I probably read a billion Roy Thomas stories back when I wasn't looking at the credits. I started noticing his name on the Justice Society stories when I was in High School and College. One of my favorites!

Roy Thomas, is, honestly, in my opinion, the greatest of all Conan writers. Robert E. Howard gave the character life, but Roy Thomas added something to him, a certain humanity and reluctant nobility that really made me fall in love with the character.

I’m reading the Conan Marvel Years first 3 Omnibus and it has a lot of articles and news by Roy as he was getting Conan together as a series. He wrote over 200 issues of Conan not counting Savage Sword, etc. Amazing. .

Wonderful interview! I was never a big Conan fan, but the background is interesting. I quite liked Roy's work on Thor... bringing in Ragnarok -- they should use these classic story arcs for the films... and give Mr. Thomas some credit and $$$'s

Roy really exposed many new generations to many of forgotten heroes. Like John Carter of Mars & Hugo Danner/Gladiator. If not for Roy I would had never heard of Philip Wylie's Gladiator (1930). Which was actually written by him in 1926.

I wrote an adaptation for Malibu...but it was never published. :\

Roy adapted Gladiator in the black and white mag Marvel Premier with the story titled "Man-God". To this day I still cant understand why someone hasn't purchased the rights to Gladiator for the big screen. Wylie's novel was a bit dry as far as his writing style but the premise is groundbreaking. Superman before Superman. If this were adapted for the big screen with a decent writer; it would be huge.

Stan, Jack, and Steve created the world of Marvel... Roy turned it into a UNIVERSE.

Great writer. I really appreciate his work to fix inconsistencies. But I did grow up reading his silver/bronze age work, so I'm biased.

I loved Houseroy's stuff on Conan - nobody's lived up to it.
