In 1985 a friend of mine and I recreated this same song with a Roland TR-606, two Sequential Circuits Pro ones, a Korg Poly 6 and a Fostex 8 track 1/4" tape machine. I can relate to your sense of accomplishment. 👍

I have loved this song every since I saw the movie "Beverly Hills Cop" in the theatre, and I had fanticized about recreating the song myself, but my lack of equipment and (my lack of musical talent) were big hurdles. This video, in a way, helped me to complete that teenaged fantasy. I enjoyed your video, Doctor Mix. Thanks!

I just like the simplicity of these videos. No long drawn out explanations or fooling around in software or settings etc just this is how it's done quick and simple.
@brunodosreis
@brunodosreis 5 жыл бұрын
Corpsecrank sure, it’s more entertaining. But is this “explanation” enough for you to learn how to do it yourself?
@Corpsecrank
@Corpsecrank 5 жыл бұрын
@@brunodosreis Yeah I mean that is exactly my point really. You get lots of guys making videos that are supposed to explain it but all they cover is the software. You never get to see the actual process outside of the software on their screen. Maybe this is fine for people who don't understand that end of it but I want to see this aspect of it. The real process of making something.

I love this song. It was played probably waaaaaay too much. But I never got tired of hearing it. I can't think of another song that had as much exposure that I didn't get sick of. On top of that I was a total heavy metal guy and hated most synth music. But still to this day I love hearing this jam. It actually makes me happy when I hear it.

This is awesome and I think it's a very good idea to release a bunch of song tutorials! Not only is it good for your channel, it's good for the synth community as a whole. Learning covers gives people something to practice and focus on, which in turn makes them better and inspires them to create their own songs. And the cycle continues.

Gives you an appreciation for what is involved in creating music using an analogue synthesizer and even in this case, the whole thing is made easier by the features of digital recording and the DAW in use. As I've said before, this song is basically a study in loops but without the help of modern facilities available to us now. Dissecting this tune, I think, is a worthwhile exercise for people wanting to learn how to write songs using samples and loops. It gives you a good basis to start from without the temptation to immediately overdo it. It doesn't have to be complex to be damned good.

Thank you. This is the song I used to learn to play synths way back in 1985. I was specifically enamoured with the bass line, a simple three note bass elaborated to sound more impressive. I probably annoyed the hell out of music shop staff practising in store and never actually buying anything. But aside from the bass, I picked apart every element of the song, like you just did, trying to learn how to play. I didn't do well, 30 years later I'm still a terrible keyboardist, but at least I have the theoretical skills now. This and Depeche Mode was my training. Emulate, imitate, copy, reproduce. I may not be a talented musician,. but maybe I could have been a half decent producer. I probably still know every single individual sound from Black Celebration and how it's supposed to be played.

Maybe you could show some re-creating of gigi d'agostino tunes (in my mind) or something like all the she wants by ace of base. As a basis for this kind of series I would prefer creating all songs on 25 key daw controllers to show how it's done (and re-re-created by others/me in e.g. Apples GarageBand on the fly)

Can you dial in the synth bass on Johnny “Guitar” Watson’s “Real Mutha for Ya?” Probably originally on a minimoog, but on a mini or micro brute would be cool.
