I was born in 71, so I was a kid in that decade, but a teen in the 80's and I loved it being that age, I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much being older. Being 52 now, it is hands down my favorite decade, and while I despised school, I loved everything else(movies, malls, fashion, music, arcades, etc.). It was indeed an amazing time.

10:20 YES. It's Balki from Perfect Strangers. Bronson Pinchot. Most reactors don't know or mention that. Fun Fact: It was this role that got the show green lit and originally Louie Anderson was suppose to be in that role as 'Cousin Louie'. They saw his performance in Beverly Hills Cop and felt he could bring more life to the 'cousin' character.

John Aston (Sgt Taggart) co-stars in "Midnight Run" with Robert DeNiro & Charles Grodin; it's about 2 bounty hunters (Ashton & DeNiro) tracking down a mob accountant (Grodin) who is also being tracked by the FBI (let by Yaphett Kotto, who was in Alien) and the Mafia. Another great 80s action/comedy movie with a feel similar to BH Cop (they were both directed by Martin Brest). And yes that is Jonathan Banks (Mike Ehrmintrout). Lisa Eilbacher (Jenny) co-starred with Charles Bronson (as his daughter) in the very graphic 1983 crime thriller "10 to Midnight".

Things were site unseen and unheard in the 80's. Racism still alive, sexism alive, prejudice very much alive. Cameras had yet to be installed on cell phones. In fact there was no internet, no wifi, computers were a tool on a desk, and the only practical cell phones were installed in automobiles, although you could get a handheld cell phone, but they were very big, and they definitely stood out.

"It might hold up..." New viewers often like this, but they won't grasp what it was like when this came out in the pop atmosphere of not just "the eighties" but specifically 1984. Everyone knew Eddie Murphy from "Saturday Night Live," his stand-up, and the movies he'd done. The plot and soundtrack were also a compliment of sorts to the new hip show "Miami Vice." You said you would have liked to have been born in 1955 to experience the 1980s but it was probably best for kids.

Love BHC. Saw it at Grauman's Chinese Theatre when I was 17. What an experience. The place was packed. Everybody was LOLing, cheering. But 48 Hrs. Is my all-time favorite. Funny but way more gritty. It’s was Eddie’s first movie (2 years before BHC). 48Hrs made such a buzz because it was so different. It was considered for best picture nomination but didn’t make the cut because the Academy Awards people didn’t like the swearing. LOTS of swearing. lol Such a great movie. In 2 years, Eddie made 48Hrs (1982), Delirious (his legendary HBO standup special in 1983), then BHC (1984). His career EXPLORED after that.

For the Trifecta, Cox also gave us two iconic villains on the Corporate side of things. 1) Mars Dictator Milos Cohagen in Total Recall. 2) Detroit Industrialist Richard "Dick" Jones...Robocop. The old style police lights didn't use LED's. They used regular light bulbs then a concave reflective dish sat at a 45 degree angle and revolved around the light. If you stood in one spot, the light flashed, but if you watch the walls around the car, the light sweeps around in a circle like a tiny,, very fast lighthouse. The lights had to be tall to hold the reflector.

The fact u recognized Mike, and Balki, Fast Times, and a wayons brother tells me ur a movie and tv nerd! I used to have a large gang of folks I hung out with, at an ice house on weekends. This one dude, every time he saw me, would revert to drunk Eddie in the bar and go, " Phil, Phil..... it's me!....". Did u see Nick Cage in Fast Times,, or recognize who the football star was?😅😅

Fun fact from this movie that I love: at 17:29 Eddie Murphy is adlibbing the super cop story & the actor playing Taggart can not keep from laughing and has to put his head down.

Good reaction. But just a friendly FYI per a remark you made around the 11:24 minute mark about one of the bad guys trying to act like 'Hannibal Lecter'...lol. Actually, this movie (Beverly Hills Cop) was released in 1984, 7 years before 'The Silence of The Lambs' (1991). So, there was no 'Hannibal Lecter' as of yet to "act like"...lol Also, when Axel Foley was thrown through the building window and arrested by the BH Cops, the reason he didn't announce that he too is a cop, were because (1) His boss in Detroit ordered him NOT to get involved in the case....so, he knew that if he informed them that he is a police officer, they would have contacted his boss, and thus landed him in serious trouble in Detroit and in LA. And (2) As a police officer in Detroit, Michigan, he has no jurisdiction in Los Angeles, California. And the reason the BH cops were ordered to keep an eye on him, was to make certain that he did not engage in any police activities in LA, since he had no jurisdiction whatsoever, and there was already reasonable suspicions that he was illegally conducting police investigations without the knowledge, consent, approval, or legal authority to do so. Remember, he is not an FBI Agent (the FBI has 'police authority' nationwide). He is a local Detroit police officer. He has no police authority outside of Detroit. And his boss in Detroit basically told the lieutenant in Beverly Hills, to keep an eye on his employee (Axel Foley) to make sure he didn't do anything stupid like investigating a case outside his jurisdiction.

