We have a 2021 20XG Cross Trek (name was changed to Cross Trail for 2022) that we have lived in full time since March of 2021. We really like the overall size, the power of the EcoBoost engine, and the big garage area. It was almost half the cost of an Ekko when we bought ours, and the Ekko was not available then. The fit and finish of the interior could have been better on the inside, but we like the amount of storage for the size of the rig, but one feature missing was drawers for clothes. We supplemented the window blinds with reflectix panels cut so they press to fit inside the window frames which helps control heat and cold from the large number of windows. The windows provide good air flow with the windows and door open. We also put MaxAir vent fans in the vents over the kitchen and bedroom areas for even more ventilation. Would have been nice if they came that way from the factory. While the AC will run off the batteries (ours are 400 amp hours of AGM), it won't run for long on the batteries. While not really designed to handle winter weather it can handle temps a little below freezing for brief periods with a heat duct keeping the water tank warm and heat pads on the grey and black tanks. This was how ours came from the factory. The 3 way fridge needs to be replaced with an all electric compressor type. Nova Cool makes a model that is supposed to fit in the same space. We will probably replace ours sometime in the future. The fridge in the unit can not keep inside temps below 40 F when it is really hot out or at high altitude. Not having a thermostat control also means if you aren't watching and making adjustments you can freeze food in the fridge in milder temps. These are problems with all absorption (propane) style RV refrigerators. The electrical system has been a little bit of a disappointment. Coachmen ordered the unit from Ford with dual alternators which can supply plenty of power for charging while driving, but because the Ford system uses both alternators as part of their SRC (smart regenerative charging) system the house batteries don't get charged as fast as they could or should given the amps the dual alternator system can provide. If anyone has a good solution for this problem, we would like to know what they did. One other item missing for us were 12 volt outlets. These are important for us since we try to stay strictly 12 volt as much as possible when not able to plug in to shore power. The 3000 watt inverter draws a fair amount on its own. So we want to leave it off if we don't have an electrical hookup for multiple days at a time. We solved this problem by adding some 12 volt outlets ourselves. The solar setup is nice - 380 watts on the roof with the option for another 190 watt panel mounted on top plus the port by the door for connecting additional portable panels. Our understanding is the portable panels would need their own controller since the port is wired directly to the batteries. The bed system has adjustable stops for setting max up and down positions. We set ours to go all the up close to the ceiling. When raised all the way up I can just stand underneath - I'm 5'10'. In bed mode (lowered) we can sit up on the bed and use it as a lounge space sometimes during the day. You can even watch the large TV up front while on the bed. For storage we put 3 sets of shelves, all 3' high around the back to make better use of the space for storage. In addition to camp chairs, hoses, electrical cords, and the miscellaneous items needed for camping, we store an inflatable kayak and two folding electric bikes under the bed. This all stays in place whether the bed is up or down. We also solved the problem of no drawers for clothes with an ottoman with drawers in it that is in the storage area as well. It also gives us a place to sit at the Lagun table we mounted back there as well. Nice to have two separate living spaces during the day, and a place to work on projects.

@ericolsen14383 жыл бұрын
@@victw1 While it would be nice to have access to get out from either side of the bed, just not possible in this size RV without giving up something else. We have adjusted. We really like the size of the RV for travel. Almost all of the rest areas we stop at along major freeways have parking spaces large enough for us to park with the cars instead of in the truck parking areas. The person who gets up the most during the night or first in the morning sleeps on the side with easy access. We are used to it now. There is a heat vent in the garage area under the bed, and because we keep our bed high enough to store bikes underneath even while sleeping we stay warm without any problems. In really hot weather (110 F outside) it is a little warmer than we like for napping during the day even with the AC on before we replaced the vent above the bed. We replaced the small vent fan above the bed as well as the one above the dinette with MaxAir vent fans, and that helped a lot with heat control. It was an easy swap since the hole in the roof is the same size for both.

This is not for overlanding or anything like it. More like traveling during foul weather. Not so much competition for the EKKO as much as just copying it. Why are they putting a propane fridge in an RV met to get off grid? It isn't as efficient as a 12V DC fridge.

