A vitamin pill with legs, indeed! Despite a hideously difficult life, a consummate and multi-talented artist, she gave a grateful nation (and world) the gift of laughter during very dark times - through to today.

This beautiful, classic and fun song truly belongs only to Betty Hutton. I own this song on CD! I was born in 1978. Thank you for posting and sharing this! Betty Hutton is one my favorite actress, singers, dancers and entertainers! Her fame has stood the test of time! Betty Hutton made many classic movies! The 1950 MGM classic movie Annie Get Your Gun, 1950 Let's Dance, 1944 Miracle of Morgan's Creek, 1945 The Stork Club, 1943 Let's Face it! 1943 Happy Go Lucky, 1944 Here Come the Waves, 1945 Incendiary Blonde, and 1952 The Greatest Show on Earth.

I saw her in person at the Palace in New York. She came on from the back of the theater and it was touching to see how nervous she was before going on. I was a wanna-be entertainer myself at the time.

Poor Betty’s mental problems really messed up her life, the older she got. Some people can channel their inner turmoil into frantic comedy, as she did, and Robin Williams as well. Unfortunately the problems are still there.

I love Betty too!! In fact I love the whole era from 1930-1950+ with amazing music, stars and style. But Betty Hutton is just too fantastic for words. It's too bad she was given so little respect by paramount. When Betty was loaned to MGM for AGYG, to replace Judy Garland, she was treated horribly. From what I have read, Betty was never allowed to forget about Judy and just be herself. And yet I consider her performance in AGYG the best thing she ever did.
@davidmedlar29377 жыл бұрын
wow ! I cannot believe her name isn't iconic & household ...jeez, but competing w/ Judy explains a lot :( 10 or 20 yrs later & she would've been as big as Goldie Hawn ...imagine her as Chrissy Snow on 3's Company !

I am right with ya on the era and genre, my fave is Gable,Blondell, both Powells, Lombard, Crawford,Davis,Warren William, Eddie G.R, Sinatra,Martin, All of MGM,RKO, FOX, Hollywood from the 30's and 40's with Irving Thalberg and Louis B. callin the shots!

Betty introduced this song in the 1943 film "Happy Go Lucky" -- but her explosive version inexplicably did not become a hit. That's amazing -- as this tune seems custom written to match her energetic style. Incredibly, the song instead became a hit for far more low-key, honey-voiced Dinah Shore (Victor 1525). The tune came back in 1945 when it became the title theme of a Fred MacMurray comedy -- in which neither Dinah nor Betty appeared.

I LOVE Betty Hutton. I wish I could have met her. She looks like a doll. Making love to Betty would have been like making love to a wildcat! She had wild boundless ENERGY! I love everything about Betty! I suppose in real life she was Some Package! Bob Osbourne interviewed Betty, what suprised me is we share a Faith! It was not Betty's fault that Judy G had had to quit. Betty stands up against Howie "Anything you can do I can do better" Keel- And PROVES it. This Clip Rocks and the song Kicks!
