I bought a watch repair kit from Walmart. It was only 10 dollars and came with the proper tool for this and the tools to remove links from the band. I figured it was worth it since I own multiple watches

As long as it's a basic quartz watch with a back that is the same size as the watch face. If it's a "minimalist" style watch with the back being smaller than the face you have to use compressed air through the crown hole to pop the crystal out. Which sometimes can be done by using a piece of painters tape as a seal with a pin hole for air to get through and then holding a ball pump needle against it. But I wouldn't do that for an expensive watch. The jewelers knife is the tool you use to pry off the back. It looks like a knife but when you touch the blade you find it's not sharp, so you won't injure yourself or damage the watch with it. If you have never completely disassembled a watch before you should probably watch a video on quartz watch disassembly and assembly. You will need to identify the crown release on the movement for your specific watch. After you get the face out be careful not to damage the hands. Make sure they aren't bent to where they could hit each other when you reassemble.

@@giovanidiamonds it's got nothing to do with the price of the watch. the method he shows takes considerably longer than doing the job properly, it's much messier than doing the job properly and it wouldn't even work on watches that have even an average level of water resistance. The guy hasn't got a clue.

If it's screwed, get a rubber ball. They are often used for this purpose. If it snaps off, you use a case knife. If used properly, it will not slip

Not all watches will have backplates that pop on so easily. A neat trick, to be sure, but as a guy who replaces watch batteries for a living, I have to say, if you're not the the type that is comfortable with learning new technical skills and getting some tools for said skills, definitely just take your watches to someone else who knows what the hell they're doing. I even have a watch I'm taking to a jeweler...

The reason why you would never want to take your watch back off this way is because when you spin it off. the inside cut out for the stem is in place where the stem is. When you twist the back that cut out twist up to your stem and break it off. Dont do it Bad idea.

The amount of times I’ve used hot glue to remove parts that would otherwise require prying is crazy… small plastic panels inside cars etc. A drip of ipa after removes the glue instantly.

The problem with these videos is obviously this only works on loose backs already. This would never and I mean NEVER work on a watch that’s legitimately stuck. So yes 100% this is a solution for someone who has a watch back on snug but overkill as they likely don’t even need this. But someone legitimately with a stuck on bsck it’s just not going to work. Not even 2 part epoxy would do it this easily. So the ppl who actually need the solution won’t find it and those with a less complicated situation though might still find this useful though there’s even less invasive ways at that point

Drilled 2 1/4 holes and used 2 chromoly bolts and and fit it in a vice, the bolts snapped!!!!! Stop the crack! Does not work.

There is a groove on the inside of many case backs to allow clearance for the crown. If you're lucky, you'll break your crown while you're at it with this method kids!
