5 per month I’ve ever invested in my HomeKit home!

Hey Chuck, thanks so much! I appreciate the support, as always! You can probably plug in your logitech, add it to homekit and test it out prior to installing it. Hold it in the right place by the front door while plugged in to test out the field of view. Might help you in determining if you'll need the wider field of view from the wemo or if the circle view will be enough.

I want something that doesn't scream, "Hey look at this giant box mounted here that's recording as you approach the front door!". Probably needs to be part of the frame of the door; something that is inconspicuous (pinhole camera) seems like something I would buy. Just my thoughts. Great video Shane!
@FilipRadelic2 жыл бұрын
A pinhole camera (it can have a box on the inside, heck, it could even have a small display) with HKSV would be great accessory. It could come with a separate button for the doorbell. That would probably sell too good to be able to make them.

Great video. It helped me decide between the Wemo and the Logitech for my new home that I’m making 100% Homekit compatible. Thanks for another thorough review. I’ve had the Circleview installed for about 8 months. It’s in the shade (house faces north) but it was still a pain at first. After the firmware update, it was much better. Now we are reaching the low 80’s and it has gone off line a few times, so I’m worried about it’s viability. That, and it is always hot to the touch. Visitors complain about it. So the WEMO looks like a decent alternative, should the Logitech fail. I don’t like the WEMO camera, but if it stays on… 🤷♂️ Thanks for a great channel.

SHANE. You missed one BIG question… How is the motion detection??? For when people do not ring the doorbell???
@ShaneCreates3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jeff. Thanks for the question. Do you mean how well it works? Regarding automations, etc? I don't like to run motion automations with the camera motion sensor on the front porch because it would trigger (lights for example) every time the wind blows a leaf by or a car passes. It has been very good at detecting the motion to start recordings. ALMOST always my recordings show before the door is even opened when someone is leaving and it picks up people usually before they even start heading up the stairs when coming home.
@jeffpixelated3 жыл бұрын
@@ShaneCreates Motion detection as a whole. Like if some attempts to steal a package on my porch, the doorbell will alert me as soon as the motion was detected at the end of my driveway (25-30 ft?) or at least halfway up whatever zone I create. That’s my biggest reason for a video doorbell is to thwart any possible criminal activity. Because you know criminals stealing packages are not going to ring my video doorbell.

Two HomeKit specific questions: 1) if you have two cameras that pick up the same subject, will you get multiple notifications? Like if someone walks up to your house in one view, and than goes to the doorbell in another. Will i end up with rapid successive notifications? 2) Does a motion detection subject have to enter fully into the zone to be triggered, or will HomeKit figure out a car has entered your driveway zone if only the the front bumper is inside but the rest of the vehicle is included in the field of view?
@ShaneCreates2 жыл бұрын
1. Yes but you can turn off notifications to any cameras, so just turn off notifications on the ones you don't want notifications for. 2. I'm really haven't tested this so I can't say for sure. I have my doorbell camera set to NOT record vehicles.

I’ve been wanting to pull the trigger on a doorbell camera for a LONG time but really don’t want to regret my decision so I want to make sure what I purchase will be something I’m going to be happy with. What do you recommend between Logitech Circle View, Wemo, Nest + Hoobs, Ring + Hoobs or other options? My camera location doesn’t get a lot of sunlight so that plays well for the Circle View but I do live in a hot/humid part of the country. I’ve heard the Circle View does have connection loss issues. Wemo sounds good but I’m not sure about the fisheye lens. I have a bright light above my front porch I will program to turn on when the doorbell senses motion at night. Do the Nest or Ring with Hoobs display the camera on an AppleTV if someone is at the door? What doorbell option do you recommend given my situation? Appreciate your help! Sorry about the long message!
@ShaneCreates2 жыл бұрын
Hey Marcus, thanks for the support. If HomeKit is a priority, then I personally prefer native homekit over the Hoobs or homebridge solutions for a doorbell camera. They will still display on the Apple TV. I made a video using Nest and Ring with Hoobs you can check out if you haven't already. It works well, but I find native homekit to be a little more responsive. If you're not crazy about the fisheye lens, and you don't get a lot of direct sunlight, I'd probably go with the Logitech. The biggest reasons to go with the Wemo is if you get a lot of direct sunlight and/or you want that wider field of view. Hope this helps. Good luck!

It's a tough call. Just be completely sure you still don't get direct sunlight, if worried about that, at any point of the day. It might still be possible depending which direction your house faces, trees, etc. Although I miss the better image quality from the Circle View, the field of view does make a difference for me. It didn't happen a lot, but occasionally (as clearly seen in the video) a delivery driver would drop a package out of the field of view from the Circle View. I've enjoyed the Circle View, but if this thing continues to perform well, maintains a good connection, etc. over time, it will probably stay there.

