Good work , I appreciate your efforts!question unrelated to garage band…Are you by chance related to Gregg Braden? Scientist and musician …if no,he has tons of videos on KZbin,I enjoy his work,your voice,image and mannerism are almost identical …check him out…the right age to be your father…I would not be surprised if he is….It was driving me nuts…thinking where do I know this man from…an hour later I figured it out….thank you for the garage band classes !!!.👍🏻👍🏻

Great advice Colin. Proximity distance is really interesting. Must check out different distances and review the EQ differences on the analyser. By the way, congrats on finishing the GB course. Awesome achievement. Enjoyed it thoroughly and pick up loads of tricks and tips.

Absolutely! Variation in proximity effect ended up being something I had to address in the mix for the course, actually! And thank you! Working on the bonus courses now and can't wait to get this bad boy reopened to the world

Great advice. Some time back I got the Scarlet Solo Studio Bundle and it's a really good deal for getting started. The headphones are quite good for the price, the condenser mic is also quite good for the price and XLR cable is included. I also bought a boom mic stand, a Shure pop filter and a Shure SM58. Good starting point without spending a lot. Focusrite is not paying me to say this :)

Very helpful...I always fiddle with the pop filter a fair bit trying to get it to stand straight (i.e. vertically), but I'm gonna give it a go the way you demonstrated...btw, I believe it's the "fourth wall" you'd be breaking down, ha.

How do you feel about recording vocals with the sm58? It took forever to dial it in but I've been getting amazing results using one.

You can ABSOLUTELY get a great vocal recording with an SM58. It depends on the vocalist and the room AND what you are most comfortable with. I've heard of huge names who liked to record with a 58 because they were most comfortable. How do you set yours up to get the best results?

@@TheBandGuide gain at about 12 o'clock, 80hz high pass, small cut between 400hz and 600hz, a small boost at 1k and a roll off at around 15k and medium compression to balance the levels. Comes through clear and full.
