Hanna, I just wanted to say that you have everything I look for in a reactor. You pay attention to every part of the video: the visual, the lyrics, the song, the plot. Many just say “I don’t know what’s happening” and leave it at that. You actually try (and succeed) to understand. I know that it’s not easy, so I really appreciate your effort. 💜💜 Regarding this particular video, you can find similar themes in the lyrics of the song The Truth Untold, in the ON MV (not the Kinetic Manifesto) and in the Singularity MV that you already saw. Also, you should definitely watch the performance at the BBMA 2018, maybe a fancam so you can hear the fanchants. They had to mute them in the broadcast because armys were too laud ahaha. You and Me this MV is BU, and the connection with the song itself and the mask is kind of what you say but putting those girls like their fake love as you saw in the first teaser the magic shop gave them something exchange of their fear/ trauma that are represented on the objects they gave, they were given stuff that they can calm them in this case were the girls. So they gave them stuff that represented them. And those situations were just fake cuz at the end they were just trying to run away of their reality using someone ( in these case the girls ) even in the notes is hinted when jhope say that his friend looks like his mother even tho he doesn't remember how his mother looks. So he was just putting his friend as his mother to not feel alone and not have that trauma so when he saw that she might go away ( cuz she will live overseas ) he tried to avoid it cuz he can't accept that. So in the MV that's represented of him in that room of the carnival like nothing happened but jk is telling him that's fake giving him the chocolate bars ( meaning the reality that his mother left him and he still not over it ) that's why jhope is trying to avoid it but at the end he fell into his trauma again. With the others is the same. So in other words jk is trying to save the members in the fantasy they put themselves to run away from their problem using those people ( the girls ) and that includes jin cuz thanks to him that happened , Jin is responsible of that fake happiness aka fake love that the members are living. But he realize it was fake when all exploded meaning that again everyone went down in Jin's case the girl got hit by the car. So yeah is like the dream like representation of the members realizing that they are living a fantasy , a fake love in order to scape from their issues , they put a mask aka a persona. So at the end they eliminate that mask to show their true selfs. So as the song and the concept for the whole era , is about them realizing that you can't live your life or love others if you can't love yourself. They realize they were pretending with these people to be happy when they weren't good with themselves so that love / friendship they got with those girls was fake so in this song they realize of that cuz of jk ( cuz he later can have some abilities after that car accident ). That's why jin couldn't make the flower bloom ( meaning be happy an feel love ) in a dream ( the reality that he created when he Tim traveled ) that can't come true ( cuz even with that time traveled his friends still have issue so is he ). So jk realize of that when he see the petals "alive " when the members realize that was a fantasy, meaning only that ( accepting themselves), they can actually give true love. So the flower means more true love , that's also hinted in the song that came after in the album called the truth untold , that you can tell were the whole flower reference came , which is from that Italian tale, that's referred in the truth untold. ( that whole album is so well put together).

Please read: The video got blocked because of the last scene in the extended Version of Fake Love, so I had to cut it out in order to be able to upload it. I did however watch that scene. Edit: I realise that I didn't say it in the video, but I later understood that they are all in a room that represents their trauma/their fear/their darkness. Namjoon in a room that represents him growing up poor with that mirror (being afraid to look at yourself, because you don't love yourself/don't think you're worth anything)?, Yoongi in that burnt room with the piano representing his trauma of not being able to play the piano again because his mother died in a fire, Jimin in that room that looks like it's water damaged and the sink as well (him trying to kill himself in the bathtub), Hoseok in the room with the locked door and all those children's toys and snickers bars (symbolising him not being able to escape the trauma of his childhood, being left by his mother at that fair). Jin in the room with the six windows (his biggest fear being his friends dying/being unhappy?). I just didn't get V's room with all the cell phones...

Taehyung's fear should be his father and the domestic abuse he and his sister face. But in the HYYH storyline... Tae called Joon after he might or might not stab his father. In the Wings short film Reflection, Joon tried to enter the phone both but fail. In Stigma Tae ask the police officer if he can make a call... so I think the phone link Tae and Joon. A little basic info: Tae had no one to care for him, no one to look upto. Except Namjoon. Joon used to get him out of police station after he caught on doing graffiti ( the reason why in Stigma Tae tried to call Joon in the police station), Tae sometime spend night in Joon's container house... So Tae always rely on him to not to leave his side, but some misunderstanding happen (in notes) and Tae thought Joon is tired of him, tired of taking care of him. So Joon not picking up the phone seems to Tae that Joon don't care anymore and that is his biggest fear. Kinda confusing, but it's just my theory. P.S. In Save me webtoon, Joon not picking up Tae's phone lead to a disaster.

