Dr. Adam Hjorthén presents "Beyond Family: Swedish-American Genealogy, Business, and Cultural Diplomacy in the Twentieth Century." This talk was part of the Swenson Center's 40th Anniversary Symposium "The Migration and Beyond: New Perspectives on Swedish-American Relations." Hjorthén's research focuses on cultural memory-including the popular movement of genealogy-and Swedish-American relations in the 20th and 21st centuries. He is Senior Lecturer in American Studies at the Swedish Institute for North American Studies (SINAS) at Uppsala University. He published "Cross-Border Commemorations: Celebrating Swedish Settlement in America" with University of Massachusetts Press in 2018 and "Swedish-American Borderlands: New Histories of Transatlantic Relations," University of Minnesota Press, 2021 with Swenson Center Director Dag Blanck.
