One of the voters is quoted in a Variety article saying Beyoncé always wins (mind you she lost AOTY 4x), and how every time she drops a project the world is supposed to “quake”. He doesn’t like that. It’s not about music, they are punishing Beyoncé for being excellent. Out of the big 4 categories she has been nominated 18 times I believe? And won once. All her awards are the smaller categories. It’s intentional. And I have loved Harry since One Direction. Renaissance deserved AOTY

I’m not gonna lie. I wanted Beyoncé to win so badly for Renaissance. This album started an entire conversation about Black LGBTQ history in dance music aside from pushing Beyoncé’s creative boundaries. Harry’s album was cute at best, Adele’s album sounded the same, and Lizzo’s wasn’t ready yet. I took it upon myself to listen to all albums nominated for AOTY this year. This should’ve been Beyoncé’s year.

Can we congratulate the fact that she has the most Grammys of any artist in the history of the Grammys? That’s a HUGE historical win. Beyoncé last few albums have spotlighted what’s important to her. Women, blackness, queerness, freedom of self, etc. Harry Styles album was good and speaks to a larger audience. A lot of Beyoncé fans didn’t even enjoy Renaissance as much as her other albums. I don’t think Beyoncé will ever look to make albums that will satisfy the broader audience and that is truly okay. Her work speaks for itself and we know and appreciate it.

Two truths can co exist. Yes, Beyonce deserved better. Yes, all the black artists you listed deserved better as well. The Grammys are not doing Black musicians a favour by giving them awards. It's not just about Beyonce. It's about Black music and Black art in general. Every transition, the way she delivered her vocals on this album…and of course hearing Church Girl….it truly was a beautiful album! For me to sit and get chills from that album when the music now all sounds the same, and mediocrity is celebrated, this was truly a diss! With Lemonade, with self titled and all she did with visuals, choreo…but, at this point over the years my excitement for the Grammys has lessened, naturally I guess, if they don’t have what I’m interested in, then why would I watch?! For me, I believe Beyoncé gets all her validation and appreciation from her fan base! She is loved and appreciated because she still gives her 100% no matter how long she’s been in the industry. I think she’s beyond the Grammys, respectfully. The most awarded artist and they play in her face?! No ma’am. That platform just isn’t what it’s cracked up to be, I don’t take it seriously

I didn't listen to either Beyonce's or Harry's album. Just what was on the radio. I liked all of Harry's songs that were playing. Wasn't really feeling Beyonce's. I'll leave it up to the stans to fight it out over which was more deserving *this year*. But I will say Beyonce has definitely been snubbed more than once and misogynoir definitely plays a major part in that. That cannot be denied. What Harry said about people like them hardly ever winning is quite tone deaf imo. What's also tone deaf is the argument of "Beyonce has won sooo many Grammys why does it matter that she didn't win aoty?!" We all know she deserved it for Lemonade, at the very least. And that argument really gives "we've given that black girl credit what more do y'all want?!"

Wow, you definitely put words to this. I could not put my finger on why it was bothering me so much because who cares about the Grammy's but at its core it definitely feels political and that extends beyond just music. I knew something was up by the way they were hyping up AOTY - With all the fans and articles coming out, I'm like wtf is this the Teen Choice Awards?! And then in the article with people talking about who they voted for and why, I realized it was all bs. Some of them hadn't even heard all of the music! That's like judging a baking competition without trying all the cakes - unreal. I'm good on them after learning that, she (&we) deserve better.

Jean Batiste is black and won album of the year last year, he’s well liked in the industry. Recording Academy members can only vote in their own genre fields. Beyoncé cleans up in genre categories. However in the general field ALL members get to vote and the fact that Beyoncé struggles to pick up awards in the general field, kinda shows what recording academy members outside of her field think about Beyoncé’s music. To be fair, Adele, Harry Styles and Bad Bunny’s albums outsold Beyoncé’s Renaissance by millions. It would have been nice for Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti to win if it wasn’t gonna be Beyoncé.

It good for a white album… but it’s not even better than the best white albums (i know because i play instruments) it doesn’t have good transitions… it’s doesn’t have the same vocal genius and stacking… he doesn’t perform in better live… it’s not even cohesive. Look at Tyler the Creator when he said black people are put in "urban categories". It's not about commercial success it's not about critical success. I heard this but not sure if true. I heard that the reason why Beyonce lost is because of sampling in music. Traditionally the Grammy’s choose Album of the Year on original sound. Although Beyonce is the greatest her music is amazing but she uses lots of samples and they prefer you not do that.