Two features i like most are the large back storage under bed and the propane/lithium batteries placed outside which only you have to enclose to avoid dust/mud debris. Back storage can be useful to add washer/drier, charging e-bikes, keep motorbike, camp tent/accessories, kayak, skateboard, etc. You may upgrade anything like additional solar panels, etc. Very nice RV innovations!!

O...M...G! A rear door, right in the middle of the back wall, like on the 21XG, would be HEAVEN! Long items could then be "passed through", under the bed into the cabin area. (Things like Kayaks, skies, lumber, etc). This would make this vehicle REALLY useful as a cargo van as much as a camper van.
@esthers57723 жыл бұрын
I am stunned! This is very impressive. It ticks almost all boxes for me. Likes are too many to list. Top 3 would be the multiple power sources (I love propane for fridges), garage and split bath. I prefer the 21XG layout b/c I don't need that huge garage. I got SO excited about the 2" lift on the AWD Transit and all of the lithium on-board...but the batteries aren't insulated from the elements, so this is not much closer to a four-season rig. That defeats the purpose b/c lithium HATES cold. SUCH a bummer. Ditch the big propane, add protection for the plumbing and lithium, and I would be putting my deposit down on that! The Ekko is having way too many issues, and Coachmen could leave it in the dust! Four-season the Cross Trail!

Coachmen, a few areas improvement: Make fridge a 12v compressor (much more efficient), AC 12v ( so you don’t need to run your inverter), insulate the lithium battery compartment (or they won’t charge in cold temps) and, last but not least, stop cutting costs and use the Ford chassis with HID headlights.
@Nomad33fw58FS3 жыл бұрын
Why does Coachmen insist on putting a horrible RV fridge into an RV with Li and 380 watts of solar on the roof? This RV should have a 12 volt fridge. I know it is something easy to swap out after purchase, but then you end up with the stupid cooling vents (pest holes) on the side of the RV. Coachmen needs to offer this with a 12volt option without the vent panels.
@kellywysknowski53552 жыл бұрын
Its ok, but if your comparing it to the Ekko, then I'm afraid this cross trail falls short. The Ekko has many ways to keep batteries charged, it's all wheel drive, lots more interior storage than the cross trail. It has the 4 season set up on it so you can rv in most winter climates. The garage on the cross trail I must admit is much bigger than the ekko, but that's it. Not a big fan of the batteries being exposed to the road. I'm not 100 percent sure but I don't think the water pipes for the cross trail are inside the cabin, like the ekko, which helps significantly with minimizing freezing in colder weather.

I was in love with the Cross Trek 20XG in the 2020 model year. I lost interest when they went to the movable bed. It introduces one more thing to fail, and if your goal is to lower the bed down far enough to easily get in and out, you have to take everything out of the garage (or most everything). And that would be an issue if you were Lot Docking.

Love the bathroom, solar, lithium, renogy battery BMS, big garage.. Dislikes that add up To a general feeling of Cheapness: no slam latch doors, no dual pane windows, cheap window coverings- no blackout, vinyl cover hanging under the bed, no way to lock the cabinets, no cabinet struts, no 12v tv, nowhere to charge or lay anything while you are in bed, no clothes storage near bed, no cassette, outdated forced air furnace. I think it is a step In the right direction.. but still is a conventional class with a couple bells and whistles added to make it seem like it competes with an ekko or something similar. But the execution isn’t great. Livability would not be great.. I think someone from coachmen needs to go out off grid and live in this unit and all the shortcomings will become obvious.. the furnace alone is enough to turn me off. I refuse to attempt to fall asleep with a jet engine clicking on and off in my ear.

We added Reflextic panels that press into the window frames. These help solve the lack of double pane glass and black out the windows. The plentiful and large opening windows are nice for getting air circulating. The cabinets all have magnetic catches that hold them closed - never had a problem with a cabinet coming open even on the worst dirt and gravel roads. We also removed the vinyl cover from under the bed. Not sure why they put it on. It doesn't look that much better than it does with it off.

