She makes “Ach, ich liebte” - a murderously difficult aria by any standard - sound almost fun to sing. What a talent she was.

Thank you for sharing! In those early days of superstardom Bubbles really did give the audience a heck of a show! Here was the ambitious program included on the KZbin video: "Non disperar" and "Da Tempeste", from Guilio Cesare, Strauss songs: "Ich schwebe", "Amor", "O Luce di quest' anima" from Linda di Chamounix, "Ach Ich Liebte" and "Martern aller Arten" from The Abduction From the Seraglio , "Si ferite...Dal soggiorno" from L'Assedio di Corinto, "Una voce poco fa" from The Barber of Seville, Barbiere, "Tell Me Why" Portuguese Folk Song, Encore: "Depuis le jour" from Louise.

Every time I hear this, I regret that none of the major recording companies thought to pull together the means for a complete “Entführung” with her as Konstanze. The music seems made for her.

Merci, ce sont les meilleures années de l'éblouissante Beverly Sills ! De cette même année date l'enregistrement intégral en live du Siège de Corinthe (un must) dirigé par T. Schippers avec aussi Marilyn Horne au sommet de son art.

Wow she could move her voice faster than any other singer I've ever heard. Whether its Rossini, Mozart or Handel.

As a pianist, I accompanied singers in the studio of a highly respected voice teacher during Sill’s era who referred to her as an “amplified tin whistle.” I’ve never forgotten that phrase because I think it fits her thin, wiry voice perfectly.

Sorry, but her ornaments in the Handel are really over the top. Tacky!

If you know, have studied, understand the da Capo style - the you would understand the expectations that the artist will embellish as they would like. If you don't like the variants she uses, by all means don't sing them yourself. However, they are not tacky - they are completely appropriate. Also, perhaps you should discover the differences between Baroque and Roccoco embellishments and Expectations of both the Composer and the Audience. 😎😎😎

@@rugby8-Philadelphia I have been a vocal coach and pianist for over 40 years. I am well aware of the difference in embellishments used for the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods. I stand by my comment. That being said, there is a lot of beautiful singing on this recital.

"Da tempeste il legno infranto" gets a bis? Lovely Portuguese song always at the end of her concerts. It is the last thing she sang in public when she retired from the stage. "Tell Me Why" is a Portuguese folksong that Estelle Liebling, her only voice teacher, gave her when she was ten. As a tribute to Liebling, Sills ended every recital with this song.
