RIP Alistair Down NH racing has lost one of its finest advocates. Fitting tribute by Cheltenham last week to name the press room in his name. Horse racing has lost one the greatest journalists who the ability to speak and write about the sport with such passion.

I remember reading Mr, Downs reports and would marvel at the eloqunince of his writing and prose, A truly unique talent i would suggest the likes of which I believe there are few if any equals,TRULY UNIQUE,

Met Alastair many times at Cheltenham. He was as he said - a man of the people. No airs or graces and would always have a chat and treat all people alike. RIP Alastair. We’ll never see your likes again - as he said in these interviews, the Racing Post’s focus now is betting and not proper quality, passionate descriptive journalism. I laugh now when I see the people at the Racing Post who are ‘winning awards’ these days.