Just to be fair, Billy just saw Victor and his men going into his own warehouse then men and Victor came out with Jenny, who is one of his own employees. She was not screaming or yelling for help so, I do not think Billy would have had probably cause.

Serge is played by Bronson Pinchot. Jenny is played by Lisa Elibacher. She was also in An Officer and a Gentleman.

Axel Foley's theme is among the top detective theme songs. It rates right up with The Pink Panther theme and Peter Gunn Theme.

The cops were after him to make sure he did not investigate the murder of his friend. The commissioner told him that if they informed him that he WAS working to solve the crime he would be brought up on THOSE charges from Detroit and be fired.

A room at the Beverly Palms Hotel in 1984 at $235 would be inflation adjusted in 2024 to be $720 per night. $235 in 1984 was a ridiculous rate. The Federal and California Minimum wage at the time was $3.35. Also don't look up the "Beverly Palms Hotel" the actual filming location was at The Millenium Biltmore Los Angeles, who's actual rates today vary between $125 and $304, a far cry from what Axel Foley would've paid adjusted for inflation at $720.

2:01 oh wow i remember having that ringtone on that phone. 8:38 i was an 80s kid. 9:30 that’s about $710 a night in 2024. 11:15 they came up on him from behind so he never saw or heard them. 15:07 this is Damon’s first film credit. 19:51 it’s not so much they’re corrupt but Maitland is such a well known rich person in Beverly Hills that they’re afraid of being sued or losing their jobs that they want to keep Foley from bugging him. 21:07 Back when filming this Eddie Murphy was so against drugs of any kind and even turned down coffee when he was tired from extra filming. He finally gave in when shooting the police station scene was taking a long time and he was having trouble keeping his eyes open and had a sip of coffee. The “supercops” scene was born from that sip of coffee. Judge Reinhold “Rosewood” was pinching his thigh trying to keep himself from laughing and John Ashton “Taggert” hand his hand on his face to keep from ruining the scene by laughing at it. 25:01 the paper rolled up in the chiefs hand is the script. He got the new lines just before recording the scene. 37:11 I was technically too young when this came out on VHS but my older brother bought it and whenever my parents left the house for some time we would put it on and watch it.

Coby! I can't believe you knew Bronson Pinchot! I used to watch "Perfect Strangers" as a kid. So were you actually alluding to the truth when you said something about being born in 1955? You look terrific for 68! :)

None of the cops were bent. What Axel was doing was illegal, interfering in a police investigation & obstruction of justice. He was not assigned to the case so he has no business or authority to investigate, follow, or question anyone. They threw him out the window so they could call the cops on him and have him charged with disturbing the peace. The cops who arrested him had no idea he was a cop & no way of knowing that Maitland's people were lying to them. The reason the higher ups kept trying to reign Axel in is he was being disruptive and illegally harassing a wealthy business man. Maitland could've sued the LAPD for not upholding the law by their allowing Foley to harass him. The police had no evidence of wrong doing on Maitland's part, and what Axel was doing was actually illegal. If this had happened in real life, Victor would've most likely gotten away with it and Axel would either be fired, in prison, or both. That being said, it's still a great movie, but while it's not a sci-fi or superhero movie, it's also not completely realistic either. That's what was great about 80s-90s action popcorn movies. You didn't have to do a ton of thinking, it was essentially ”give your brain the night off” entertainment. And yes, the single light police cars were a thing, especially at the start. They didn't have light bars on the first police cars, it was a single, large light. And when you see older cop movies with unmarked police cars, they had a similar light on a coiled cord they kept inside the car that they would transfer to the roof and activate when starting a pursuit. That last time I saw one of those was the Friends episode when Phoebe's cop boyfriend takes Joey, Ross, & Chandler on a ride along.
