Knife Party. I love the track. The lines "I can float here forever, In this room, We can't touch the floor" always hit a chord with me. I love Moreno's vocals. This video is great and seemed to have come at the perfect time of me nostalgically listening to their discography. Great vid as always.

@MatthewJohnHayden
@MatthewJohnHayden 2 жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree more with your "ever-modern" description. As decades slide by Deftones keep releasing albums that feel fresh overall. I thought bits of Diamond Eyes got a bit recycling-ish, but I felt no such vibes on Koi No Yokan, Gore or Ohms, in fact Gore and Ohms really feel to me like they explore wholly new terrains, separate from all the records before and separate even from each other.
@chairsmissing
@chairsmissing 2 жыл бұрын
@@MatthewJohnHayden I gotta be honest, Ohms to me feels like a regression especially when compared to Gore. I really wanted them to build on the groundwork they laid on with Gore, yet they went back-to-basics heavy with Ohms which I found pretty uninteresting. Though I like the album just fine, it's my least favorite Deftones one.

I will never forget getting "White Pony" on its release day. Getting to the record store, seeing the display and holding it in my hand, handing over the cash and quickly driving home! I put the headphones on, cranked it up and laid there for hours just letting it repeat. To this day its still in my top three albums of all time. That album isnt just music its a fucking experience and a masterpiece at that. This band and that album have stood the test of the last 23yrs and they never dissapoint. While I like Limp Bizkit and P-Roach no doubt they wish they could write a album like this that will influence bands for decades to come.

I think Deftones are really smart in the regard that they have kept their band identity and overall sound pretty consistent and their experimentation has been just enough to keep people interested and not turn the fan base off. I thinks that's one of the reasons why they've been able to put out amazing albums for 20+ years and stay relevant.

Deftones will forever be their own category of music. One of the very few bands respected even by those who don't care for their sound. They've always been true to their own style, non-apologetically and it's the reason they have stood the test of time. Change is my favorite song on the album; very strong memories attached to that track.
@Glaamdring
@Glaamdring 4 жыл бұрын
"Digital Bath" is definitely the best track on the album imo. The Deftones were easily my favorite band from like 7th - 9th grade before I got into heavier metal and then eventually into other genres entirely. They were one of the first bands I ever saw live-along with Primus and Metallica (not at the same show, I just can't remember which band I saw first). I did end up meeting Chino at a restaurant around the corner from my apartment in Manhattan. He was a nice guy and introduced me to the guy he was sitting with-Deftones' new bassist as Chi had died a couple years prior.

A couple other bands that influenced the album: Hum and Helmet. Knife Prty’s chord progression is very clearly inspired by Hum’s Little Dipper. Deftones took this chord progression and turned into something more fast paced and more rhythmically intricate. Chino has talked about how much You’d Prefer an Astronaut has influenced Deftones guitar tone. Helmet’s influence is seen in the lyrics to Korea, where the chorus lines “work your pitch” and “carve your niche” were originally in Helmet’s song Tic, off of Betty.

It seems like their label, Maverick, were trying too hard to have influence on many of their bands at the time. Maverick were Muse's American label at that time, and tried to do the same to Muse for their album Origin of Symmetry and in particular the track Plug In Baby, telling them to re-record the track without falsetto and tone down the record as a whole. Maverick did not consider Bellamy's vocals radio-friendly. The band refused and left Maverick; consequently the album was not released in the US until September 2005 instead of 2001 when it saw release everywhere else. The album peaked at number 3 in the UK, with Plug In Baby reaching number 11 in the charts and becoming a fan favorite worldwide.

I still remember how i even discovered Deftones, it was a little over a year ago and i was on my way to the library to go do homework after class, and on the way there i was listening to Slipknot's WANYK album considering it had recently come out. I had just finished the last song on the album when i got on the elevator and the randomizer on spotify threw me My Own Summer. After that day i got so into their music that i cant even go a week without listening to any of their albums. Their music just entangles what the 90s were perfectly and how teenagers were like back then. Im only 21 so i couldnt enjoy the 90s how many other people did. But their music, especially the Around the Fur album just gives me that nostalgic feel like if i was actually a teenager during the 90s. Its hard to explain. But anyways, its safe to say that im extremely excited for their new album. And for my White Pony IPA's to come in the mail 🤝

I'll never forget the first time I saw Deftones in concert. It was Halloween night of 2000 and they were touring for White Pony, and he came out on stage wearing a Jheri curl wig 🤣🤣 At one point between songs, Chino was talking to the crowd and someone yelled "Give me your ring!" He answered, "My ring? Fred Durst gave me this ring". Then he said, "Fuck it", slipped it off his finger and tossed it into the crowd. I've lost count how many times I've seen them since... must be 8 or 9 times, they're my hands-down favorite. Even got to meet and shake Chino's hand once when I ended up standing right behind him in the ticket line for a Team Sleep show. I didn't expect him to be so tall.. I'm 5'11" and he dwarfed me lol