Thanks for the vid! Lot's of complaints in comments about not having a 12 volt compressor fridge, but if a person is on the Northern West Coast where the sun might not shine for two weeks at a time, propane will be looking pretty good. The exposed lithium batteries is a concern though. Rep did mention they were good to zero degrees, but was that in celsius or Fahrenheit?? I get the other complaints about single pane windows, etc, but if it's 60/70k less $ than EKKO, you can't really expect it to be on par with the full-on four season EKKO, right? Winnebeggo makes a good product, but also think price wise, they are little too proud!!

The rear compartment doors are larger than cross trek. Looks like a large recumbent trike will fit easily. With the ability to charge in place. Does need to be able to take cold weather , no go as is.

Needs a generator to be more autonomous. Also truma water heater and black tank masserator for 4G$ more it would be way better for the X factor.

@@strangerpalooza It REALLY bugs me that these manufacturers don't update their own websites! How hard can that be?! You cannot see that there is an "extreme package" nor the different paint/color choices for 2022. That is the EASIEST advertising when people are comparing this to Thor's Compass/Gemini and the WGO EKKO.
@liorajacob80943 жыл бұрын
The Coachmen website has not even been updated to include the lithium batteries! Only AGM are noted. Same for rigs available on dealer websites. Would love to know cost with the lithium system. Although this is a strictly warm-weather RV without any battery insulation.

Very nice if it was available with the transit 3.2 fuel efficient diesel and adaptive cruise control I would buy one

Totally agree. The fuel economy of the diesel is superior. Thus we went to the Sprinter 4 X4 for ours.

It would have been nice to see what kind of clearance it has because you know how them back roads can be whether it's a all-wheel drive or not if you don't have the clearance what good is it?

No it’s not, the interior is too cheap. I will give coachmen credit i was in the market for a 2022 cross trail 20xg and the 2023 model looks much better on the inside when it comes to materials. This floor plan to me is perfect and their electrical system options worked for me too but pressing on cardboard walls just didn’t work for me.

The garage concept is cool, but the overall quality looks pretty low and probably meant as an entry level type unit which is fine. In comparison, the Winnebago Ekko is more premium with higher quality construction and materials.
@liorajacob80943 жыл бұрын
Not sure if Ekko owners would agree with you... There is currently a hold on deliveries and a recall for a major shower pan leakage issue. And owners are reporting lots of other things not working and needing repair. I gather this is par for the course for a new RV model but it's still disappointing considering the price point (starting at $175,000)
@gransport42463 жыл бұрын
@@liorajacob8094 all brand new from the ground up products will have some birthing pains, and I’m positive these issues will be addressed as quickly as possible. In the end, it’s still a more premium product vs. an entry level product at a lower price. Overall it should and/or will be a better value with better quality materials.

I own a Greenspeed Magnum XL recumbent Trike. Check out the HP Velotechnik Scorpion fs. These two models and others are able to be wheeled into this wonderful garage WITHOUT having to be folded down! A real premium feature. Bikes can also fit in with them. The Europeans have been ahead of us by incorporating this feature into many of their different RV designs. Congratulations for seeing the light.

I was just thinking that this would be perfect for my Scorpion fs 26, but the build issues and lack lack of 4 season insulation have me thinking about a Bigfoot 25 foot travel trailer and storing the trike in the pickup bed once again.

I like the “adjustable” storage capabilities in the rear under the bed. However, a queen size bed would really be nice for full sized adults… Personally I’d put more “weight” on bed size than bathroom space as most folks spend more time in the bed than bathroom… Also I’d eliminate the propane and be totally electric.

My whole reason for a newer Class C is I hate having to climb over my wife to get into bed. I like the split bath but would want the door hinges moved so the door would provide privacy to someone getting out of the shower.

I was totally into this until I found the only dealer within 500 miles was one I had visited looking at a different brand and they were awful to deal with. So that an ixnay on Coachmen for me. Also - if you are gonna split the bathroom like that, its a seriously missed opportunity to hang the door the reverse of they did so that when opened it spans the "hallway" at the kitchen side. That would give whoever is doing their routine a whole private area to do that while the travel partner has the rest of the place to roam around in. Also - if a partner is sleeping (late riser, afternoon nap, etc) they can set the door to give them something of a barrier from the awake partner.