Make sure to watch the making of Fake Love. I was so amazed when I watched that. Fake Love was a turning point for BTS, in my opinion. It introduced the songs that came after that and a whole new different era, different genre that BTS hadn’t played with before. It really is a masterpiece and such a good song. This song is entirely based on ones self. The relationship that you have with yourself. Jin saving his friends is the time travel and still about friendship. The storyline crosses paths and is focused on them and their own personal mental health, and life. That’s the big picture, it’s just them going through life making decisions and evolving as people, it starts with Jin trying to find a way in which they all end up happy. People tend to over think it, but it’s more about what the journey means and the journey itself than the details of where its going:)

These MVs aren’t so much abt confronting your trauma as it is they tried to “apply bandaids to bullet holes” (Jimin turns off the tap to stop the water, Suga boards up the fireplaces, Hobi locks himself away) but then their traumas came back at them full force (even more water rushes in from the vents, a huge burst of fire erupts from the middle of Suga’s room, Hobi gets engulfed by snickers). They’re trying to run from their pain without actually dealing with it (think abt what Magic Shop is again and the highlight reels w/ the girls, and generally the entire theme of this era…and the title of this song 👀😂) I’m trying to explain without spoiling anything (so I definitely can’t tell you how this ties in with the larger storyline either) but i suggest reacting to serendipity and DNA (esp the lyrics) to understand how we got to FAKE LOVE (and Singularity) 😭😭

when you said you feel like a puppet on a string that reminded me that if you watch the dance practice you can see that there are some dance moves that symbolize the puppets when you cut their strings. also in one of their live performances. Great reaction! Love this song and the whole era! And this MV is art! I followed through the whole storyline but as always everyone could understand this song as he wants. For me, this song is not exactly about love to someone but more about them all sacrificing their real selves with their own shadows in order to stay idols under the masks. So when they give away these objects (chocolate and others), they get back the allowance to stay in the masks. Also there is another ending at another MV or a teaser (I don't remember where for sure) when there is a brick falling on them while they are standing all together covered with masks. That moment means to me a lot. It feels like they realize they cant stay under masks forever in order not to be crushed at the end and that they decided to start showing us more of themselves from that moment, though as idols, we all know, they cant be as open as they want to as long as they continue their career in a band. So for me this song is also about their inner struggle between them as idols and them as real people. Still it could mean something completely different, but it is just my point of view. I just fallow them for long and really see them changing slowly and starting to be more open in their behavior in programs and interviews starting with the era of fake love)

I just want to add on- The story scenes in the video is also linked to their other song called truth untold- the flower is the truth untold, a ugly truth you can't reveal hence you can't be true to yourself and your lover, when the flower disappears it means the truth has been revealed now and everything is crashing down, all the pretty lies they molded for their toxic "love" is melting, in the end it was all fake love because you didn't love yourself first before Loving another human :)

So, before we start I just want to say that I LOVE all their rock remixes (Spring Day Brit Rock Remix, DNA Pedal 2 LA Mix, Fake Love Rocking Vibe Mix). The choreography caused SUCH glee among fans who watched Hwarang, the drama that Tae acted in; there's a scene where the main cast perform a dance and part of it looks EXACTLY like the beginning of Fake Love (kzbin.info/www/bejne/qau6d554hJmfeZo). "I grew a flower that can't be bloomed in a dream that can't come true." SMERALDO!!! (But seriously, it is SUCH a line, and it's still so poetic even translated to English!) The windows exploding? The floor falling? Jimin standing between two waterfalls? The fire in Yoongi's room? Hobi's bed of Snickers? Those were REAL (okay, Yoongi's fire was shot separately from him and digitally enhanced, but close enough)! You have absolutely got to watch the making-of video for this one. "I'm so sick of this/I'm so sorry but it's Fake Love, Fake Love, Fake Love" You want to keep a close eye of the choreography at these lyrics; at the first "Fake Love" they cover their eyes, then their ears, then their mouths to represent the three wise monkeys. It reads Save Me, but if you flip it upside down it reads I'm Fine. It was originally created for a depression and suicide awareness campaign by an organization called Samaritans of Singapore, about how it's hard to see but still there. Save Me (which was part of the Tiny Desk Concert) and its sister song I'm Fine are that entire concept flipped around and personified in the most hopeful and positive of ways. Just FYI, "Film Out" doesn't have anything to do with the storyline. The song is an OST for a movie that has some similarities to the BU, which is why there are some similarities between the two videos. "Film Out" is the OST for a film called "Signal". There's also a Korean series and a later Japanese series called Signal that the movie is based on. It's about a police profiler and a detective talking across time with a specific hand-held radio. They aren't that far apart in time, so there are people who are in both time lines. I've seen the entire Korean series, so the scenes in the "Film Out" MV are clearly about "Signal" to me. It's a really good series and it's on Netflix, if you're curious. Talking across time and trying to "fix" things doesn't always have the best consequences, either. I'd explain which characters the guys are playing in the "Film Out" video but this post would be way too long then.

