So the way the metal balls work is a few different ways. You can lock them inwards to lower their center of gravity to the minimum and increase its defense. Locking the balls outwards will increase its stamina greatly as the weight is more outward so it'll be harder to push out. Then there's the balanced most where the balls are loose. It's stamina will be greater with the balls outward but each impact forces the balls closer to the center thus increasing its defense every time it gets hit hard

5:06 i actually not sure about this but i think when the balls are stucked, the bey is in attack mode because there is more gaps between the 4 metal parts. And when the balls are free these gaps are ocupied so the shape becomes more rounded with more weight distribution giving more defense and stamina.
