I wonder if you can take it apart, and maybe customize it w tight fittings, that blade has some nice life to it. Pretty beautiful. I mean I know you can't take it apart, maybe you can break it apart and have a custom handle made for it? I bet someone on here can put maybe a beautiful sanded wooden handle on it. I'm not sure. But it's a shame having a nice blade, I mean the blade is everything. Hopefully you can make a project out of it. Idk how much it cost, but maybe it'd be worth it.

I think its actually supposed to be a little tip heavy. Im pretty sure they used those w/ shields in period. Which like the viking era would mean that your sword doesnt need to be as nimble b/c you can use the shield to guard your sword hand while you recover.
@JoeSteel12 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Josh, yes I totally understand the historical representation of it with shield combo and all. I don't mind a heavy sword, it's just the point of balance was "too much" towards the tip. coming from using a katana, I didn't feel in control. but with use I got more used to it, it's more all the fit and finish problems that really troubled me about this piece that diminished rapidly around a really well made blade
@JCOwens-zq6fd2 жыл бұрын
@@JoeSteel1 hmmm...it could be that JKoo didnt give it enough distal taper. How many inches is the P.O.B from the guard? On a sword like that it should usually be around 4.5-5" from the guard but if theres not enough taper then it could just overall be too heavy. I havent had a bunch of repro's from Jkoo but ive handled quite a few antiques.
@JoeSteel12 жыл бұрын
the ladder overall too heavy POB is close to 6" from guard, with a redesign this could be a wonderful repro.
@JCOwens-zq6fd2 жыл бұрын
@@JoeSteel1 thats not too awful far out but it would make it a little cumbersome. You could try adding heavier hilt furniture to back weight it some though it will increase overall weight i wish companies would just distal taper all the swords they sell.

Yeah the Chinese forges don't use good glue. And that scabbard could be a lot better. Give it some taper. And the handle too. But the Chinese forges haven't had to care about the quality of Chinese style weapons until recently. They're getting their. They didn't care too much about the quality of their Japanese swords for years too only until about 6 years ago they really started getting better by buyer force. We buyers started demanding better stuff and knew what to look for. They still don't do distal taper too well but better NG better. Check out siwode on Amazon. I was blown away especially for the price. The T10 green dragon or black wave (other versions offered from same place) is really well done. Distal taper and attention to back line geometry. Most miss that.
@JoeSteel12 жыл бұрын
Yes there are without question Chinese forges that have improved their products greatly because of customer demand for it, Although Huawai has horrific customer service and LONG waits, produce some truely beautiful Nagasa, I've been waiting for my order from them for 11 months now and apparently it should be coming end of this month or early April, there are surprisingly some diamonds in the rough on Amazon market but I wouldn't trust them entirely, Price is always a big factor, you do get what you pay for in general with swords, All great info and comentary my friend, thank you!!!
@notanotherswordreviewchann49012 жыл бұрын
Thanks for responding! And I really appreciate this review because most sword enthusiasts don't know or review Chinese style swords and I was really interested in what jkoo sino offer in ways of Chinese weapons. Was always wondering how well they were put together. Your assessment is correct. They do a good job on the blades but need much attention to construction. And do look at siwode katana on Amazon. For the money, I haven't found better.
@JoeSteel12 жыл бұрын

@shanewright3442 жыл бұрын
JKOO needs to do better when it comes to the fit and finish of their products. Period. Yes, they have good customer service, and they do offer refunds and discounts, and they also accept returns. However, I don't think sword buyers should have to deal with that, and I think JKOO would save themselves a lot of unnecessary hassle if they just stepped up their game a little bit. Don't get me wrong: I like JKOO as a company, but I know they can do better.
@JoeSteel12 жыл бұрын
You just summed it all up nicely, if I was the bladesmith producer of great blades for them, and stood by seeing some epic fails on the final builds, I would be pissed, the unfortunate thing although, in order to step up their game, their prices gotta go up, or just deal with all the refunds and do overs, don't get wrong I do love the great potential of their products, having some of my fav. swords from them
@shanewright3442 жыл бұрын
@@JoeSteel1 You're right. If you compare prices with JKOO and Swords of Northshire, you'll find that Bryce over at the shire is going to charge a little bit more, but the fit and finish is going to be a bit better. If you want to step it up, and pay $1200+ for a decent blade, you'll have to look at HuaWei, or, Z-SEY. Basically, you get what you pay for. However, when a sword becomes dangerous to use after a few cuts because the fittings are falling apart, or, it doesn't fit in the scabbard properly, or, if it comes to you with a dull edge and you ordered the blade sharp... I mean all of those little things add up, and for some people, $600+ for a custom blade isn't cheap.
@shanewright3442 жыл бұрын
@@JoeSteel1 And, also yes, if I was someone working at that forge, and if I saw a blade that went out to a customer fail catastrophically, or, if the quality wasn't quite there, I would be pissed too. That being said, I have no idea what it's like to work there. It might be a fast paced, high stress environment where the goal is to crank out swords every other month as fast as possible. I honestly don't know.

@@JoeSteel1 i agree and understand.. craftsmen make swords.. other forms of labour meet quotas.. Mate, I only have one voice, and can't do much, but I will use it to ask people to check the providence of the product.. how is it manufactured? What labour force was used? @BruceWSims4 ай бұрын
While I am always very sorry to hear that a well-made blade is poorly furnished, I have to support the reported short-comings as something I have found across the range of asian sword-making. IMVVHO I believe the desire to turn-out a large number of blades has caused the sword smiths to make two major mistakes. One mistake is to use un-seasoned wood for the sheath that shinks as it cures. The result is exactly the noisy ornamentation as seen here. The second is the use of lacquer to set poorly fitted guards and pommels. Actual use such as form work or validation cutting causes the lacquer to degrade resulting the noise heard in the video. My own personal long sword was fitted properly as was an antique Korean sword. However, I have come to find that it is incumbant on the new own to prepare to have the sheath, guard and pommel all dealth with soon after pressing the sword into service. Of course, this assumes that the blade itself is worthy of this sort of attention, and I make no assumptions there. Very nice video.

Your share and experience is very much appreciated, I still have the sword and make the best from it as again the blade is fantastic and cuts wonderfully, sometimes you can't have it all but we have the right to demand it, interesting factors you included
