@@AlfredBellows Sargent changed the way the original Darrin reacted to Endora… he was much more sarcastic than YorK’s Darrin was, and just didn’t bring the same comedic talent to the part. Agnes Moorehead was NOT talking about Dick York, but 1960s actors she felt were undisciplined. She liked and respected York a great deal. Here's what Moorehead ACTUALLY said about York: "If you ask me, the most demanding role is that of Darrin, Samantha's mortal husband. This part demands acting, not comedy antics and cute mannerisms. Sustaining this character is darned hard work. It is difficult to play one who reacts naturally to unnatural elements surrounding him. It is the actor at work here, not the comedian. Dick York does a masterful piece of acting. He makes the show work. Few people see this." In that printed interview, it's actually Montgomery she has tart words for: "I've never seen her act. This role she does in the show could hardly be classified as acting, now could it? Well... it couldn't! Being cute and making childish little faces requires very little discipline or creative energy. However, I have heard that Elizabeth has definite potential." (Which comes across as rather mean).

I don’t think things were thst bad.. this is a sensationalized account. I’ve heard interviews that said the opposite. However the show was art.. like many tv shows were then. They were wonderful pieces of talent and as a result they will endure. Nothing today compares to these classic tv productions.💕

Simply hearing Agnes passionately explain how some actors fail to acknowledge the dedication and work ethic required in the entertainment industry is enlightening. Having watched numerous movies featuring Agnes alongside Greer Garson, her captivating way of speaking is reminiscent of the legendary Bette Davis. She echoes Davis's fervor in addressing those who don't take the industry seriously or view it merely as a paycheck. Even today, only a few are willing to fully immerse themselves in their roles or the craft of film, television, or theater.

At 10:32 The presenter claims that Dick York was fired for substance abuse, and doesn’t mention the fact that he was addicted to painkillers because he had injured his back making a movie a few years back and had struggled through the years with his pain and need for pain medications and finally could not perform. Also, Agnes Moorehead was closest to Dick York and cared for him a great deal. He might have been late and missing lines because of his suffering with pain. Lots of sympathy missing in the commentator’s oversimplified statement. Very unsympathetic. 👎 Otherwise, excellent footage I have never seen before and I truly appreciate growing up as a boy with a crush on Elizabeth Montgomery, and Barbara Eden. Thank you for posting!

The was ridiculous. Dick York wrote an autobiography before he died. He did resign from the show. Froug’s comments were nonsense. York’s back was not injured in a “jeep accident”, He was definitely not in love with Montgomery. He was happily married to his wife for 40 years when he died. They had 5 children together.

I think anyone who is a true professional expects others they work with to be also. Agnes Moorehead wasn't a Diva, she was a professional. I heard that she liked Dick York, so not sure if she was referring to him, and I also understand that Dick York was in a lot of pain due to an accident on set from another show. He was taking medication for the pain, which is far from being drug abusive.

You're not telling us anything new here. Agnes Moorehead is NOT angry, bitter or caustic in her on set interview. She is talking about being PROFESSIONAL in show business, and she expects that from her fellow actors. Neither is Liz Montgomery being negative towards BEWITCHED in the 1967 interview or in the later 1992 interview with John Tesh. If she wished to put "BEWITCHED" behind her, it makes sense both personally and professionally. Her divorce from Bill Asher was undoubtedly very painful, and she wished to move on to other creative challenges and endeavors. If she rarely spoke of BEWITCHED, she never spoke of it negatively-- AND she spoke about it at length with author Herbie J. Pilato for his book BEWITCHED FOREVER. Whatever difficulties there were on/off set were handled PROFESSIONALLY. What is angry, bitter, caustic, and negative is the tone of this video. You are intent upon leaving "BEWITCHED" in the most NEGATIVE light possible. You do the series and everyone who worked on it a tremendous disservice here.

I think by today’s standards in a very liberal society where people Are encouraged to be themself and express themself and not hide or be Closeted etc we always side with Endora. It’s very politically incorrect for Darrin to stop Samantha being who she is but at the time, the average American wasn’t comfortable with their wives being anything but submissive. Darrin represented the average American male of the early 1960s. Despite that, as a kid I used to side with Endora as well so I was way ahead of the times and the pack. I always found Darrin to be excessive in his criticisms and just a bit cruel and domineering. Although I also understand that without that, there would be no storyline as that’s what provided the tension in the show. I think everybody loves Raymond stole the central idea of bewitched for its own mother in law versus daughter in law plotline.

I was glued to the tv set as a little one and now I'm glued to my phone as I relive those memories. I named my first child after her, Samantha Michelle. Michelle came from a beginning episode where she pretended to be a french lady in a bar to see if Darrin would take the bate he didn't. She and Aunt Clara were always my favorites. Also just by chance my Grandmother was named Clara LoL. I really love that show!❤

It's always interesting to see behind the scenes and see what actually happened. I was a little shocked by how direct Agnes was in that interview, but it did seem like she didn't think a lot of other actors but is it really against Dick York, as I always understood they got on well. Even after seeing other interview with Agnes, this one was a surprise. Elizabeth always came across really kind and sweet. I did always wonder about Irene Vernon, as she seemed great as Louise and shock to hear she was sacked. I didn't know about the tension with Sandra Gould and George Tobias, but did hear that Elizabeth didn't get on with Sandra, not sure how true that was. For me regardless of what happened behind the scenes, they all worked together and created an amazing show, I have loved this program for most of my life and I could just sit and watch it at any time.

I agree with Agnes Moorehead. I have never done theater where I got paid, but when the cast comes to rehearsal and they don’t know their lines, it’s very frustrating and rude to those actors who do know their lines. It just wastes everyone’s time.

Also Barry, Dick York was not the only star to be terminated on a popular show, like "Bewitched," there are other shows, like, say, on "Three's Company," the now deceased Suzanne Somers had been terminated, when she wanted to ask for more money, at the end of the 5th season, they replaced her with newcomer Priscilla Barnes. In addition to that show, there was "Matlock," where Kene Holliday had been fired by Andy Griffith, all because of his (Kene's) longtime battle against drug and alcohol abuse, at the end of the 3rd season, and being 3 mos. sober. He had to replace him with the late Clarence Gilyard (who later went on to co-star in "Walker, Texas Ranger,") and both Andy and Clarence had the best chemistry, there, of any 1990s drama, on "Knots Landing," after Joan Van Ark left that show, at the end of the 13th season, she was filming "Spin Doctors," when that series failed to pick up, it was Michael Filerman, who later terminated her, and on "Step By Step," Sasha Mitchell was terminated, at the end of the 5th season, when he was convicted by his ex-wife. Please listen to the Dick York Story, before the interview @ 17:13.