Both have worked fine in my experience. I do think the speaker is a little louder on the Wemo, making it a little easier to understand when communicating through the doorbell.

Hi Shane. Do you mind sharing what network equipment (router/access points) you use at home? I noticed with the Wemo footage in your video that there was a good bit of Pixelation when people were moving and your Circle View footage had none of that. My Circle View has the same pixelation problem as your Wemo and I’m wondering if a change in network equipment could fix it. Appreciate the thorough review on this Product including the installation footage.

Is the build in NFC used for anything? (Besides attaching it to Homekit) Is it possible Apple could update it to work with Apple Home Key? To give non-Home Key (but Homekit) locks Home Key capabilities?
@ShaneCreates3 жыл бұрын
Good question. I suppose it is possible. You can actually use the nfc currently to trigger a shortcut. But it still also triggers the "add device to homekit" popup card... or in this case "device already added," which could be annoying.

Hey Shane. I love your videos and thanks for keeping us informed. I have a quick question. I have a Logitech Circle Video Doorbell and it rocks for me. I love it. But I can't figure out how to have my IPhone make a doorbell sound when someone pushes the doorbell button. Do you know how or if it is even possible? Thanks. Mark H

Hey thanks for watching Mark. I don't think that is possible. You can get notifications from the Home app when someone presses the doorbell, but I think that's it on the iPhone.

How is the detection? We’re there any missed faces or anything or slow recording when someone runs towards the door?

I purchased this device in June 2022. The first one stopped working, and I went through all the reset options noted on the site. When calling customer service, they had me go through all of them again. Nothing. The representative then asked that I go out shopping for some cables to try to charge the battery, even though it is a wired bell. I declined this suggestions, and was ultimately sent a replacement. As to the device itself, overall it is below expectations. Installation and set up were simple. It is also integrated in the Home app, which was the draw for me. Functionally, the device leaves much to be desired. It notifies me on some (about 70% of the time) people and some (about 30% of the time) vehicles. Facial recognition is accurate, generously, 5% of the time. I also get repeated package notifications when nothing is there, and none when there is one there.

You're at about two months of use, has your opinion changed any? Google reviews complain about a lot of little things like blurry tile in HomeKit, video quality, and motion sensitivity .
@ShaneCreates2 жыл бұрын
My opinion is pretty much the same. Video quality is not great. Logitech is better there. Field of View is very good but you have the fisheye effect. Same as in the video. Recording motion has been good.

Shane, thanks for the review. Couldn’t tell for sure from the video, but It looks as though the Wemo does NOT provide the light (LUX) sensor that is provided by the Circle View and can be used in automations. Is this correct? I currently have the Circle View and have definitely had some of the heat and other related issues with my install location. For this reason I’m lookin forward to a June/July follow-up. Also, in my Circle View installation the motion sensor is no good for use in automations because it is too sensitive and has no sensitivity adjustment. Also, I don’t believe the motion sensor even uses the activity zones set. This means that when a small breeze blows the trees in front of my house, I get a motion activation. Does the Wemo have a sensitivity setting for the motion sensor? Overall, I have been very disappointed with the Logitech Circle View due to it dropping to No Response or totally off frequently even in these cooler temperatures with no direct sun whatsoever. So yeah, looking forward to a later follow up. Thanks!
@ShaneCreates3 жыл бұрын
Good point. You are correct, the wemo does not expose the light sensor to homekit. There is one built in, so I suppose it could be added in a firmware update one day, but currently doesn't. You cannot modify the sensitivity settings of the motion sensor on this one either. The settings are pretty much the exact same as the Logitech, since they both work exclusively in HomeKit, and don't use any other apps.

Cameras will most likely not support thread for streaming or recording. Ever. Cameras require too much bandwidth to do this over thread.

what would be awesome would be i companies like amazon, or UPS and local authorities were to wear a badge of some sort with a QR code that the doorbells can recognize and announce to assure its a real authority or employee and not a scammer or thief posing as someone to break in.

I've got a Ring 2 that I've been holding off installing, thinking that I could get a HomeKit enabled doorbell for this house. Looks like either the less secure Logitech Circle or this more expensive, with lesser video quality are my choices. I wish there were more than 2 options at this point. Hey April, thanks for the support. My thoughts are the same as in the video still. Both seem to pick up motion well. I know the Circle View was very good at that. It would pick up motion and record even when someone was walking down the street, on the other side of the street. I haven’t noticed if the Wemo does that good at picking up motion from that far, but does seem to capture all the motion from people coming in and out of the house and in and out of the yard.
