"bassists are failed guitarist" Yeah, try telling this guy that...
@talesfromthetoiletseat82954 жыл бұрын
I never really understood that statement. If you can do guitar level shit on a bass (in this case a six string) you are better than the guitar player. Especially if you can make it work in the guidelines a bassist “should” do (time keeping, working with the harmony and rhythm all in a way that makes the whole band sound good ect) The entire setup on bass is physically larger larger strings, necks wider gaps and all that. Make the bass a fretless then it is even harder. In that case better! Lol
@nochthitus93974 жыл бұрын
@@talesfromthetoiletseat8295 completely agree, I've never understood it either even though I hear it a lot. Because of the increased scale it's a completely different animal that comes with its own challenges to overcome and because of the audible spectrum it actually plays a massive part in the overall EQ of music, have you listened to songs that have had the bass frequencies removed or have been recorded without bass altogether? They sound terrible! Really Bright and harsh... My thought is that It's probably just something insecure guitarists like to say to feel better about themselves
@talesfromthetoiletseat82954 жыл бұрын
Nochthitus that would’ve my guess about insecurity lol The lack of bass makes stuff sounds so weak and thin. To me if the bass in this type of music was roots fifths in eights only it would sound weird and sound like the bassist to not able to keep up even if he was in time. To me at least. though sometimes that might be needed
@lashedandscorned4 жыл бұрын
i just see the guitarist and bassist as two different band members who want to create good music and get better at their respective instruments, just like the drummer but holy fuck, picking with fingers on bass seems like something only a masochist would do lmfao

@demisaurus216510 жыл бұрын
I think it only looks strange because he's using his thumb to constantly silence the other strings so it doesn't get all mucky... plus he uses 3 fingers to hit the strings (sometimes that pinky even gets in there)
@demisaurus216510 жыл бұрын
honestly, the more I watch it, the more "by the books" his thumb placement looks to me. Something I was always taught to do but I'm not as gentle with my instrument as this guy lol... I like to beat on the strings
@MattPictures1310 жыл бұрын
I have this same kind of style. The way I explain it is that I'm using my thumb to silence strings so that I don't accidentally play an open note I don't want to. It's probably a little unconventional and a lot harder on myself than I need it to be, but especially for stuff like this where precision is key, it makes my assurance a little higher. It's probably not the greatest habit I've created for myself, but honestly I think this style is a little more about comfort and assurance than anything. I personally love playing like this and to see a true professional play like it is EXTREMELY reassuring. cheers!

Any time I forget why I'm learning bass I watch this. This piece made me move over from guitar to bass... Way too good.

It has a voice of it own. I love so much the fretless bass sound.

I agree. I own the re-issue of Human and it is some of the best bass work I have ever heard, paving the way for bands like this. He was also among the first to bring real taste bass wise to death metal if you ask me, along with Alex Webster of CC.

This guy is awesome. Makes Bass actually fun because he's not playing the same riffs over and over. Keep rocking!

Three finger mayhem! Fucking great playing dude. I can remember when I heard DiGiorgio back in the 90's it blew my freaking mind!! I love watching a player with this skill.

I have never seen a perfect bass before. A 6 stringed fretless bass is probably the best gift anyone can have

This is the only song I know with a shredding bass solo that sounds clean. I'm so glad I found this song!

You can hit semi-tones easier and create more emotion using horizontal vibratos, slides, the "mwah" effect. The tone and feel of fretless necks gives you this awesome sense of musical freedom. They're really fun to play. Too bad my city's music shops only carry fender p's and j's and a few ltd's or else I would have picked up a fretless 5 when I had enough cash.
