Thank you for showing Lisbon Portugal. Getting a good idea of what it’s like on ship. Enjoy your documentaries immensely. Authentic.

We thought we had to take the coach into the centre.Little did we know that you can walk there from the ship. Lesson learnt. We were not bothered much, only a lady selling sunglasses who didn't hear NO! I guess as we were older no one tried to sell us anything illegall.
@TravelWithBen1219 ай бұрын
No problem with walking into the centre from this port, Anna. Some ports are very far from the city but Lisbon is convenient! The sellers can be persistent but you need to be firm 😂

I didnt have it bad in portugal. Barcelona on the other hand was bad for it. Another trick i learnt is if you learn the phrases for No etc in the local language e.g. portugese they usually take the hint and dont follow.
@TravelWithBen1219 ай бұрын
Barcelona is very bad for that kind of stuff. Portugal is better than Spain in my opinion.

Back in the 90s, a friend of my aunt paid for her to go on a Mediterranean cruise on the QE2. My aunt wasn't well travelled, she'd never set foot on a plane and had never been further from her south London home than the Isle of Wight or Devon. One of the stops was Lisbon, and I remember her saying that she HATED it because it was "full of beggars". I've since been to Lisbon myself and loved it, so I couldn't figure out why my aunt had such a problem with it! But now that I've watched this, I think I know! She probably thought those people who bothered you when you got off the ship were "beggars", bless her heart. 😊
@TravelWithBen1218 ай бұрын
Bless her 😂 I don’t remember seeing any homeless/beggars in Lisbon but there were definitely a lot of people trying to sell you stuff on the street. Poor aunt 😂

Hi Ben, enjoyed seeing some of the architecture in your walk around Lisbon. It is always interesting to see how unique some of the architecture is in different countries. It is a shame that the pesky people trying to see stuff can be so annoying. Glad you got to experience some of the slides and it would have been great to have the Drop slide footage, but rules are rules. I think that it is so unique that on the ship see through Stairs that they have so many different colored lights. I like the Purple lighting in the hallways to the Studio cabins as well. Looking forward to the upcoming Sea days so hope the Seas are not too rough.

Thanks, Ben! Lisbon is beautiful, much better than Madrid or Barcelona in my opinion. I don’t mind people selling tours and stuff but not one step outside the port! The studios corridor is a party for sure 😂 sea days coming up soon! Thanks for watching 🙏

Also some ports will have tourist numbers just for the police or specific tourist police. Really useful having those numbers on you and they are usually on the daily planner.

The wavy lines on the pavement represent the distance the tsunami travelled when there was the massive earthquake.

I honestly didn't even notice the lines, Valerie! But that's very interesting.

Repositioning cruises are some of the cheapest holidays out there (you need to factor in the flights), Costa Cruises can get crazy cheap, I've seen pricing on some of their T/A's as low as £13 pppn. We're doing a Princess T/A next month (Florida-Southampton) for about £60 pppn & using points to pay for the flight out. If you think about it, £5-10/day for breakfast, £10-15 for lunch and £25-30 for dinner, plus £10 for snacks during the day the travel part of the cruise is basically free.
@TravelWithBen1219 ай бұрын
That’s an amazing deal! How do you search for your cruises? Is there a central hub somewhere or do you look at individual cruise line websites?
@Travel_Day_Dreams9 ай бұрын
@@TravelWithBen121 we tend to look at various sites, there isn't yet (to my knowledge) one consolidated site. Seascanner works best for us, but there may be better alternatives out there. Hopefully it the not too distant future maybe Kayak, Trivago or their like will step in and make it easier to find the best deals. Until then it's just about keeping your eyes open & fingers crossed. Good luck with the channel.

Lisbon is beautiful. And so many Gypsy ladies selling identical tablecloths! Love the mosaic pavement Can’t remember any ship where you did not have to walk through the casino to get somewhere else- maybe it is a revenue producing scheme? Hard to pass through without being tempted by those slot Machines or the coin scooper.
@TravelWithBen1219 ай бұрын
I agree Juanita, Lisbon is great! Definitely a way to get people to play by making them walk through the casino 😂

Hi Ben, do you speak Cantonese and/or Mandarin? I think that you said that you started to speak in Chinese to stop people from trying to sell you stuff and it really impressed someone. I would certainly be impressed and I hear Cantonese almost everyday around where I live, but Mandarin is rare.

What is the ratio of passengers on board is it mainly people from the USA or a mixer I'm planning a relocation cruise on the Norwegian Encor from my home town of Southampton to Miami in December I'm assuming because the cruise starts in the UK there will be a lot of British people, thank you for another great video.
@TravelWithBen1219 ай бұрын
Gary, this cruise was at the end of October so maybe that affected the demographic of people but most of the people on this cruise were Americans. I’d say 90% American, maybe 5% British and 5% other, including quite a few Chinese. Because it was October, there were only about 20 kids on the whole ship and probably 95% of the passengers were over 50 years old. Enjoy your cruise!

I live in Lisbon and people don't try and sell you stuff here any more than any other place. Also Lisbon is not unusual in that if you are obviously a tourist you can get ripped off anywhere. I feel its kind of unfair that you make out Lisbon to be a tourist trap. If you really want to experience extreme bugging to buy, try Egypt for example
