@@ABigFingShark I agree, it felt like a movie that could've been made prior to 2000 and it had the same vibe as the other 3 movies. I have a question that's separate from this movie. I've been a little reluctant to watch Coming 2 America because of the bad reviews, is that any good? Have you seen it?

@@rogersjgregory I gave it a solid 7 as well. Granted, I may not have liked it as much if it wasn't a Beverly Hills Cop movie, but I think it works because it seems like a natural sequel to those movies with a similar vibe. The hilarious thing about Joseph Gordon Levit being "the young cop" is that he's 43 years old today!!! He's almost the age of Captain Bogomil in the 1984 movie, he was the veteran cop at age 46. Tagart was 36 in the 1984 movie and Rosewood was like late 20s/early 30s. Eddie was the real young young guy at 22, 23. But everyone is so old now in their 60s and 70s, that a 43 year old is the "young guy cop".

@@luisrizo8813 Not only is Landis responsible for that awful tragedy on The Twilight Zone movie where two kids and actor Vic Morrow were killed, but he was also a poor choice to direct a BHC movie. To me, the whole movie lacks the comedy-action balance of the first two and feels like a kiddie cartoon with f-bombs thrown in.

When I watched the movie it seemed it was more her than him. That she didn't like his dedication to being a cop and resented him for it and so he just let her live her own life. Once he hears she is in trouble he immediately goes to help. The movie portrays her and her mother as kind of unreasonable, but let's not forget about the lying he does to get his way, especially in Beverly Hills Cop 2. What he does to those construction workers is fucked up and just so he doesn't have to pay for a hotel. He is certainly bothered that she became a criminal lawyer though, which even though he didn't say he thinks she did it out of spite, I think he does.

And wouldn't Glover's granddaughter, who was born at the end of LW4, be in her mid-20's by now? You make an excellent point about the "strained" relationship with his daughter, especially when the movie goes out of its way in the beginning to show that Axel clearly cares about the people in his community. Two other little things that bothered me was that his old car in Detroit looked better than it did in any other movie even though it's now a 60 year old car. And that Detroit letter jacket looked like it was picked off of the rack every morning that he shot with it. Minor details, but they hint at a more polished look that felt more like a movie than the realism of the world they were building.

It was smart for them to stick close to the BHC formula after a 30 year hiatus. Those who perk up for this movie want that dopamine shot of nostalgia and more of what they enjoyed about the other films. Axel F does just that. When I was watching, I felt right at home(figuratively), as though BHC never left. This looooong belated sequel just works despite itself. That's remarkable. You can watch all four movies now and not notice any drastic creative shift. Axel is back baby.

That being said, this is a really fun movie. It felt like being home again. It was fast paced, nostalgic while fresh, and made good use of the characters. Joseph Gordan Levit was an excellent addition. Kevin Bacon's character could have been more devious (what straight men can spot a pair of designer shoes and knows they cost $2000?). Despite their ages, the original cast stepped up and did their jobs. I am ready for the next movie!

Great point about Axel and his daughter. The guy who was always loyal and willing to throw his career away for an old criminal friend and cop friend across the country has lost his daughter because he’s too involved in his work. The problem is that it’s like they don’t actually go back and watch the old movies to make sure they’re getting things right. Are they just going off of their memory which isn’t good? Example: Coming 2 America they still had the arranged fiancé hopping and barking when she actually left making an Orangutan’s sound. “Eww Eww Eww”.

The sad thing about Hollywood writing is that every movie like this either has estranged kids, or kids who get in over their heads and need Dad's help. It's almost never just them being well adjusted and having a character arc. Almost as annoying as the kid who seems to know everything and stumbles through the film with invulnerable plot armor. How tough would it have been to follow the first film's premise and have his daughter being like Jenny, who just happened to work for some bad people and stumbled in to trouble, needing Axel's help. But looking forward to checking this out. Eddie was on top of the mountain for 3 or 4 years and then couldn't pick a movie that wasn't a complete disaster. It'll be good to see him in something watchable again.

@@gianthand8130 It did have some okay moments in it, but overall it didn't capture the same griddy feel that the first two movies had. That is true, but this situation is way different. When Hollywood run out of ideas, they remake stuff. Beverly Hills Cop is Eddie Murphy production, and people are asking for another movie from long long loooooong time. If we see Rush Hour 4 with Jackie and Chris or Lethal Weapon 5 with Mel and Danny will be the same... movies for the fans from the 80's and 90's. Running out of ideas was recasting Rush Hour and making it TV SHOW....funny i just realised that Lethal Weapon has also remake a TV SHow recently...yeah so you can see what means running out of ideas
