I have well over a dozen Chifi IEMS including the OG Monarch, Clairvoyance, FH3, Voyager 3, Legacy 3, Olina, Mele, TFZ Live 3, Blons 03, Blon 05, TC-01, Urbanfun to name a few. The only IEM that has ever been silibant is the S12. The S's are horrible on the S12. Luckly I bought it on Amazon and returned it. I did try diffrent tips and cables. The DACS tested were M6 Pro, Q1, R3 Pro Sabre and Asus STX running Jriver. I can say the Clarity on the S12 is top notch but for me the siblance just killed it. I did EQ the bass on the S12 and it is very responsive. End of the day I am not going to EQ IEM's. I have too many IEMS and DACS to mess around with EQ. I'll have to wait for another sub $150 Planar. Possibly the Crinicle X coming out will be better for me.

I'm with you. When the Z12's came out and I hear Zeos talking about how they added some sub bass, I was excited...then I was sure he would next say "and we turned the treble a bit as the S12's were a bit too much"..but alas it wasn't to be. He left everything else untouched - and I think they lost a lot of potential sales because of it.

If you could get your hands on it, I really recommend the Nicehck DB1 as an alternative to the CRA. It's like a more tamed CRA, still leans more towards Bright and mild v shaped but because they smooth out the treble and bass, Vocals comes across a lot better than the CRA.
@hammerfall66662 жыл бұрын
how about the soundstage and the imaging? is it good on Nicehck DB1?
@ThNamesAL2 жыл бұрын
@@hammerfall6666 For the price that they're at I would say the Imaging is good maybe slightly above average compared to others (I can still pin point things just fine) and soundstage is average at best, don't get me wrong it's still wide but nothing too special. Imo for sets that are priced around $15 (I got mine for less in my country) having average soundstage and imaging is good enough for me, because other than something like the CRA or the Quarks, most are meh in those departments. Detail retrieval maybe slightly behind the CRA but that could be because the CRA is slightly brighter, still for the price it's great.

shorter/wider bore tips fix the CRA for me. the deeper fit and the wider bore clear the sibilance and the treble that can get a bit piercing now it performs well enough that it's a toss up whether I pick it or the FH3. CRA has better overall tuning and timbre, but FH3 has the edge in bass quality and extra details/technicalties could see a reworked CRA that comes stock the way I'm hearing it that sold for $80 (comparing the FH3 @ $130)

Man I bought the CCA a couple of years ago, intending to give them away to somebody who doesn't care much about sound and it was so bad all over that I've be embarrassed to do so; I've had some 20-dollar Sennheisers two decades ago and they were utterly mediocre, but never with such murky bass, hugely unbalanced sound, unnatural midrange and that downright painful sibilance - which of course doesn't respond to EQ. So while I'll always say that no, they're not even worth their price, at least this is the first review that I've seen which describes their sound accurately enough. This is significant because my experience with the CCA was so horrible that I felt gaslighted by the raving reviewers, and since it was the only "chi fi" product I ever got, I got really apprehensive about buying a more expensive one, thinking all reviews must be paid promotion or something. So now I'm thinking of buying, say, the Dunu Titan S that you reviewed positively and my next step was to look if you reviewed the CCA and what you said about it to see if you sound trustworthy. You passed, I guess.
