@adrianwagner8202Күн бұрын
After reflecting about it for a while, I realized that this might be my favourite pilot ever (at least with the 20 minute format). It’s amazing how this episode manages to combine so many heartfelt moments with an inevitable tragedy soon after that all ties in with the main character’s flaw. And that doesn’t come in form of a demon or any heartpounding, flashy action scenes, just the passage of time and Frieren’s lack of understanding of human lifespans and their emotional connections. The fact that it happens so quickly really gives a good insight in how an elf perceives time and it’s all the more impressive how we as an audience actually manage to care even though we knew Himmel for just a short amount of time (just like Frieren did).
@zexalplays11 сағат бұрын
It does good but it's unfortunate that this 20 minute episode isn't the first episode and is more of part 1 of the first episode thanks to the way it was originally released being cut up into the first 4 episodes
@limini56569 сағат бұрын
@@zexalplays This is definitly the first ep and also intended to be the first episode. The first 4 episode were released together as a promo but are four seperate episodes. There are clear narrative breaks between the episodes and even a bit of a recap on the fourth epiode bc they are four distinct episodes. That mainly also follow the two story per episode formula the shoe establishes.

Even knowing Frieren was beloved by pretty much everyone and I came in with high expectations, the show still blew me away. The animation, voice acting and music are all fantastic, but the writing is what makes the show truly stand out. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: this was the PERFECT show to follow up Jujutsu Kaisen. Don't get me wrong; it hurts, too. But it hurts in a very special and well-done way. Frieren tugs on the heartstrings, whereas JJK viciously rips them out and shoves them down your throat while laughing at your pain.
@jgShadow20 сағат бұрын
I'd say the pain is more subtle and you'll have more time to think about the heartbreak while watching them move forward in the future :D I think the way the flashbacks were placed in between the present scenes are very meaningful and well-paced too. After you finish the series, I highly recommend going back and rewatching this first episode again. Everything hits you much harder and seems more significant so that you can really appreciate how amazing this episode and this show really are. I mean, on its surface, it's a show about interpersonal relationships and the passage of time. That just doesn't sound that exciting or interesting, at least in terms of anime, and yet this is probably my favorite anime of all time (so far). I think I may focus my attention on manga and anime written by women more often from now on. Given how much I've enjoyed this series, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Violet Evergarden, and Apothecary Diaries, I don't think I can really go wrong with this decision.
@Marta-uv4idКүн бұрын
Something that immediately hooked me to the show is, as per the show's name, the fact that the story starts after the Demon King is defeated. Where most stories would reach its climax, this one deals with what happens *after* the end of that adventure. To most people, while they will remember you and appreciate what you've done for them, life simply goes on. And who better to follow in that story than Frieren, who doesn't apperciate the little things in life and who lets life pass her by, until her companions grow old and start to die? It's such a brilliant writing choice right from the start that I knew I'd love this story.

I generally try not to get into telling people how to enjoy things, but I really don't understand how people can stand watching this dubbed in English. I don't like dubbed anime voiceover performances almost as a rule, but I understand some people might actually enjoy that specific type of "stylized" performance (I'm trying to be charitable here). But with this show in particular, the Japanese VAs give such an amazing performance, so far beyond typical anime fare, that hearing the English-language VAs turn in basically the same kind of stuff as always is bad enough, and on top of that, they literally change the characterization of their roles. Japanese Himmel is soft-spoken and gentle; English Himmel is effeminate. Japanese Frieren is detached and matter-of-fact; English Frieren is sassy. Those two differences alone would change the tone of the dialogue even if the scripts weren't drastically different, but the English script also takes some serious liberties with the original writing. I haven't been able to sit through enough of the dub to judge characters beyond Himmel and Frieren, but those two are CENTRAL to the story, and between wild translation choices and VO performances that don't seem to understand the roles, they are simply weaker characters in the English dub. As carefully crafted as the original version was, I'm honestly shocked they let the English version out the door the way it is now.

As someone who isn't very big on Anime, and had only watched a few of the most famous ones. Often very violent ones like Attack on Titan, I was very reluctant to watch Frieren, it sounded cliche and sappy and full of anime tropes I don't like. I have never been so happy to be wrong. I've seen a lot of reactions for this story, and one thing inmediatly evident was the dub removes a lot of the emotion this origininally evokes. Nice reaction though. I'd recommend switching to original if you really care about the experience.

Although I loved this show, I feel like writers fail to grasp and therefore explore what it would really be like to live for so long, in most of the movies, and shows I've watched. Someone that would be impatient (13:00) waiting a few minutes for another person, would experience time the same way we all do. To a moment by moment basis and with the same experiential speed of humans. That would mean two things. 1) That person wouldn't see 10 or 50 years as inconsequential in terms of the way they experience them. 2) Their existence would be unbearable because of its length and repetitiveness. I think this character would make more sense as an otherworldly creature that experiences time differently then we do, not caring or responding to its environment, but I understand that would be boring to watch.

I have a theory the author will do something similar to "The Last Of Us Part 2". I think near the last chapter or in the last chapter we will see a flashback conversation between old Himmel and Frieren for the last time, after the meteor shower, and it will be something impactful, maybe a concrete confession that she would realize only later, a conclusion between them before his death. Idk, just a theory. My guess is he died the night they returned from the meteor shower.

Am i having a deja vu? Because I'm pretty sure you already reacted to this and uploaded it on your channel. If not then i must be confusing you from other couple reaction channel. Anyway, frieren is the only anime in a long time that has gotten me excited each week, eagerly waiting for the next episode. Before this, I had been pretty much burned out on anime for many years because I had watched so many of them - probably over 1,000 (I've been watching anime continuously for almost 20 years). This burnout was especially due to most anime following the same repetitive tropes. Even now, with popular anime like My Hero Academia, Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, Solo Leveling, and Demon Slayer, etc. which many people get hyped about, I can't bring myself to finish them because of how many generic tropes they include. It makes sense, though; why change the formula if it still works and makes money? But for me, I usually can't even get past two or three episodes before I get bored and stop watching. That’s why I’m so happy that Frieren somehow reignited my joy for watching anime.

I used to watch a fair bit of anime but also got tired of a lot of the tropes. I know their are good ones out there but not always easy to find. Frieren was the first anime I've watched in years and it's so good. It even got me to read the manga. Sone of the tropes are still their but well done and the storytelling and characters are so good.

It's very cool you decided to react to Frieren; it's an excellent show. However! Please watch it with subs. The Japanese VA's are top notch, and they actually give their own vibe to the series.

This is an English dub only channel, you're gonna have to get used to that.

They don't know how to read, deal with it.

@yesman8682 Wait, what? Illiterate ones? I have difficulty believing that...

@yesman8682 Actually I tend to prefer dubs much of the time because Anime is a visual medium and reading subtitles is distracting.

@yesman8682 That's not it, and you know it. They literally read the opening narration of this episode.
