This being an Ubisoft game, I guess if this is your first Ubisoft game, then you need an Ubisoft account just to play the game, even if you just bought the game. Considering that’s how it was with my experience with Fenyx Immortal Rising, I could try the demo without an Ubisoft account, but when I got the full game, I was unable to play all because they required me to make an Ubisoft account. That’s probably the same here as well, despite what was said about the account. Seriously, what happened to being able to just play the game you already bought, why did Ubisoft make an account with them mandatory just to play a game made by them?

Beyond good & evil was one of the few third party games of its generation that was up there in quality with most first party games or exclusives that tried to get the most out of the hardware it was on which was definitely different to many of the time that used to cut many things back to make sure it ran on all hardware without taking too many risks. I think if I am correct it didn't sell so well at the time but because it went on to be such a cult classic it has eventually went on to sell well with other releases but seemingly not well enough for the sequel to ever see the light of day.

I'm actually kind of disappointed with the Switch-version... 30fps WITH drops!?!? Gamecube ran this at 60fps! Sure, also with drops and they have made improvement to the engine, but these improvements were made to the enhanced HD version as well, and they ran at a solid 60fps on PS3/X360. Also, the new lighting engine kind of dismisses the fact that the game had a foggy look, the HD version had the very same issue... To me the original foggy look made Hyllis look more humid. In the remaster it looks very video-gamey, without any sort of environmental weather effect. I might be nostalgic and critical, but I honestly think ubisoft could've done a better job with this. With that being said, it's still a "must play" even at 30fps. :) Awesome game. I'm picking it up for the PC/Steam Deck instead.

@@joelparker5388 Um, how bout no! The last thing we should do is encourage the idea that we shouldn't own the games we're buying, or all video games becoming digital-only and physical gaming cease to exist. Not only is physical media extremely important for preservation and in general, but basically owning the product you paid for is one of the most important basic essential rights we all have, and that right should never be taken away from us. It's only going to go that "one way" if we choose to "accept it" or encourage it. But right now consumers fighting/protesting against an all-digital future and demanding physical games to continue being an essential priority, as well as voting with their wallets of course, those are some of the things that help prevent that bleak all-digital future from happening, as well as maintaining our right to own the games we bought, without them being unfairly taken away from us at any point (honestly that should be illegal if it isn't already)

I keep asking people to explain to me why they love it so much and all I ever get is vague stuff like "that's just your opinion" or "everything is subjective," which provide no explanation. I have the Gamecube version and this feels like enough to try it again. Although I'll have to stick to another platform due to the frame rate, ah well.

Might be best to just play the GC version again if you can.

I bought the original game on the first XBox, but never got around to playing it. On my XBox One I got it as a monthly game as a subscriber, and still didn't play it. It was only while looking at new games on my Switch I noticed the Anniversary Edition and purchased it immediately. It's a nice price. Hopefully, this time I might actually get around to playing it!

I'll grab it when it's on sale for $5 in the fall.

This looks interesting, however, as a PC owner I’ll be checking this out on a Steam Sale as the Anniversary Edition is in PC as well. Im actually at the point where I’m not investing as much in the Switch as I’m gearing up for a purchase of a Steam Deck Oled, which will play a lot of 3rd party games the Switch does, but better. The only thing that would change my mind on that is if the Switch 2 is announced by November, before any potential BF sales on the SD.

I never got around to playing this one back in the day, so am excited to see it on the Switch! I'm going to grab it - as you say it's a steal at that price - the only thing is I usually don't download games bigger than 4gb to save space and go for physicals instead, but for this I guess I'll have to make an exception.

Always meant to play this, and lo and behold, here's my chance! Cheers lads.

Honestly for me this would have been a must buy if they'd done it half as well as they have at that price point. What a game. What. A. Game. PS2 gen really was the golden years! I'm so glad they've done it justice as our hopes for a sequel fade year on year...

This game is the perfect example of how a good art direction and simple yet solid gameplay can hold up a game 20 years laters

I didn't even know this was coming! I only played it through again on the Gamecube a couple of years ago. Such a fun game.

I was 17 when this came out and remember I was blown away by the story telling and world it was such a FUN game I pulled a few all nighters, I just couldn't put it down. 👍

I remember when I played the original on Gamecube I ran into a game breaking glitch during the final level that caused me to have to replay the game. KZbin wasn't a thing back then so I could just watch the last 20 minutes, I had to replay the entire game over again just to see the ending. I was happy to do it though because this game is so good!

I wish to find the same feeling in my age playing that game when i was younger.. and the soundtrack from this game is amaizing..

Sounds like they did a really good job with this remaster. The only thing keeping me from grabbing it right now is knowing it's an Ubisoft release and it'll be on sale in no time. What's funny is I actually have the game on the GameCube, but I never actually played it; story of our gaming lives, right? I remember grabbing a copy for super cheap when a local electronics chain here in the states was closing. I didn't have any friends who'd played it, but had heard that the media largely lauded it. I always meant to play it, but yeah, backlog be damned.

I have the HD version on my Series X. Not getting it again but would recommend it for anyone looking for a classic gem and are craving something similar to older Zelda with some stealth action.

Wow! I missed this game when it originally came out and always wanted to try it, I’m gonna have to snatch this up but maybe in a week or two cause I’m getting Luigi’s mansion 2 this week as I also have not played that

For those who were/are huge fans of this game back in the day... Make sure you watch the review before just going out and picking it up. There are prominent frame drops during combat, which should be the time where there is the LEAST amount of frame drops! I don't mind that the game runs at 30fps as long as it's a solid 30fps, but to dip below 30fps during combat is inexcusable for a 20 yr old game... no matter what this ver improves upon. Like every other Switch release nowadays, buy the Steam/PC versions for a vastly better experience.

Beyong good 😂 Is that a typo or an in joke I need to play the game to understand? Great rwview score though. I only played this game once round a family friends house and really enjoyed the little I played. Definitely picking this up for £18 and also looking forward to Tomba in a few weeks time.

This is such a great fit for the Switch. Shame about the game not running in 60fps but I am hopeful that Ubisoft may give us a patch for that down the line. I am going to hold out for a physical for this game(My SD cards been taling a beating), I found out that it is getting a release but with Limited Run games so I will be waiting for a while for that unfortunately. I believe pre orders go live on or around the 6th of July

recently replayed this on my PC with the GoG original version and while I don't think I'll be picking this one up, it certainly looks like a great choice if you don't already have it. Textures, lighting and reflections certainly look a lot better although I like the less detailed look of the original but that's just opinion. If performance gets sorted then this is definitely a steal.

I did not know sooner than 24th of June that this remaster came out at 25th because my son mentioned it. It was not even in the Nintendo news. I bought it yesterday. Pity you need to have an Ubisoft account to be able to play it. If I had known this I probably would have hesitated to buy it.

The new look looks a bit undercooked: The high fidelity lighting on the lowpoly models, PeyJ's eyes 👁🐽👁. Also the soundtrack is a bit "mmmmm", fixing what ain't broke. Look Im excited, just a bit worried. Hopefully the game's a bit more mod friendly.