DONT WORRY i'm not spoiling anything in this comment haha. So, the phones in taes part are linked to the Wings short film videos. I dont know if you remember, but in Taes short film (Stigma) he is arrested and he has a chance to call someone so he calls namjoon, but namjoon doesnt pick up the phone and in his Reflection short film video is written "liar" cause he should have helped tae by answering the phone call. In The Notes we can see that tae and namjoon are like best friends cause only namjoon sees the marks and bruises on taes body, he knows taes father is a monster who is always harming tae and his sister and tae spends time with namjoon the most. Also in the Highlight Reel, tae writes a message for namjoon in the walls that says "I'm fine" that upside down means "save me", its an ambigram so yeah idk if you understood taes part thats why i wanted to clarify that haha but girl you are soo smart, you caught up things very fast 👏🏻👏🏻 i'm loving your reactions 🥰

Okay I told you that after Fake Love I would explain the Highlight Reel more to you. In the teaser, you saw them all turn in something (except Jin, Tae and JK) and them get something in return except Jin and Tae. With Jin, we don't know what he could turn in and we aren't positive it would have lead to the flower or the red book or what? He's our mysterious character. We could guess that Tae turns in the bottle he used to kill his father but what would he get back in return? We don't know the end of his story yet. With JK we don't know what he could turn in, maybe a toy car or something but his key I think leads to him deciding where he wants to be: dead and at peace or maybe still in an unhappy life but knowing that his friends are still there. The Highlight Reel I think is more about the Magic Shop and psychology. This series led into Persona which talked even more about these states as well. This is just a theory, we haven't been told more about these women. I believe that the women are manifestations of their other halves. By other halves I mean their pairing to the other boy AND the half they need to grow up. Because one of the main themes about this story in the end is growing up and accepting everything that goes with that. That's why some guides add Spring Day to it because that video is ultimately about leaving youth behind and growing up. Suga and eventually the guys sitting on top of all the clothes they would have gone thru from childhood to now adulthood. JK looking lost until he found his friends and then them all walking to the train where he sees his new self that was circling over and over because he hadn't accepted growing up yet. But once they all accepted leaving childhood behind they were together on the train and it stopped looping endlessly cause they decided to move on. I think from the Highlight reel Jin and Jimin are the unusual ones. JK's girl stops him from being reckless and Suga's girl helps him remain present and on a path of hope. Namjoon can't help the person he most wants and he has to realize that he can't be her savior while Tae puts the burden and solution to his issues all on his shoulders. Hobi needs to care for someone and be cared for too. With Jin, what did his girl show him? With or without her, events happened to the guys. Things Jin has been trying to work on. I think her real purpose was to get that book to JIn because why does he still have it at the end of the video? With Jimin, he doesn't have a girl of his own because I believe the girls are part of their mental state. I don't believe Jimin is ready to deal with his issues because he is stuck. From the notes and the Lie short film we see that arboretum is important. I believe that something happened there that left Jimin stuck in this mental state. We know it contributes to his hospital stay. I think this is the most I can say at the point you're at. You have at least one more MV to see, the last set of The Notes and the webtoon. You're doing great so far, can't wait till you finish.

All right! I don't want to spoil anything but if you mirror Fake Love, in some parts you'll see black swan. Yes!!! Black Swan is the answer to the question "Fake Love". Here they are being controlled by persona. And in black swan they return back to accept the shadow ( You can see in Hobi's verse in Black Swan.) In which they found themselves. After being consumed by "persona" then comes Boy with Luv. Its difficult to explain but Fake Love, Interlude: Shadow and Black Swan are connected where they went through Boy with Luv.
